I don't suppose they have a LAN option or do they? Nah probably not, why would they do that when they can force everyone to use LIVE and have to deal with all their bugs. This comment was edited on Nov 7, 10:15. |

Getting the government more involved to manage usage of the internet is just giving them another reason to install an internet tax to fund their new internet regulating authority. Yup, the free market is in it for the money. Guess what? The government is in it for the money too and they'll screw you over a hell of alot more than any company will. I'm reminded by that each year I pay my income tax.

All games are a waste of time. It's not solely the realm of MMO's. We play games to distract us from real life.
Exactly. As if playing game X for 100 hours is somehow more productive than playing game Y. WTF?

Wait, the subscription people must be lag free, aren't they? Or at least the 'limited' lifetime people..
And we're talking about interaction of players in a party of up to 5? Right? Ooh, massive world. No way I'd want to coop with friends if there's no LAN support and you're forced to play on laggy servers.

That's not at all the same, and is not in any danger of happening any time soon. Gogamer sells normal retail copies of games (albeit the UK versions in most cases). Stores in Thailand and Russia (and many other countries) sell pirated copies of games and legal copies that are specially packaged and priced for that area.
I'm not talking about it actually happening to PC DVD games. I'm comparing steam restricting access to your PC game and the situation I described (which as you said is not going to happen to PC DVD games.. exactly the reason why I'd prefer to get a DVD rather than steam for the said example of the game).
If the option existed, would having the UK copy of the Witcher over steam in the US be illegal and subject to deactivation? It sounds like it would be, as the UK Witcher version is not intended for the NA territory.

Valve isn't the only company to stop people from doing this.
Except steam has the power to turn your purchased software into vapor, where a purchased PC DVD import hasn't been controled to that degree. Valve has alot of leverage with this system and I'm sure this won't the last time they use it.
If I buy an import copy of the Witcher at gogamer, I sure hell wouldn't want to be treated like a pirate. In a steam only world, that can certainly happen.

Wow, I was seeing it going counter clockwise for the longest time, then I brought my hand to my chin and went into "pensive mode" while looking at it.. and it started going clockwise! I can almost change the direction at will now.
