Yup, played TQ and the expansion and enjoyed co-op. It was good for what it was, a Diablo type game. I didn't like the Dungeon Seige series as much and didn't even bother with Hellgate.

a game is $100 so i'm not risking scratching that $100 by putting the cd/dvd in and out due to some failed attempt at what was it.. reviving the pc scene?

How much are 360 games? Must be even more money.

Speaking of DRM and it's supposed requirement to keep PC gaming alive, I saw a post the other day about how someone's 360 DVD drive failed and needed a replacement. Being interested in why this shouldn't be an easy fix to do yourself, I googled it. I couldn't believe the number of webpages devoted to moding your 360 to play backed up games and chips that prevented Live from detecting it.

It's difficult to believe there aren't more people going out and renting 360 games to copy than PC game pirates.

16. Re: Just stop it EA! Feb 27, 2008, 12:32 MMORPGHoD

Bah, you'll probably get banned from their shareholder meetings too. I haven't invested in game companies since GT Interactive, as the stock price doesn't necessarily follow a future game's success. I prefer investing something that's more likely to be profitable for years to come, oil and some gold. I mean come on, Chavez, Iran, and China/India. People need fuel even in a recession. Nice returns with no alternate fuel source in sight. Might be a little expensive to get in now though, wait for a dip.

As for EA, as a PC gamer, they are making a small market even smaller when they buy up these companies, chew them up for assets and spit them out. How many IP rights are in limbo (owned by EA but just collecting dust) now because of them?. Pretty soon you'll either have to stop playing PC games or pirate them if you don't want to pay for AAA PC titles owned by EA.

Or maybe you can do what mooz did with valve: give them your money, bitch at them, and get your steam account banned. I guess not giving them your money is difficult for some.

You ain't kidding about the number of enhancement commercials. Now it's levitra every 5 mins. Holy crap, they must think we're all so incapable of performing that we're willing to take that crap and the 20 side effects that come with it. And with all these women talking about how pill X brings "a more satisfying experience" ... how long before we see demonstrations on TV?

I agree that a real ST MMO game just isn't feasible with todays technology. They should shelve it until they can do the intellectual property justice.

Until they can have a single universe comprised of various galaxies of explorable worlds, interstellar travel of fully functional star ships manned by guilds, the various space battles that would develop, and the unique races that would be added over time.. ah, hell just forget it. They won't get it right.

4. Re: Pakistan Feb 25, 2008, 15:44 MMORPGHoD

Hah, this reminds me of that 'control of the internet' issue..

"A UN-sponsored Internet conference ended with little progress on the issue of US control over the domain name system run by ICANN, a California-based nonprofit over which the US. government retains veto power. By controlling the core systems, the United States indirectly influences the way much of the world uses the Internet. As the conference drew to a close, the Russian representative, Konstantin Novoderejhkin, called on the United Nations secretary-general to create a working group to develop ''practical steps'' for moving Internet governance ''under the control of the international community.'' The United States insists that the existing arrangements ensure the Internet's stability and there's little indication that the US government and ICANN plan to cede their roles over domain names anytime soon. ''I think (there are) a small number of countries that are very agitated and almost don't care what the facts are,''

Count Pakistan as one of those countries that "don't care what the facts are" or how the hell the internet works for that matter.

What about the Magnavox Odyssey!? That was a pretty cool system, probably the first gaming system I ever laid eyes on other than pong. PC gaming didn't really look any good to me until the first version of Wizardry and Ultima.

Damn, 5000 gold costs $370 on my server! No thanks, I'll wait until the next expansion before playing again and get some easy gold on the way to the next level cap.

I don't understand why we can't just accept that a decent graphics engine can scale up when the support is there. The only reason you don't see it on a console is because it's basically hard wired to specific settings. I'd rather people just accept their video card's capabilities and select 'medium' seeings and stop getting angry because they can't select 'high' or 'very high'.

Hmm.. Intel joins the PC Gaming Alliance and now aquires a game development company. I suppose that's one way to make sure there are games for your hardware. Sounds good to me.

Never tried the Quake games co-op addon?
Maybe the HL and HL2 addons for co-op?

Nope. Not if the addon comes out after I already played through it and played the crap out of MP. It should be out of the box and part of the story/campaign IMO.. not an afterthought or a mod. GoW had it I hope GoW 2 has it. Campaigns don't have much replay value IMO, so if I play it I'd prefer it be done in coop. I won't be going back and play GoW by myself.

But I had no technical or control problems at all on the PC.

It wasn't so much the PC controls as it was the "as designed" gameplay control (obviously designed around a console). I didn't like being "stuck" to a cement wall in cover mode, having the enemy climb over the wall in front of me, and then having to "unstick" myself from the wall in order to turn around and attack him because I could not spin around in cover mode. I found myself fighting with the cover mode often because I was used to a more free flowing movement that you come to expect in PC FPS games.

I also didn't like the POV when I had to aim downward to kill off the beast dogs that were attacking at my feet. I often had to zoom out to 3rd person to see and shoot them.

15. Something positive Feb 20, 2008, 16:51 MMORPGHoD

I'd just like to say that I enjoyed one GoW feature that sadly has either never existed or been reliable enough for me to make use of for any decent PC game out there (especially a FPS):

The ability to play through the campaign in cooperative mode.

It was a fun experience, even with the wonky control and console game feel. It's too bad I had to wait for a console port in order to finally find something with decent coop.

There's an enormous amount of gaming happening with PopCap, Big Fish and Reflective.

*googles PopCap, Big Fish and Reflective*

Ugh, he might as well throw Solitaire in there. After all that's one of the most popular PC games ever.

Yup. And I'd rather see those other companies involved instead of just Microsoft. It's too easy for MS to ignore PC gaming in favor of their 360 platform or add artificial requirements to increase Vista sales.
