AMD will not go out of business. Intel will float them a loan to keep them alive as it is cheaper to do so than going through antitrust lawsuits all over again.

It never ceases to amaze me why people continue to work in gaming with how shabbily they're treated. It simply isn't worth it.

Without a doubt! Go with what seems like a "boring" corporate job. You will appreciate the time you get to spend with your family/spouse/SO, you will appreciate the job you'll hold longer than a year and, most of all, you won't deal with immature pricks with narcissistic personality disorder. The people in the trenches are usually cool people but, quite honestly, as one of those people in the trenches, you'll never be recognized, you'll never be praised and by the time you get done working on a game from anywhere between 3 to 5 years, you won't ever want to look at it again.

How is Silent Hunter 5 these days? I avoided that like the plague due to the DRM and the bugs at launch, is it much improved or is it still shit?

The last time I checked, which was a few months ago, more people were still playing IV than V.

As a Robert E. Howard/Conan fan since boyhood, I really wanted to like this game. Messy launch aside, it just never felt like Howard's Hyboria. Sure, all the names where there but it had none of the feeling of his world.

That, more than anything, killed AoC for me. I can't forgive a sterile world when its genesis is based on something so vibrant, lush and full of detail.

But would that work downgrading an OEM version? Seems that you would need to get a downgrade OEM copy from the PC vendor.

I would think so given that you are probably going to be blowing away the whole OS install and using the key provided to you by Microsoft during the reinstall. I've used both my personal system builder "OEM" key and a VLK with the same ISO (during different installs, of course) without a problem.

Um, what? Microsoft lets you download the unprotected Windows 7 DVD images from their site, and have since before it was even released.

They do, indeed. It makes it very easy to convert over to a USB install and supply an answer file to make the process damn near completely automated for one off installs.

This may be apocryphal but I have been told that Mexican labeling allows HFCS to be labeled as "sugar".

If all you barbarians would give up the chemical stew and drink the perfection that is ice tea, we'd have none of these shenanigans.

Unless you preordered this for $60 on what are now broken promises... shut up about "apologists." It's a term that, especially when being used for a free mod, makes any user sound like an idiot.

Holy shit, I agree with Beamer on something!

Shut the fuck up, tool. Wait, I take that back. You don't sound like a tool, you sound like the whole shed. Take your faux outrage and do something meaningful with your life.

Game just had my computer going apeshit... after 20 minutes of playing, I was driving along in a tank and objects/textures were failing to load... then I randomly died, the deployment screen wouldnt come up, I was kicked to a loading screen that stuck at 100%, Windows was unresponsive, and when I was finally forced to reset my computer (something no program has ever made me do in Win7) BIOS failed to pick up my bootdisk until I restarted again. I have a bad feeling about this.

I think it was more that your boot drive had the game going apeshit. I'd backup anything on that drive that I wanted to keep and then do some deep tests on it. Hiren's is good for that sort of thing.

No PC case dev have made a nice solid alum case with the same features, albiet I love my CM Stacker which is a beast... just doesn't look nearly as sexy and runs pretty loud.

Meh, I rackmount my systems now. It's cleaner looking, easier to cable manage and keep clean. Also, I can tell at a glance how all the systems are doing instead of just one at a time. Even my gaming system is in a 4U chassis that has better axial flow than any "enthusiast" case I have ever owned.

I have never been a fan of the Apple aluminum cases because they all look like Bosch dishwashers. I guess that's cool if that's your thing but I like my systems to be more technology, less dishpan hands.

Mission Architect was never designed to bring subs back. It was just one feature of many in an attempt to stem the loss of players over time.

It was presented to us as the feature designed to perk up the sagging numbers. We never heard about anything else.

Lot of mistakes made with MA and how it was implemented, but the underlying idea of letting people who've invented a superhero character also write their own story content to play and sahre was a good idea no matter how you spin it.

I agree it is a good idea. I appreciate your input and clarification on the matter. It certainly lets me know there was a lot more going on that we were told of. Though, I guess in hindsight, I shouldn't be surprised. The communication within NCA was always terrible, let alone between NCA and the various studios.

When I was laid off from Paragon almost two years ago, I thought they had another 6mos, maybe a year left in them. I was wrong apparently. They managed to scrape by for another 22 months.

I'm sad to see my friends and former co-workers set loose today, but I'm confident they'll find greener pastures soon enough.

Admittedly, it's always a bummer when people you know personally get handed a setback that alters their life. You know how stressful it's going to be for them.

Still, I remember hearing about the Mission Architect and saying "Really? That's your plan to bring the sub numbers back up?". It didn't go over well. It reeked of desperation at the time.

NCSoft posted a $6M loss last quarter (rumored to be mainly from AION). It's a shame that CoH had to feel the pain from this.

The writing on the wall for CoH/CoV and Paragon has been apparent for a touch more than three years now. Aion was a bloodbath...and that was largely due to hubris. Oh sure, North American players just love Korean grindfests run with no effective control over RMT, ineffectual safeguards against hacking and more spam in game than actual chat. How could that not make billions?

I think the only thing NC has left that is profitable in the states is Guild Wars. Auto Assault = Crashed and burned. Tabula Rasa = Crashed and burned after blowing through more money than several AAA titles put together use for budgets. Dungeon Runners = crashed and burned (but only because the publisher didn't know what to do with it. The development team was great and it had a wicked sense of humor that was smart). Lineage 2 was is being milked to death. Wildstar is going to crash and burn, too. It's space WoW with nothing about it that truly sets it apart from the already badly overpopulated MMO market.

I'm only now (level 25) starting to see groups working together to use their combo abilities. (Even though I still see people foolishly moving out of my healing fields. FFS, people, the white rings are good! Quit running out of them!)

I guess that has to be hold-over experience from other MMOs. I play in a small guild populated only by people that know each other directly and in the flesh. Because we are so small (there are only 6 of us), we had to learn back in GW1 to play as a unit and have skills that supported and complemented one another.

So far, in GW2, that has really, really paid off for us. Boss fights don't feel like they take very long and no one person in the party feels like they are under any great pressure. One of the things I have noticed is that none of the bosses seem to pick just one attacker and grind on them until they, or the attacker, is dead. They seem to spread the love, or pain, around.

I think it also helps if you play with a group that selects professions based upon how well that profession will round out the group's play dynamics.
