Neither of them hold a candle to the multiplayer fun in MC:LA.

That game was a blast with friends and drifting around corners at high speed felt perfect.

List out the volume numbers of your drives and partitions but only do it off the top of your head. If we're to replicate his experience then you can't use control panel to look it up.

Easily done:

S0,SDA1,P1,Volume 0 - System Reserved
S0,SDA1,P2,Volume 1, - Windows
S1,SDA2,P1,Volume 2, - Apps and Games
S2,SDA3,P1,Volume 3, - Media

I don't think there's anything fundamental here, nor is his "mind blown" by the term. His mind is blown that he's given two seemingly identical options that, even if it's a bug and they are identical, don't have a proper explanation. He knows what a volume is, he just does not know what volume 3 is. I don't think it's even slightly unreasonable to expect a user to know what different volumes are without giving any additional information.

Volume location and identification is one of the most fundamental things about an OS install, any OS, and how a bare drive is addressed. Not knowing that, regardless of options presented, is stupid. Especially from a "reviewer" who throws his bona fides out at the beginning of the article in an attempt to establish credibility.

If you want to pander to, and defend, idiots who want to treat their machines like toasters, that's fine. But don't try to pretend that a lack of knowledge is an acceptable default state. It's akin to saying "But I didn't know my car needed to have the oil changed!" You'd call anyone who said that an idiot and this guy is no different.

Too bad I can't run this on my old SGI O2 with IRIX 6. I really dig the IRIX desktop.

You mean this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:IRIX_desktop.png ?

I'm honestly not trolling but that looks like a weird mashup between OS 9 and GEM.

This was an incredibly stupid article. The author needs to stick with mobile devices if something as fundamental as a "volume" blows his mind.

Saints Row the third feels like a boring cardboard cutout of a city compared.

FTFU. As much as I love the SR series, I have never been able to finish SR3 because it's just so goddamned boring and stiff. 2 was the best so far in the SR franchise. Unfortunately, I don't think we're going to see another SR iteration.

But, you're right, even compared to itself the Third is a cardboard cutout.

The GTA formula is pretty stale these days. The series has been already been surpassed in terms of game mechanics by the likes of Just Cause 2, Saboteur, Prototype, Sleeping Dogs, Arkham City, Assassin's Creed, Red Faction Guerrilla and practically any other open-world game released in the past five years.

Rockstar needs to focus on quality and innovation in GTA5, rather than quantity. Having 1000 different things to do doesn't really mean much if those things are all shallow and forgettable.

Truth. Honestly, the formula was already stale with San Andreas when all the changes they made were a step back from Vice City. GTA4 was an exercise in tedium. I don't know why people find it appealing to follow on-screen instructions and then watch cut-scenes.

I agree with the both of you. I, also, don't get the love for the game. The physics were atrocious, the characters were either forgettable or so annoying that I would have killed them myself were it possible, the story was threadbare and done better before AND since in other titles and the world was just really bland.

In fact, in a lot of ways, I felt like GTA was trying, to some degree, to mimic Saints Row. Which is incredibly meta but still done poorly. The loud, jacked up steroid guy? The incredibly bad Russian mafia characters? That Patty McIrishStereotype guy? Saints Row's charm is that they deliberately caricaturized their entire world and everyone in it. GTAs world was just...clown shoes.

If a body likes it, I'm happy for them. I just don't get "why".

That and what was the other one... Startopia I think?

Yup, developed by Muckyfoot. Their first, last and only game. It works great under Windows XP if you have some fairly old hardware laying around.

Unfortunately, it absolutely will not play under Win 7 or on modern video cards.

Edit: They actually did three games. Urban Chaos, Startopia and Blade II.

No one likes to by flying down the road and then suddenly hit an obstacle and come to a complete stop. That's not fun.

I and about a literal million other racing sim fans vehemently disagree. The Simbin games, in particular, were brutally hard and immensely fun. There are plenty of kiddie arcade racers on consoles already. NFS, Forza, GT, Mario...to name just a handful.

Sliding "all around the track" is boring as Hell. Now, sliding around the corner of an old backwoods country dirt road by kicking the tail out is LOADS of fun...provided you know how to get the vehicle back in a straight line.

I miss playing games like GT Legends online with other people who knew how to actually drive instead of flailing around like a drunken, epileptic, retarded kid.

I don't get the attraction to 8 bit games. I've spent $1000s over the last 20 years trying to upgrade my hardware to get away from 8 bit graphics, so I feel no nostalgia to return. Can someone enlighten me?

Fun is fun regardless of the graphics.

Except if the graphics are a major distraction to an individual, then fun is not "fun regardless of graphics".

Semantics? Maybe but I generally tend to agree. Why pay for 8 bit graphics as a major point when you can download ROMs and emulators for free?

Except that it is in the desktop and enterprise environment. See, the biggest piece of the pie isn't in ULV procs. It's still in mainline procs.

Take, for example, Ford. Is Ford going to be buying more Dell/HP/Lenovo systems and servers or more iPads during their next upgrade cycle? Chances are, Ford isn't going to be spending a couple tens of millions worldwide on iPads.

That's where the anti-trust/monopoly suits come from. Not "Well, we have ARM and Snapdragon processors in mobile phones and tablets so it's totally cool for you to be the only producer of desktop and server processors."

It is in Intel's best interest to keep a competitor alive in every market segment. It's also cheaper than a lawsuit, too.

Heh, I'm of a different opinion.

I find Dishonored...uninspiring. It's not bad but it doesn't excel in any one area that hasn't already been done in a previous game, sometimes better. It's this weird amalgamation of Thief and Bioshock in terms of mechanics, abilities and upgrade options and it just doesn't flow well for me.

On the other hand, Xcom fucking rocks. Now if it would stop crashing when I alt-tab out of it when it is in windowed mode, it would be perfect.

Holy shit AMD get it together!

They're in their downward spiral. They can not make competitive chips where it counts and they don't have a broad enough portfolio to have money coming in while they try and work on their core business.

I'd expect a "loan" from Intel via some cross-license deal to keep them afloat. It's cheaper to do that than fight yet another anti-trust suit simply because you're the only large player left on the field.

If you have made something resembling chile with beans, you have only succeeded in making bean soup.
