Whatever. The only reason why you guys don't like starforce is because you can't pirate it! Don't deny the truth. Just go out and buy the damn game! In my case, you're wrong... so STFU! I own the first two, as well as Ravenshield, FarCry etc, all of which are (unfortunately) UbiSoft games. I've had issues with most of them in one form or another (WTF? I have to use a crack to run Ravenshield?). As for not being to 'pirate it', you still can, so it doesn't stop anything.

Guess I'm the only who doesn't actually care much about any game Valve releases, unless it is Team Fortress 2. Even then, it better make me cream my pants or I simply won't bother. Not when there are games like BattleField2 and Enemy Territory : Quake Wars (Splash Damage making a comerical game! WOOHOO!) on the way... neither of which are attached to an annoyance like Steam.
If Steam actually did everything it is supposed to do, I would still prefer NOT to use it. I like to control when and what I update. I get annoyed when I have to manually shut down Steam after I'm finished with it. I get annoyed when I have to wait for Steam to 'do its thing' just to try a new map, check out a server or look at a model in HLMV! And shutup about offline mode - I still have to wait for Steam to do what ever it does before it gives me that option. Doom3, UT2004, WOW and many games before Steam have enjoyed the ability to LOAD instantly for many years now - why can't Steam?
Thankfully, there is only one fairly decent mod for the Source engine (Plan of Attack), so I doubt I'll keep it installed much longer... This comment was edited on May 23, 20:33. |

For the majority of my games, I use a fantastic, easily available program to update them! A web browser.
While I can appreciate the need for services such as Steam and xStream, can the developers of these services appreciate that there are those of us out here that don't need and don't want to use them? I've never had a problem *manually* downloading and installing updates and additional content.
To quote Yoda "If optional they were, bitching less there would be".

Community effort? |

It says "community's efforts", so as far as I know, Valve didn't release this. Besides, they said "next week" which by Valve adjusted time means sometime next month, maybe...

Discussing Politics on the Internet - what a brilliant idea.... NOT.
Bush is a wanker. So is Mr. Howard. Most politicians are! Get over it and move on.
As for Half-Life2 being banned in Australia, so what - they'll release a 'toned down' version. 5 seconds after that goes gold, a dozen or so hacks will be out to restore it all. Happened with Duke3D - hell, when I bought the game the retailer GAVE me the hack.

... but I don't really give a shite about HL2 or what comes with it - I'm only interested the Source engine and what NEW mods will be made for it by non-Valve people.
You know, NEW mods - not rehashed shit from 4-5 years ago.
My ATI HL2 voucher should get me what I need - the Source engine... perhaps later I'll buy a proper copy (on DVD, but keep your bloody t-shirt) if decent mods get made.

What Acleacius said - runs on any POS machine.
Half-Life2 won't, so it will be interesting to see if CS:S lives up to the success of the original. And yes, I know CS:S is NOT a sequel, just a port, bla bla bla, so hold your tongue.

The thing people need to keep in mind is this is not CounterStrike 2. It is a minor upgrade so people don't need to keep Half Life installed. Noted. Still say woopee-fucking-doo. Keep in mind that most people keep Half-Life and CS installed because it can be run on any POS machine. Half-Life2 and CS:Source cannot.

Of those 52000 people, how many are only playing it coz they're machine is too old to run DesertCombat, UT2004, CoD etc?
Will be interesting to see how many people actually play Half-Life II when it comes out, considering its higher machine specs.

Wow, Valve is cashing in on Counter-Strike again... theres a switch.
Looking forward to playing Half-Life2, but dreading having to use Steam again. Here's hoping someone does find a way around Steam or that Valve comes to there senses and makes Steam *OPTIONAL*.
