Closed Betas wrote on Jan 31, 2013, 00:47: Think about that next time you won't pony up $59.99 for that AAA title... and remember the $100 you spend on this B studio crap $100 towards a game made by a B studio where a decent amount of the funds actually go the developers? I am ok with that.
Better then $59.99 for a semi-completed console'ised POS game where the developer is lucky to get paid and/or stay in business on completion of the game, due to the whim of the publisher.
And aren't you forgetting the $200 of DLC you need to pay for in order to get the actual game you should have got in the first place? |

After Letdown, they'd have to pull some very fancy shit to get me back as a customer. I kinda know how a father might feel when they deny the existance of their own son for reason...

Had high hopes, despite being in the hands of Ubisoft. Then I played the demo. Oh well, it was a nice dream while it lasted.
Wouldn't have bought it anyway, because of StarForce. didn't buy Splinter Cell Chaos Theory for the same reason.
GG Ubi. You won't be getting my money for this either.

In the past, the mention of a new Warren Spector game would get me excited. System Shock2 is still one of my favourite games of all time. However, since the release of Deus Ex Invisible War and Thief3, my opinion of Mr. Spector and my excitment over anything he was involved in greatly diminished. And now he is involved with Steam.
Meh. I'm all for digital content delivery, but in my opinion, Steam goes about it in the wrong way. I swear, if I hear that Oblivion or ET:QW will require Steam, I'm going gonna get medieval on someones asses...

Gonna try it with Quake4 now - see about setting up a Strogg DM mod (play as Berserker, Gladiator etc, from their viewpoint). Wow, didn't take long. Basic single viewpoint done and now I can walk around as a berserker. Animations are whacked and you have no 'berserker' attacks etc, but hey, tis' a start and kind fun ta-boot.
Now to put up a website, form a huge team, hype everything, release levelshots and renders (but no real "in-game" stuff), disappear for a month or so only to return and announce some bullshit reason for no longer working on the mod.
Meh. There is more to a mod then a website full of ideas. I'll keep toying with this for my own reasons (and personal fun), but I doubt you'll ever hear about it again.

Not often, for sure. Still, every now and then you get a talented team doing the business. Personally I'm looking forward to "The Dark Mod" for Doom 3. I expect I'll buy a copy of D3 when that's finished. I hope it does get finished. Big fan of the Thief series... ok, so Thief 1 & 2... 3 is just a bit 'lacking'.
F.E.A.R really got to me because of the single viewpoint approach. It *really* brings you into the game when you are more than a floating weapon and arms. First time I've seen it done well. Its something I've toyed with in Quake3, UT200X, SoF2 and DOOM3. I figured it was a must have for any future game/mod, though it is still rarely used. Gonna try it with Quake4 now - see about setting up a Strogg DM mod (play as Berserker, Gladiator etc, from their viewpoint).
Unfortunately, I don't see F.E.A.R being anything more then a great single player game. Its multiplayer doesn't grab me or anyone else I've shown it too. With any luck a mod will come out to prove me wrong. One can only hope
As for Action Quake4 - aint gonna happen, though there is the idea of using an open sourced engine for "Action" like game (check out the Action forums).

Ok... Been thinking Hamlett was full of it since the original Strike-Force, always announcing big things that never eventuated. I remember how '1337' SF for the Tribes2 engine was going to be. I remember him getting in trouble for using CS replacement models as SF models.
If Hamlett was full of crap then, he'd be overflowing now. Doubt this will ever see the light of day, but for everyone working under him, I hope I'm wrong.

Hexen... there is a game I really enjoyed. What ever happened to that mod team making a 'Hexen-like' mod for Doom3?

Half-Life2 came with my video card. Last time I actually bought a Valve product was when a some of us pooled money for one of the Half-Life packs with CS, BlueShift etc... and we only did that for the CD keys so we could play Natural Selection online (Never even opened the CD sleeves).
Steam doesn't work properly or efficiently. Half-Life2 was nice, but the Source engine aint that hot (multiplayer wise). Counter-Strike was old *years* ago... Source version doesn't fix that. DOD:Source... meh, gimme Call of Duty2 (Yay, no Steam!).
And WTF happened to the mod scene?
/me cries
Stuff it... I'll go gank some Alliance to make myself feel big.

Unless Steam suddenly starts working properly (less of a system whore, less annoying, optional etc), I guess there is another game I won't be bothering with.

Source modding... |

Toyed with Source for a good 7-8 months before deciding it wasn't worth it. One of the main reasons for trying it was the physics, but despite all the updates, they're still a joke in multiplayer. Last I checked, no one even had an in-game player model that didn't use stock animations... I guess everyone is having the same annoying problems with the Source model format that I had.
Oh well... at least I had the chance to interact with the brilliant, bug-free, fast, efficient and useful destribution system that is Steam. Oh, what a joy! This comment was edited on Jun 29, 21:53. |

Was hoping for so much more from WoW, but alas, it turned out to be basically similar to ever other MMORPG out there.
Can't wait for the day when we get massively multiplayer Morrowind style RPG's with quests that actually matter...
