All this talk about Portal, TF2 and how fun those are... I -really- would like to play them.

Blah.

Edit: Yes, my PC is still a doorstop. I've been occupying my time with things other than PC gaming, heathen that I am.

I'm dyin to get that one...

I would, but as I only have a PS2 (and not an XBox360 or PS3), there's little point. Besides, I'd rather get myself a full electronic drumkit... much more versatile.

Well, the only thing after that that's stopping me is a lack of space.

Oh, and neither of my roommates would have any of it, I think. *shrug* Ah well.

8. Rock Band Nov 3, 2007, 21:02 Dan =0)

I checked out Rock Band (drums) at my local Best Buy... it was actually a lot of fun, but I'd still prefer playing the real drums. Synth kit preferably (so I can wear headphones and not wake up the neighbors).

Nah... I've been driving the Elantra around, getting used to a manual transmission. It's actually a lot of fun, and pretty easy to get up to speed (no pun intended) on driving smoothly once you get going.

Enahs, you can find me in live chat in case you're still around - nin or anyone else, feel free too.

I think Carl Sagan's Cosmos series used that...

Loved it then, love it now.

I also like Jupiter.

<mental image of Dan getting behind hell of new car and saying "We're on a mission from God!">

Brain fart? (I'm guessing you meant "wheel".)

Just need the sunglasses, quarter tank of gas, cop shocks, cop engine, cop wheels, and a broken cigarette lighter; then I'm good to go.

EDIT: As hokey as it sounds, actually, I'm putting together a CD for my new(er) car. I'll send $5 to the person who, within the next hour, gives me the name of the first song I plan on playing as I drive it off the lot...

EDIT2: fixed a couple errors in previous edit. Oh yes, and Venetian Snares (drum & bass guy from Winnipeg with lots of orchestral stuff) is great... I especially like the track "Hajnal" from the album "Rossz Csillag Alatt Született."

EDIT3 and 4..... blah.

heh, just got home from getting my moto from a friends house (in the back of a pickup).

Needs new news coils and wires, doesn't fire hot enough to burn the gas.

Nice.

I just bought this vehicle as a replacement for my three-week-dead Camry:

http://tinyurl.com/2pugz6
(Autotrader.com website)

Low mileage, no problems in CarFax and according to a trusted mechanic, drives nicely, and it'll hopefully get me around for at least a few years while giving me the option of hauling stuff if need be. Just need to get used to a manual transmission again...

Not exactly my first choice of body style or color, but I think I could do far worse with respect to that.

Gonna finalize everything and pick up the car on Monday...

Dan =0)

EDIT: PS Had a gig Friday night... we set up our stuff at midnight, but most of the crowd left. Still, we got paid (a rarity, considering the last three gigs were pretty much nil in the $ dept.) and I had the most fun at this gig, though it was abbreviated.

17. Re: Quick car question Oct 2, 2007, 23:02 Dan =0)

It really comes down to finding a car with the features you want in the prince range you can afford, and then make sure to check everything out good.

The whole concept of swearing by a car or brand does not apply to a used car like this. The quality of the car now depends more on who had it before you and how they drove it and took care of it then on who made it. It is not like a certified used car were it is 2 or less years old.

Get the CarFax report, and get it checked out and test drive it really well.

Well, I ran the VINs of the Taurus and this Camry that I'm also looking at.

Turns out the Taurus has been in an accident (left center pillar damaged) and the Camry's been repossessed.

Whee.

10. Quick car question Oct 2, 2007, 16:47 Dan =0)

So, I found this, and pretty well have my heart set on it (after I will test drive it):

(Cars.com - Ford Taurus '99 SE Wagon - 86K mi, FWD, ~$3500)

http://tinyurl.com/2t7dug

Looks great on the exterior and interior, hoping the parts under the hood look and run as well as the dealer claims (which is why I will test drive and take to a trusted mechanic, of course)!

Any insight? I've heard from the few Ford Taurus owners I know that they seem to be relatively reliable. Just wondering if anyone here's had experience with 'em.

What I'm looking for: Something around $3000 (which I know isn't that much for any terribly decent car here); automatic transmission; station wagon form factor, or at least something a bit larger than a sedan that can carry my music equipment and leave the front passenger seat open for an extra person; something 60-100K miles or so.

That's probably going to limit things a LOT, but so far this seems to be the best thing I've found, on cars.com at least. Most family, some friends and a few coworkers I know are quite gung-ho about Toyotas and Hondas. I can vouch for my old Camry's longevity ('94 with 222,350 miles RIP), but I'm finding it hard to find any Toyota or Honda, used or otherwise, with the specs I'm looking for at that price in my area.

Maybe I should move?

EDIT: Okay, so technically my post contains two questions...

EDIT2: Cleared up some text.

Yeah.. I've been visiting here and there but not posting much nowadays.

Oh yeah, found this vehicle:

http://boston.craigslist.org/gbs/car/436150401.html

A bit on the high mileage, and it's a manual (I've only driven a friend's VW Jetta, which was a manual, once back in 2002)... but it looks nice. And supposedly runs nice.

My computer still hasn't been upgraded/revamped, but I've been looking again at some Core 2 Duo type options I can slowly piece together for ~$350.. nothing astounding, but something that will use my current case and vid card.

EDIT: *Shameless plug* If anyone's in the Boston/metrowest area, the band (Lucretia's Daggers) is playing Oct 5 - Friday - at the Lizard Lounge, and Oct 28 at the Cantab Lounge.... */shameless plug*

Going to Live Chat now...

Get a dog. Dogs love going for walks.

If the landlord would allow it, and if I had the time/money, then sure.

Yeah baby. Playing games with my better system! It is so nice playing games not at slide show pace! It is great to kill the time while various analysis run over on the laptop. Freakin schweet as multi-tasking going here. I am getting major stuff done; it feels great. Which is nice as the cold last week put me behind a little.

Cool... I was actually thinking about putting together a list of inexpensive-yet-doable components for a future system... though I don't consider Jetway at the top of the list at all for motherboards, I happened to find one for $29.99 (yes, you read that right, one cent short of $30) that can support a core 2 duo .

Sorry about no gaming PC or car. No car is not that big of a deal if the weather is nice and you do not live far from work....but you do...so bummer.

Eh, it's not all that bad on Tuesdays usually - most weeks on Tuesdays I'm taking the bus into Boston, rather than all the way out to Framingham.

EDIT: In live chat now if anyone wants to meet there.

3. Not having a car (or a Windows PC?)... Sep 28, 2007, 23:08 Dan =0)

has made me appreciate walking... a lot. You might think that by that statement I don't exercise a lot. Okay, well, you'd be right (sadly).

Anywho, beautiful night tonight for a walk, out here. 68F, just a few clouds hanging but otherwise clear skies, no rain, maybe a little humid... but great to just walk about. Too bad the two nearby malls (one with a Best Buy) close at 9pm. The one in Natick closes at 10pm, or 10:30... ah well.

Hope everyone's enjoying their start to the weekend... in whatever way, shape or form you like!

Speaking of student idiots and the like:

http://www.boston.com/news/globe/city_region/breaking_news/2007/09/mit_student_arr.html

Mistake #1: Don't say a word to the authority figure when s/he asks about the shirt and its electronics that you're wearing. Especially if this inquiry takes place at an airport.

Mistake #2: Turn and walk away after mistake #1.

On one hand, I applaud her for doing something "creative" with her clothing from a techie/geek perspective (though it's nothing mind-blowing... no pun intended?). On the other, she seems to be missing a bit of common sense and courtesy... I mean, one asking about a plastic circuit board strapped to another's chest wasn't out of line...

EDIT: Of course, reportedly in this case, the police were ready to use machine guns... heh.

I LOVED the Sisters of Mercy, though I think I lost their CDs when I moved to the States (grrrr).

Lucretia, My Reflection was one of their most awesome songs.

To be honest, your band sounds pretty good, but Eldridge (Eldritch?) their singer has their really deep, gravelly voice and it sounds kind of strange to hear a girl singing to that music. And you need LOTS more bass.

But hey, it sounds a lot better than when me and my buddies did this, drunk out of our gourds, as an impromptu karaoke one night.

Creston

Agreed, either I (with the keys/drums/bass going on the iBook) was underpowered, or both guitar and voice were overpowered.

As to the "tone" of her voice, yeah. I was told by former bass player as he was recording in my bedroom studio that I should be the one singing that, as I can produce a very similar timbre and presence to that of Eldritch.
