We've probably got that much around here (eastern mass) - not a lot by our standards... but certainly enough to prevent my car (and a couple others) from going up the hill I live on... oh yes, commute home? I started at 2pm... got home at 9:30pm. This would normally be a 1-hour commute for me.

And of you tards not played HL2 yet and want a copy? I still got an extra gift, to gift. Know anybody who has not and wants to? I have had the damn thing for months now.
I would. But, I have no functioning computer on which to play it. I figure you couldn't afford Bats' loan/mortgage, but maybe you could set aside a few pennies for a brand-spanking new system for my birthday/Christmas?

in my old apt. the propane heater went out- for a week - in December, no less; I slept in at least two layers of clothes and a jacket during that time, as the temperatures were about freezing...
Not the same as having no electricity, but it sucks all the same.
The entire heating unit wound up being replaced since it was, in fact, so old to begin with that it would have cost more to fix.

I was amazed when I first read the headline this morning as "Death-sensing camera...". So much for not being awake.
But the tech in the article seems pretty cool - though it's only naturally the next step from using a remote control.

Are you sure socket 754 is correct?
And that is a PCI-x MB, do you have a PCI-X video card, or is it agp?
What kind of CPU do you have and video card do you want to keep for now?
Well, granted I have a socket 939 CPU, but that's prolly already toast anyway.
Yup, I've got a PCI Express ATI card..

I'm not a big fan of Foxconn, but there's a motherboard on newegg I've found there that's $30, with integrated nVidia graphics:

I've also found Biostar (blech), Jetway (blech?), and ECS (???). I'm not looking to overclock, but then I don't want to get utter crap either. I loved my BFG Tech board, but it "passed away", along with the PSU, in September. (Yes, it's been that long, folks!).
I'd just prefer to resurrect my system at this point as inexpensively as possible, without sacrificing reliability... (which is why I'd prefer to stay away from the likes of Foxconn if I can help it...).

I was able to see it again, this time with sound.
I have to saz, WHAT THE F*** was with Emile Hirsche's voice? Speed was not a soft-spoken mamby-pamby.
Eh, just lowers my desire to see the movie that much more... not that it was ever really anywhere near the level of "OMGIWANNASEEITWTFBBQ!!!11!"

Agreed... Looks like another FF4 or Lost in Space, but somehow worse.
The car looks kinda neat, but I'm not going to pay $10+ at the theatre to see that and a thin, poorly-done wrapper of a plot...

Indeed. I frequent the board to read news, yes; but, I post more often in the afternoon/evenings.
Not that I have much to contribute with regard to gaming in particular these days, though.
On another note, snow's coming down here nicely.. it'll be fun driving home with all this soon-to-be slush.
EDIT: Just saw the Speed Racer trailer. I really hope they don't have that background "ramping" effect behind the characters in the movie, as they show in the preview. It works in the 'toons, but not in live-action for me. Too corny, even for Speed Racer... *ducks*

My workplace, friends, etc are all Pats/Sox-lovers. I'm not a big sports fan/nut, so I mostly ignore all the hubbub surrounding that.

Why not compare young chimps with young humans (say 18 or so)? I think that would be a fair comparison, rather than between young chimps and adult humans... But then, I'm not a statistician.

I thought it was all right, except for TMSST: the part where DG takes the axe to this ice-covered door - she appears to put very little effort into what should be huge strikes... that and the initial viewing of "Mystic Man" was slightly more bizarre than I could fathom
Hoping the second part will be as good or better...

Well, I stepped through a portal to an alternate (and risk-free) dimension or something last night, as I randomly decided to go to Barnes & Noble to get a music mag, and found myself listening to, and seeing in-person, Bob McGrath of Sesame Street. He was just wrapping up telling a funny story, and then started to sing "Sing a Song". Never got to meet the guy, as I had somewhere to be, but, boy - did that take me back...

Agreed, I play guitar pretty well but suck at guitar hero. Something that GH can teach future musicians though is rhythm.
But yeah, I've seen some really good guitar hero players who use downstrokes only...you'll never play a real guitar like that and have it sound decent.
What I find saddening is that Guitar Center, a store that I consider sells professional music equipment, recently started selling GH3 with controllers...
Yes, I think it's nice that GH and similar games are getting people interested in "playing music" on some level, but the experience is not, as Jerykk Jeraxle pointed out, the same as playing on an actual guitar or other instrument.
Though, on another note (har har), I'd really like to get Rock Band, despite my roommates' indications that they would never even be caught dead playing that or GH...
(Unfortunately in my situation, acquiring new games/PC components is becoming more of a luxury right now...)

Also see my latest post re: Perpetual / ST MMO from yesterday's BN. To sum, I just think the fans seem to have a better idea of where they want the series to go (outside of "down the tubes") better than the producers at this point.
It's like V'Ger looking for its creator, who no longer exists, and so cannot join with it to produce a new life-form. But then, I'm not seeing Rick Berman et al. as a collective Decker...

A new movie is out next year
Yes, but it will be a prequel; I don't have very high hopes for it.
Just open the damn universe to the fans and let them have at it, to make new stories as they want them to be told, whether it be in games, books, television, whatever.
Reboot with a new crew, set it a few centuries past Voyeur.. um, Voyager, make it grittier. Federation corrupts, factions splinter off and spread out across the quadrants, as they try to find and control dwindling resources and make new discoveries (alien races/artifacts/entities/star systems/etc) along the way...
Probably easier said than done, though.
EDIT: Then again, that would somewhat take on the atmosphere of the revamped (and now ending?) Battlestar Galatica...
