Only about five times, all during college.

PS 3 more posts until I'm not even remotely a quarter away from nin's count...

Lycos is more a portal now than anything, and WebCrawler appears to have become more of an aggregate search engine, tying together several other engines (Google, Ask.com, etc.) at once... so I suppose WC is effectively "dead" as a stand-alone.

Also, um, I hate to admit, but *raises hand* hi, I'm Dan =0), and I was an AOL user up until around 1997 when at home.

What they fail to mention is to actually play it as a reasonable frame rate you have to have a computer sent back in time from roughly the year 2102.

And that's just on the low settings.

I didn't really get into the online gaming arena much (dialup or otherwise) until I hit college, except for a two-week course at WPI (between sophomore and junior years in high school) in the summer of 1994 where a group of students and I played DOOM. Webcrawler was introduced to me at WPI, as well Lycos. Yahoo? A mere search engine rather than a full-out busy-looking portal.

Netscape was "the bomb" back then, too. Running on Windows 3.11.

Memories.....

I had a "flying disc" (frisbee) from that company, that was made around.. oh, in the late 1960s. That thing was really freaking sturdy as all heck, unlike this cheap made-in-(pick your southereastern asian country of choice) crap that I usually see now.

It finally met its bleached and broken death after it got stepped on one too many times over the course of its life..

Dan

PS My old x700 PCI-Express card seems to work in my "new" PC. No more sharing memory between the video chipset and system!

I wonder who will be in Soul Calibur 5.

Alvin and the Chipmunks, Garfield, and the Cat in the Hat.

peanut butter, banana and bacon sandwiches

That just seems like a disgusting combination to me.

Then again, I guess I'd be willing to try it - I had some "Dough" (VERY salty drink) for the first time at an Afghani restaurant while visiting friends in Virginia/DC. I would never drink that just by itself.

But.. frying the sandwich? I didn't know about that, either.

It was a remix of "Oh L'Amour".

While I like Erasure, I can't say that I have that song, original or remix. Sorry Warhawk

Batman, Portal and Peggle sums it up. Do you play TF2 by any chance? Roomie who also has Orange Box doesn't seem too fond of TF2's cartoony graphics. Just wondering how many here might want to, or be able to, get together in a match.

Also, I got around to updating Guild Wars.. so I might hop into that for a while tonight.

Blah. So many single-player games to wrap up, too. So little time...

I'm sure he's at CES right now.

I remember a ridiculous segment on radio where a DJ and cohost were trying to call out Elvis' spirit in the manner of a seance(sp?), on his birthday no less. Somehow, it worked - through the magic of celebrity voice impersonation, of course.

What I don't understand is why some people insist he's still around - does it have to do with the Elvis performers who're so convincing? (E.g. Bruce Campbell in Bubba Hotep. )

Agreed... I like the 1966 one better.

Oh, and Portal was a blast... picked up OB and played last night.

TF2 some time tonight, anyone? I've been itching to try that one out...

And Peggle. Don't get me started on Peggle. It's addicting.

well there isnt one. onboard video is meant to be able to run windows desktops and on the wildest days maybe a game of solitaire.

I was just able to run Half-Life 2 without any issues.

Why are you concerned with onboard video?

Because I was looking for a compact all-in-one solution that would possibly hold me over until I could drop in a more decent card?

16. Motherboards... Jan 7, 2008, 00:31 Dan =0)

Well, go figure. This new motherboard I got, with all its fancy-shmancy video ports (HDMI, S-Video, VGA, DVI-D) doesn't have a graphics chipset that supports SM3.0 - whereas the previous board (the ECS) did, though it was terribly slow. X1250 on this board... at least the network works!

ECS is trash

I'm finding out the hard way that it's more suitable for entry-level/small-time office work. Clearly not a definite "gamer" board (I so miss my BFGTech nForce Ultra 4), though I figured at the time that it was inexpensive - but I guess I got what I paid for. So, off to the shop again in, oh, 7 1/2 hours to get my money back...

Tonight Rock Band get together was a blast,

I so want to play that with a full group....

I've decided to return the motherboard, as no matter what I've done so far, I can't get NIC drivers to work. Incidentally, this 'board's onboard graphics chipset had Shader 3.0 support, so I could at least launch the Bioshock demo, though I was definitely in slideshow city.

MicroCenter, here I come (again).

15. Re: Compy: Resurrection Jan 5, 2008, 23:41 Dan =0)

All I have to say is - holy crap is the ECS (EliteGroup Computing Systems) site slow...

Trying to download latest Realtek drivers for the mobo - the ones on the mobo CD didn't install properly. This might take a little while longer than I expected.

I was hoping to hop into guild wars or HL2 (if the onboard video works well enough) about half an hour ago. Oh yes, I'm beginning to wonder if my ATI card had been nuked during the PSU-fry way back when, as I installed it on this new mobo, with no graphics either onboard or on the card's VGA port...

EDIT: Realtek onboard networking seems to work on the physical level, but the driver will not install properly in XP - the drivers from Realtek's website seem to go through and install fine (even give the option to repair/remove), but nothing new appears in the Network Connections window. I just have my Local Area Connection 2 up there for VPN... bah.

Funny, though - with all these hardware changes, XP didn't ask me to reauthenticate...
