On another completely different note, Beauty & the Geek is auditioning in my area. Figured I'd audition for the helluvit, Thursday late evening. By no means, does this mean that I'd necessarily get on the show...

So the small animals will become extinct even faster accidentally? (So much for not having woken up yet!)

8. Re: Star Trek Trailer # 2 Nov 18, 2008, 08:45 Dan =0)

While I like the ship construction scene as well, I thought for a bit that I was looking at the wrong movie trailer - or that Apple had screwed up and linked to some buddy flick involving a red sports car...
and the rest of the trailer? Eh. It just looks way too "clean" even for Star Trek.... "sterile" would be a better word for it. And white. Too much white. And Christopher Pine? He just doesn't look... "right" as Kirk.

But that's just me.

Even so, I'll probably go see the movie just to see for myself if I'll actually like it. Why do I have the feeling I'll be disappointed, regardless?

11. Re: OSX vs Win7 Nov 10, 2008, 20:41 Dan =0)

whatever the case, Apple royally screwed the pooch by taking firewire off the new Macbooks.. total bonehead move, considering one of their primary markets is A/V pros - which tend to use manifold FW devices

FW's been retained on the new MBP... still, I wouldn't want to pay -more- for effectively the same hardware (Firewire port, that is...) I've got on an older consumer-levelish iBook...

Bah. I hope their next refresh reintroduces FW (and introduces eSATA). I use FireWire exclusively for loading samples from, and recording audio to, an external drive...

I have a gay cousin - he's probably my favorite one, too. I don't really care what he does in the bedroom, but I don't want legalized gay marriages. I think it is wrong.

Exactly why, in my mind, we should have legalized unions that afford the same rights and benefits to homosexual couple as to a heterosexual couple; the marriage (for the heterosexual couple) is simply a religious ceremony after that point, and the homosexual couple can celebrate with their own ceremony, or however they see fit.

I don't fucking care which, just choose one time and stick with it. Commit, dammit!

+1.

As to KOTH, there were actually a few episodes that kinda grew on me, but for the most part the series overall was just "meh." One of my favorites was SSSKOTHT: Hank's taking an anger management class after accidentally cutting off Dale's finger.

PS Last night's Halloween party FTW (also my younger niece's 1st b-day).

EDIT: I almost thought the delete button said "Donate"... haven't had any alcomohol today... Drinkers

Minor issue (may be a matter of preference on my part):

The last line of text in a comment is at the bottom of the comment window, without any / with very little "padding" in between - it looks abrupt, and a little weird.

Otherwise, I like the enhancements made to the site!

I've got Worms: Armageddon for PC. Holy heck is that fun to play with 8 worms per team!

Now I just need to find a no-cd crack or a copy, as the original CD itself that I have is broken...

3. Doubling Vitamin D Oct 14, 2008, 08:44 Dan =0)

Coulda used some of that myself back in the day. Not only do we have rather dark falls/winters in this area (NE US), but from what I've read, as children born prematurely (such as myself) lose vitamin D through, er, urine... this despite having consumed gallons of milk throughout most of my life.

I'm trying to be less of a vampire, though, and getting out in the sun for 10-15 minutes or so daily.

P.S. The "secret text" button is really quite secret... I'm still used to typing the tags. *Clicks on "More" link* Holy crap that's a lot of smilies... Speechless

22. Bah Oct 12, 2008, 04:11 Dan =0)

So, after having a few beers with gals next door (and some of their friends, and bfs, while playing beer-based card games), I've got this quick news to report:

1. One of my old roommates got married today. Lots of disco music, and music from the 40s-50s-60s eras. Nothing really modern aside from some "cha cha" rap thing that's relatively popular I guess, and takes somewhat from the electric slide (the "dance" itself), I think...

2. My cousin from CA came over for the week, my mother called me about it only on Friday afternoon, saying that he would be over Sat. afternoon (of course, I'm at a wedding), and she doesn't have any of his contact info, so I could arrange something prior to that event...

3. A friend of a friend of mine passed away after a decision to pull life support was made.

4. I got a phone # (from one of the girls, of course).

So yeah, really weird weekend/day for me so far. I've got Monday off, which is nice.

Hope everyone's staying warm (if it's cold where you are). We've been blessed up here with rainless moderately warm/cool weather (50s-60s).

Probably the most coherent post I'll ever make while buzzed slightly,

Dan =0)

PS What's this about a "bear mount"? Sounds kinky....

I've deployed Linksys WRT54Gs without fail (when they were "in") at my mother's and sister's - though at my mother's, Comcast had changed a few things around on their network and, for some odd reason had stated that whatever they had done/put in was not compatible with the WRT54G - she now has a D-Link wireless-G capable router.

I think the Linksys Wireless-Ns are okay:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16833124277

Though there might be better Wireless-N routers out there.

(Yes, I'm a Linksys nut...)

But yeah, I haven't gone past wireless-g myself, yet.

EDIT: I personally wouldn't touch Netgear with a 10-foot pole, though I'm guessing others here may have had better luck with their routers. I have two friends both with Netgear WGR614 routers on their networks, and both units sucked - very minimal range, needed a bit of extra firewall configuration to allow guildwars to work (when I tried to demo GW to a buddy of mine, it turns out the SPI feature on the router firewall hampered GW's attempts to connect... among other things).

I've made bluesnews.com my primary go-to site for gaming-related (and non-related) news since, oh, 1998?.... and it's never gotten stale.

Keep it up!

EDIT: Happy birthday to eDave, as well!

42. Steam Oct 3, 2008, 19:37 Dan =0)

On a completely different topic, I booted my Windows PC and RDP'd into it from my Mac, noticed Steam had loaded, and had a bunch of games filed under "not installed" - Age of Chivalry, DIPRIP Warm Up, Insurgency, Synergy, Zombie Panie! Source - did I miss something, or is there some sort of free mod weekend thing going on? (Downloading Synergy as we speak...)
