Hear, hear. Cool to see such an (ahem) old piece of machinima get name-dropped like that.

Well I see the logic behind the potential ghost-town situation Zadig mentions. However, despite all the recent articles about GW2, we really don't know very much about this game at all. I won't join any we're-all-gonna-die bandwagon till I play the game. Just because the level cap is higher does not necessarily mean jumping on-board the WoWClone bandwagon if the games systems are fundamentally different and I get the impression they will be. I also see a lot of benefits to raising the level cap and flattening out the curve.

Yup - have to admit, a lot of GW was spent being stuck at level 20, never getting stronger. Don't see a huge downside to this.

Finally. I've been waiting on RPG (let's not get into semantics) developers to do this for twenty fucking years.

Creston

Seconded - can only hope it continues to sound this good, Creston. For all the warts of the original GW they definitely have some sound concepts packed in there. Lost way too much of my life to that game.

I'm buying Starcraft 2.

I'm stunned by your shortsightedness.

Seconded. I'm not a WoW player, but here's why I'm concerned with such an act/precedent as RealID:

This is easily the lamest mutation yet. The gnome makes it EASIER because hordes ONLY ATTACK the guy with the gnome.

They need to give serious thought to future campaign mutations or just not bother doing them. I've been through the campaigns dozens of times and these mutations don't do nearly enough to make them interesting again. I say stick with 8-player mutations.

Or survival, why hasn't there been a mutation for survival?

There will be. Survival Versus is on the way.

23. Re: Fix the bugs before you ship the game. May 14, 2010, 10:02 Kevlar

Indeed. It seems foolish to debate, but if we're going to fan the flames: Apparently some favor the EA method where they ship a comprehensive patch every 1.5 years and that STILL cause bugs.

Indeed. GLaDOS actually specifies precisely what the deal is as you near the end of Portal.

News Comments > No BioShock 2 Gamepad Support
8. Re: Don't ask for gamepad support in an FPS. Feb 12, 2010, 14:05 Kevlar

I've Got The News Blues wrote on Feb 12, 2010, 12:13:
Asking for this hurts PC gaming. While I would prefer that PC games support as many types of peripherals as possible, I don't like UI's, HUD's, and aiming which is designed to accomodate the limitations of a gamepad unless the game is best played with a gamepad such as an action sports title or a vehicular combat game. Since development resources are usually limited, PC gamers can't have it both ways. We can't get titles designed to accomodate the extended functionality of a PC and also expect a simplified console game for the relative few who want that. So, given the choice between a quick-and-dirty console port designed for a gamepad and a game designed for a PC's keyboard and mouse, I would prefer the latter.

So, if you want to play a PC FPS game with a gamepad, use one of the keyboard and mouse emulation utilities that come with some gamepads or a third-party one like Xpadder.

Quoted for emphasis. Agreed on every point.

It would have been nice of them to issue the 4-pack back during the Holiday sale when the game was 25 or 50% off...

For the split screeners the water shader issue was making 3 of the 5 campaigns completely unplayable, so it was nice of them to address that (since it was reported in the first week after release).

Been a while since I played this, but there definitely was a patch that improved assist prioritization with the SurvivorBots. Try sb_escort 1 on your server (using SourceMod will prevent it from being counted as a cheat) as it improves a lot of SB functions in one cvar. I don't know why they don't use it as the default, in fact, but it's in there.

No released server code and no mods = no better than IW.

I love how EA touted their 'we have dedicated servers' crap when IW said MW2 would not have them only to screw us in the ass with this announcement.

I guess LAN parties are dead as well.

NO SALE

Hear, hear.

All you need to know. That, and apparently if we ever stop being racist to our own species, we'll pass it on to someone else's.

Not quite all you need to know. Man uses gravity gun to shoot a goddamned pig through a tin shack.

The other thing that makes me wonder is how Steam detects *PHYSICAL* CPU's. It says that 56.93% have 2 CPU's. I find that hard to believe.

That's cores; the survey is saying most people have a dual-core system.

Hell yes. I love how only about 5 years ago no one was putting co-op play into the biggest titles - "the game wasn't built for that", and all those other excuses. So long as they don't change the core of what Dead Space is, put co-op in! Woooot!

I wonder how much of their insane profits are going towards that foundation they announced that helps veterans find jobs? You know, the one they announced that one time and then never talked about ever again?
