jesus fucking christ, the demo requires steam too? screw you Valve!
duh. get over it.
and no, the demo doesn't have any new content.
the demo takes players through some of the early levels of the game and later transports them to the area of the game known as Ravenholm.

Wait a minute. I just read the Gamespot article and it states that Steam buyer/users will be able to play the game on Nov. 16, but the physical version of the game distributed by VUGames will not ship for retail sales untill Nov. 16. That means that Steam users just *might* be able to play the game earleir then brick and mortar store buyers.
It should arrive in retail stores THE WEEK OF the 16th. Some retailers will get it early, some will get it later. Game releases dates aren't definite like Tuesday music releases.
I'm betting on Steam letting us play on Monday.

actually, if you're like me and you don't reboot your machine very often/ever, then it's a nice reminder to shut down steam and restart it. it seems to only query the server when it's coming up, and doesn't seem to poll when it's just hanging out.
i only have Steam running when i want to play. kinda pointless to have it running in your systray taking up memory when you're not doing anything with it.

bunko if you go to steampowered.com you'll see that if you pre-order HL2 now, you get CS:S immediately and you can play it now.
as for "is this news?" - doesn't everyone have steampowered.com's RSS feed in their RSS aggregator anyway? (or LiveBookmark feature in FireFox for me). maybe that's just me. This comment was edited on Oct 13, 16:29. |

no. you can only get the DVD version from retailers.
(and Blue the update is actually for the Steam client, not CS:S)

well for some reason it took forever to load, then quit to the desktop after i changed the controls.
fired it up again and finally it came up.
looks pretty at 1280x1024 with max details on my 6800 GT OC, but as noted - the scripting is awful. And the "good job Tommy!" every 3 seconds is annoying.
and it takes....so....long.....to.....switch....weapons...
the best part is the butt smack, which is so hard that they go flying 20 feet apparently. i'm a strong mofo i guess.

i'm guessing HL2 won't be as fantastic as everyone thinks it will, because we've had 4 years to hype it up
just looking at the videos for it, you can tell the graphics aren't up there with Doom 3, but here's my take:
Doom 3 has excellent graphics, it has its scary and intense moments, but there's only so many times that you can grab a big health pack and know that something is going to come out at you. it gets boring pretty quickly. and as for interacting with the environment, I get to shoot some lights and watch the shadow move. Oh and I get to push a barrel around or knock over a chair. ZZZZzzzz.
HL2 sounds like it will be more fun, far from boring, and when you're done with SP - you have the whole world of MP to look forward to. We've all been playing HL mods for 5 years - that says something about the replayability and gameplay.

Why are people still posting link to FTP sites with waiting lines is beyond me.]
because the BitTorrent has 1 seeder, 6 peers and flying at the incredibly fast rate of 2k/sec. meanwhile, my no-wait access to FilePlanet (that i'm borrowing from my friend.. ahem) is over 100k/sec.

i'm not pre-ordering because you know they'll have a pricing war when it comes out among the majors. i'll end up getting it at Best Buy who will price match and i can use my reward zone card to get some points.
