News Comments > Midday Safety Dance
1. Re: Midday Safety Dance Sep 30, 2011, 18:26 raVen

I used to hate browsing the web without adblock or some other script modifier to avoid ads.
Personally, what works best for me (in Chrome) is to turn all plugins (Flash / silverlight / whathaveyou) to On-Demand mode. I also turn off all cookies, and specifically add sites to white-lists as I need them for posting, purchasing, and logging in to things.

So far this method while slightly tedious at times is pretty awesome, I get less super annoying ads because they aren't flash ads unless I want to load them; and even if they detect that flash isn't loaded and display and image it's not flashing (most of the time) which I hated about ads in the first place.

In Chrome when white-listing a site or subdomain for cookies, you can even choose only for session, meaning it will always disappear when closing tabs or windows.

This takes care of my 2 major problems with the internet:
1. Tracking via cookies
2. Annoying ads anything flash (whatever-plugin) causing crashes (possible exploits) or just more data transfer and memory usage.

Hmm, Version 11.8 gave me some serious problems with dual monitor support (Not letting me set the correct refresh on my 2nd monitor - and made it unusable)
Hopefully this is fixed. I'll post again when I get home and check it out.

There was a comment about Developers and Enterprise being able to use Metro apps.
BUT if it's anything like Apple's iPhone app store then you'd have to be a registered Developer or Enterprise in order to actually side load.
I think it's interesting they've jumped on the HTML5 bandwagon, but to also jump on the Apple model too is disheartening.
I'll probably stick to 7. We just upgraded at work to 7, and most everyone is pleased with it.

I'm sure the EULA will suck just as much for Vita. I was planning on getting one due to region free which the 3ds doesn't have any more. (beginning with the DSi they started region locking carts.)
Why must game companies make it so hard for me to give them money?

I guess I should put more effort into my other hobbies.

There goes any reason to buy a Vita, or update my PS3.
Sony: thanks for letting me save more money!

The wife and I started it not long ago. We're almost through season 2. It's something we can watch with the kids. Also, for extra fun, yell at Wesley Crusher for being an idiot(or whatever comes to mind) whenever he speaks. Not that I don't like Wil Wheaton. It just makes the show interactive.
I choose to openly mock Deanna.

So, if I buy it now does that reinforce that it's okay to put DRM in and then later take it out?
I'd rather reinforce no DRM altogether.

Dilemma aside: Game still looks cool, and would like to check it out.

I don't care if buying this game saves 4 kids from starving, helps end global warming, and comes with a coupon to get my bellend polished by Kiera Knightly - I am not spending one cent on another COD game. FFS if buying this game would cure my grandfathers cancer and make my dick grow an extra 3 inches overnight - i would still not buy it. I refuse to spend $60 on a COD4 map pack. ARMA III all day.
Are you a comic? I can't stop laughing at the theatrics in your post.
I wont be picking it up out of respect to the Infinity Ward antics.

If you're trying to be sincere that's really not the way to get anyone to pay attention. (If you're just trolling, I laughed)

I have no problem with Steamworks, nor did I say I did in my post.
I don't like how EA has handled the situation (Origin EULA + Origin Exclusives + DLC bickering and not on Steam ... Need I go on?). Nor do I like how Activision handled Infinity Ward.

This is like tic-tac-toe from Wargames.
The only way to win, is to not play. Too bad it took me this long to figure that out.

At this point I'd rather play MW3 over BF3 due to origin. But due to the Infinity Ward fiasco I'm left with choosing neither. Guess I'll play Rage + Deus Ex + Fallout New Vegas (late to the party) + Skyrim.

FUUUUUCK, I literally went to Best Buy to purchase this game which is right next door to the gamestop.

I said to myself "more than likely gamestop won't even have the Windows version" and I said fuck it and went to best buy.
Trust me, you'll be happier in the long run if you keep that attitude up.

No hem, no haw. Buying this day one.
Too bad everyone else makes things complicated with DRM and removing options like LAN.
I really wanted to play D3 more than I played it at blizzcon last year. Oh well.

I want to purchase this; this game looks rad.

That being said: Ubisoft drop your DRM. Or you wont see another dime from me on PC or console. In fact any game you publish at all will never be purchased by me. I wont even give you the time of day to pirate it.

Ubisoft: The kiss of death.

I really don't know where all this comes from. Having been a "hardcore" raider since Burning Crusade (I've taken a few breaks since then and now), gear has never been easier to get than it is now. I currently have a mage alt that just hit 85 several weeks ago, I put off gearing it up until the last week because my guild has been working on progression raiding ...
PuGs.
(As a healer:)
Pugging through Wrath was awesome. Even raids and Heroics.
Back when I quit, pugging heroics was nerve-racking, usually nothing I could do as a healer to keep people who didn't know what was going on alive (Where in wrath, I could say please don't stand in X ~ cata they'd die.)

I honestly don't like guilds. Every guild I've been in was rife with drama. Which usually I'd only stay in because of real life friends, or leave.

Edit: Healing as a priest BLEW. They had plenty of good ideas, but changed the bloody class about 100 times in the first month of cataclysm. This compounding the above made me hate my favorite character.

IF the characters are balanced it's not and wont be pay to win.
I think that's the root of the problem here.
I do disagree, and we're not friends.

How you gonna do that AMD when you are just barely keeping up what Nvidia is doing today?
Like fabbing CPUs with GPUS on die?

This last generation it appeared that NVidia has had quite a bit to worry about, especially with Fermi having such a terrible start.
Edit: With the exception of vendor locked Physics APIs (Fuck NVidia)

13. Re: Super Street Fighter IV: Arcade Edition Patch Jul 17, 2011, 15:04 raVen

Hitbox looks interesting. I've always hated fighting games because the joysticks / input sucks. I wonder what it would take if I built my own to get it to work on ps3 / 360. Don't they require 3rd party certification for peripherals? I guess I could get it to work on PC without that complication. but then I'd still have to deal with Games for Windows Live -SHIT-

Interesting hardware project though, once I get some time, i'll probably build one.
Edit: Looks like I could rip apart a 360 controller and build one onto that, but that's retarded; i'll probably just stick with PC, and looks like I could use an atmel for the PS3, maybe with a PC / PS3 switch on USB. http://code.google.com/p/diyps3controller/
