Madness Returns was solid. Definitely better than the first game. The combat and platforming are pretty standard but the locales and atmosphere keep you going. The story is surprisingly dark as well. Game would have probably been better if it was a few hours shorter, as the levels tend to go on a bit longer than they should.

In any case, definitely worth $5 if you like platformers.

The 5 little chapters in this episode are so ridiculously short, there's no possible way you can get ANY attachement to the characters, leaving you, quite logically, horribly detached from the game from beginning to end. The choices you have to make don't make fucking sense, except for one tiny chapter where you play a woman in a group of survivers -- which is the best chapter and only good thing this crap has to offer.

I don't think you understand what this DLC is supposed to be. This DLC is designed to give some background on the characters you'll be seeing in the next season of TWD. Given that the average TWD episode was 1-2 hours long and each episode cost $5 (unless you bought the whole season on sale), $5 is a fair price for this DLC.

For what it's worth, I thought the characters and the situations they faced were interesting. You can get the DLC for $4 at GMG. If you enjoyed the first season and plan on playing the next season, I see no reason not to buy this DLC.

Only 'Martial Arts' FPS worth a shit in the history of PC gaming was Oni --nothing else came close.

Which leads me to my next question. Who owns the rights and wants to partner up with me to kickstart an Oni Redux?

1) Oni wasn't first-person.
2) Shadow Warrior > Oni.

No, wasn't me. But the persistent upgrades and loot is a nice touch and addresses the core issue some people have with rogue-likes. Namely, the fact that you completely lose all progress when you die. Rogue Legacy makes permadeath less painful and ensures you always feel like you're making progress in each playthrough. This does compromise the high stakes nature of permadeath but I think it makes the game more enjoyable in the long-run.

Beyond the whole "living in a bubble" effect, it seems like admitting that some idiot's words can harm you.

Agreed. When you censor something (or someone), you're basically admitting that they offend you.

It is quite possible that PS4 games will look better than what the highest-end PC can pull off.

There is a TON of CPU/GPU power that is being wasted through the pipelines of an all-purpose system such as Windows.

Consoles always have a much shorter pipeline and far fewer background processes, and it's on controlled hardware which can be severely optimized for without fearing for compatibility.

That's how they managed to port Quake 2 to the freaking PS1. This is how PS2 pulled off games like Shadow of the Colossus and Black (with shader effects the console isn't capable off). This is how they got a near-full-featured GTA title on the Nintendo DS. This is how end-of-life PS3 titles like "Last Of Us" look pretty stunning considering the console is based on GeForce3-strength hardware.

PS4 hardware is incomparably more powerful, so I don't exclude the possibility that it's going to beat PC in terms of visuals.

While it's true that consoles are more efficient and can thus do more with less, efficiency only takes you so far. PC hardware is already significantly more powerful than what's going into the PS4 and Xbone and that power gap is only going to widen over time.

Also, the PSOne port of Q2 was pretty terrible. It's not comparable to the PC version at all.

Randomly generated side-quests tend to be generic and forgettable. I'd rather have fewer but genuinely unique side-quests, like in RPGs. It should be about quality, not quantity.

GMG's sale wasn't bad. There were a lot of unprecedented discounts and really, that's what defines the quality of a sale. You can't judge a sale based solely on your interest in the games involved, otherwise every sale would suck because everyone has different tastes in games. Most of the games in the sale were cheaper than they've ever been before.

On a side note, it's good to see Rogue Legacy doing well. Definitely deserves it. Also interesting to see that FF7 and MK are doing well. Hopefully that means we'll be seeing more JRPGs and fighting games on PC.

Sony's been pretty good about letting PlayStation-exclusive indie games come to PC, even ones that were partially funded by them (Joe Danger, Critter Crunch, Tales From Space, etc.), but I agree - it seems doubtful we'll see much in terms of Sony first-party titles making their way to PC. (Then again, I can't completely rule it out, seeing as they're trying to take a tactic of "let's do whatever Microsoft isn't doing"...)

MS actually has some history of porting their big AAA exclusives to PC. Halo 1 & 2, Gears of War and Alan Wake come to mind. I can't think of a single AAA Sony exclusive that ever made it to PC.

At least this is more a matter of scope/feature creep than it is just outright going over budget on a fixed scope. The outcome still isn't great - having to sell a game early is a bit troubling regardless of everything else - but at least backers are getting more bang for their buck than was originally planned.

Still, it's a sign that Double Fine needs to bring in a strong project manager to keep their projects on task. This kind of directionless scope creep should never have happened.

The problem is that they didn't really have a plan going into the Kickstarter. They figured they'd get a small amount of money and just make a small adventure game. Then they got significantly more money than expected and expanded their scope to match. If they had maintained the original scope, backers would have undoubtedly been disappointed with the final product not reflecting a $3 million budget. Basically, they had to start the project from scratch after the Kickstarter ended, wasting valuable manhours on preproduction that should have been done before the Kickstarter was even launched.

I can't really blame them too much. They were the first big videogame Kickstarter so they couldn't learn from others' mistakes. Honestly, I'm fine with them releasing part of the game early if it results a better finished game.

On a side note, I'm not worried about this happening again with Broken Chalice. They seemed to have a clear plan and design doc going into that Kickstarter and the lack of stretch goals showed their reluctance to promising more than they can deliver.

Eh, not sure if the RoTT and BS games are even worth $10 combined. If the pack included every other Apogee game too, then sure.

Sounds like the guy who reviewed LSL doesn't like adventure games in general. Not sure why Gamespot hired a guy who doesn't even like the genre to review the game.

These days, rogue-likes are primarily defined by permadeath and mostly randomized content. FTL, Spelunky, Dungeons of Dredmor, Rogue Legacy, Binding of Isaac, etc, would all fit under this definition.

The problem with Jennifer Hale is that you can instantly recognize her voice regardless of role. A good voice actor can play a multitude of roles with no one ever recognizing them. Troy Baker, for example. He's played Batman, Joker, Two-Face, Booker DeWitt, Joel, Tim Drake, Robin and many other roles and I had no idea he was behind any of them.
