News Comments > Derek Paxton Overseeing All Stardock Development
3. Re: Derek Paxton Overseeing All Stardock Development Sep 10, 2013, 00:12 Zetler

I have to give them credit when credit is due. Its extremely rare in the gaming industry, but they rescued Elemental Enchantress out of the gutter and turned into one of the best fantasy RPG, and to give it away for free to the owners of the original is totally class act.

Keep up the good work.

News Comments > SOE on PlanetSide 2 in 2025
28. Re: SOE on PlanetSide 2 in 2025 Dec 2, 2012, 02:20 Zetler

Its hard to believe but SoE actually managed to produce an amazing MMO. This is clearly their best game since Everquest. There is nothing like this out there and when compared with other F2P offerings Planetside 2 simply tower above them all.

I wish all other F2P games would be so open an unrestrictive. After two weeks I decided to sub to the game because frankly, it's freaking awesome.

This game is confusing as hell. It's a lot harder to get into than say, BF3.

Right, we should fight Windows 8 because Steam is not a walled garden at all and represent freedom am I right folks? LOL. There's much irony in this.

News Comments > Guild Wars 2 Golden Rules
26. Re: Guild Wars 2 Golden Rules Jul 5, 2012, 07:22 Zetler

Some people are calling GW2 the savoir of the MMO industry, well if this is the savoir then please let the genre die. For all it's pretentious "nextgen" trappings GW2 is just a over streamlined and soulless theme park. There are times when I'm playing this game where I had to go make coffee or take out the trash out and my quests still got done thanks to a zerg of nameless Charrs.

Its as if someone determined that WoW was too "hardcore" because it required a pulse and a person to be in front of the computer. So they engineer a MMO in which an antisocial drooling simpleton can complete the content. Why even bother with the game then? Why not just streamline it some more by following the load screen with a choice of level cap tier rewards for your class and a link to the cash shop??

News Comments > TERA Free Trial
18. Re: TERA Free Trial Jun 14, 2012, 06:21 Zetler

The best thing about TERA is the high level combat. Unless you're fighting BAMs and have experienced mid game dungeon boss battles then you don't know how good TERA's combat is. It features the most visceral and engaging combat out of any MMO. Its truely nextgen, unlike Guild War 2's combat which is just another tab targeting SWTOR spin off.

The problem with TERA is that aside from the combat, everything else SUCKS. The questing system is old EQ style garbage leaving the combat as the game only redeeming quality.

While the game over all isn't that good, I'm glad that I played TERA because now I know what a nextgen MMO combat system should be like. Tab targeting is dead, you hear me Guild Wars 2? Seriously TERA combat totally wrecked Guild Wars 2 for me, I'm tired of being a god damn turret in every MMO.

EA MMO = doomed

EA just doesn't have the patience or the vision to fully flesh out a workable MMO. Every MMO they touched pretty much died.

This game is totally full of crap. If you tell the story any other way you'll be justifying terrorism. In the end you can't have peace with people who doesn't want peace which is the fundamental problem over there.

Warhawk for the PS3 is in the budget price range, yet it is a fully featured multiplayer title. So yes, budget doesn't necessary means crap. But in the PC world generally speaking budget titles are junk.

5. Re: Update has Jun 14, 2007, 02:50 Zetler

LOTRO is a good, solid MMORPOG but without a true end game there is no point in playing for more than two months. The quest centric nature of the xp grind is also extremely annoying and makes forming groups needlessly difficulty. This update though nice, is just isn't enough to bring me back.

I don't see anything great about this engine at all. The artists can change the textures on the fly...so???

Good move Funcom, don't be another Vanguard and blow your potential by releasing a game before its ready. Take your time, get it right. It did wonders for Blizzard...

As a beta tester of both games let me say this, the LOTR beta totally pwns the Vanguard beta. LOTR graphics may look dated and lack all the fancy shader effects but the game runs a hell lot better, even before the servers went down for the game's release Vanguard still ran like crap with tons of bugs all over the place.

Despite its limited scope its safe to say that upon release LOTRO will be a much more playable and focused game than Vanguard.

Will I be able to appease Nazis and Middle East dictators in this game? That would be a change since I'm so used to going on a shooting rampage and invading any country I damn well please in games based on the American military. Gotta admit, shooting rampages are a lot more fun.

30. Re: No subject Jan 20, 2007, 03:02 Zetler

Difficulty and grind isn't the issue with VG. The problem is the game, despite the potential is thrown out the door early due to Sigil's piss poor managment of their IP. For a game thats been in development this long to be this buggy and incomplete is simply unforgiveable.

From the level 1-20 the game is ok but after that the content begins to take a giant dive. The Vision? They still have no idea where they want most of the classes to be as of the latest patch. Some are uber as hell while others are gimped to uselessness.

Don't even get me started on the performance and bugs. Assuming those issues are taken care off by the best patch ever, the lack of high and mid-level content along with balancing concerns are too large to ignore.

Stay away for a year or two. If Sigil can keep the game afloat this should be the best mmmorpg ever.

So many bugs and performance issues to resolve, nevermind the high level content that just isn't there yet. If you wanna play in the paid beta for 3-6 months to get this game release ready, go ahead.

This is amazing. It takes them forever to crank out a single EQ2 expansion per year yet these EQ expansions are coming out left and right.
