News Comments > DOOM III Benchmarks
33. Re: holy friholes!!!! May 12, 2003, 16:34 Anvil

Hi Bronco

I have a 1.2 athlon and a Geforce 2 Ultra, so am at least 18 months off of bleeding edge. There is still nothing that really chugs (at 800-600).

Will I buy a mb/cpu/video upgrade for doom - well probably, for those of us that bought a 486 and 4mb ram (at 200$) for doom, its a tradition - but my guess is the average game still won't push hardware at resolutions us old timers are used to till doom engine games come out, say around xmas 2004. (or June 2009 for Duke4).

All I'm saying is, games with good sp and mp have been made before, and very successfully

Since we are talking shooters Half-Life & Quake 2 would make that list in my book from the last 5 years. Nothing else. It is apparently very, very hard to do both well.

Can't wait for this one. Having Nazis as villians is such a no brainer, you don't even have to make things up about these guys

Though of course that doesn't stop people from doing it Viz Spear of Destiny/Wolfenstein to pick just the most obvious example for FPS fans.

I like a lot of other countries, but mostly i am proud of both England and America for at long last standing up and doing something about terrorism.

The funny thing is of course is that after 9/11 people asked y werent we doing anything to try and stop it.
Now that we are, people are screaming that we shouldent be proactive.

Iraq was nothing to do with terrorism. It might have had something to do with WMD, but if it did it looks like the intelligence was about as good as the standard of comment here, but was most likely about securing a stable lower price for energy by breaking Iraqi oil reserves onto the market and out of the control of OPEC. Gas at 5$ a gallon would scare the hell out of many Americans.

Finnaly there is massive pressure to disarm the IRA, finnally they are going in and removing nutball dictators.

There has been "massive pressure" to disarm the IRA for at least 10 years, they have yet to say they will do it. Northern Ireland remains largely in the grip of Mob rule (see the recent Bolton incident and think carefully) and without any immediate hope of getting back to where we were 2 years ago.

As for removing nutball dictators, Think Mugabe etc. don't hold your breath for coalition action, though they did say the cricketers were naughty boys

Post sensible, non abusive, reasonable comment - with as much opinion as you want - and see what happens.

abusive cheap shots are as welcome as a suicide bomber on a jet plane.

No, Microsoft fucktard, if you guys stopped releasing shit
Reasoned debate strikes again.

And of course if you could point me to a different OS that doesn't have 700 bugs/new features added to it since first release, please do.

That rings so true. All that attention to stuff you'd never normally either care, nor have a clue about, in order to be just right.

Only to discover that as the Groom you rate oh maybe 85th in order of importance, somewhere round about the flower arranging girl.

What an appalling pun. Marvellous.

I'm biased but I think you'll find that modern data processing owes absolutely everything to his and Chris Dates work. Bluesnews wouldn't work as is for a start

most of the LoTD posts here are 3-5 days old and have been on lots of other sites

so stay with the other sites. Obviously I'll stay with blues and his LotD that are dated no older than yesterday in general but you know maybe those view the future sites really have something

case in point the dates in the wild boar, marshmallow peeps, firefly and dr fun stories above. none older than yesterday.

And furthermore, are games not juvenille
No. Well obviously some are, DOOM3,Doom3 or DoOmIII may well be given its apparent horror movie feel. Others are not. Godgames and MMRPGs in particular reflect very well the maturity of their players.

Must go splatter some alien scum now

We had a debate in house as to whether this was real or cgi. It turns out they really did do this and it actually took over 600 takes to get right (it was the wipers that played up the most). Sure beats car ads with upbeat music driving through wilderness.

Am I the only one willing to admin that im a windows OS
Clearly not since #13 admitted to being a windows os a mere 10 posts ago. Any similarity to windows being behind the times is merely coincidental

edit Amiga which probably explains the above comment.

Actually i'm kinda glad freddy sticks around, and indeed that Blue is so forbearing with him, I kinda hope that whilst he spews all this venom at our electronic presences he isn't out on the street generally behaving like a spoilt brat. That can only hurt others, himself or both. Here its just bandwidth, which was cheap last time I looked. Growing up electronically probably takes more time, and irritates more people but its also less costly.

edit knida kinda, neither is Engish but the second reads better.

or hey you could have this device with a unique identifier on it that enabled you to talk one to one with the people you were directly interested in just pass in their unique identifier and setup the communication. I'd call it a telephone.

All methods of mass communication get used to market things. Web forms if so used would be no different.

I suspect that the reference to Margaret Thatcher dates it no later than 1993, and probably back to the eighties. She lost power in October or November 1990.

It came up recently in a discussion about possible uses of the boolean datatype in logical database design :). I didn't feel that the boolean datatype was appropriate here.

Ok so the comment you replied to was poorly worded, but those front pages need to be held since gender is not a binary construct. It is male, female, neuter,
partially transgendered, gender reassigned male to female, gender reassigned
female to male, unknown etc.
