I don't know what hidden causes might be at work in this case, but sometimes it's a show by the prosecutor because he has an election coming up. And of course, there is the fact that prosecutors are human and some humans are just plain stupid. Hopefully, this will get settled in a reasonable way without significant damage to the kid or to the finances of the family.

There were 140+ people "working" in that department at that time. 140 people who literally did nothing, all got paid 100 grand or more, on the taxpayers' dime.
Where can I get a job like this please?

$823,000?! I would have needlessly destroyed their equipment for a mere $200k. Why yes, my sledge hammer eradicates malware, and you won't have to worry about them getting infected again, or spreading the infection.
Uh, "$4,300 to destroy $170,500 in IT equipment", the $823k was for the security contractor "for its investigation and advice." Which may or may not have been worth that (probably not, but can't say for sure).

Bitter ex-employee who couldn't hack it at Valve now spends her entire time bitching and moaning about them. Yeah, I'm sure nothing in her stories is lied or exaggerated.
She admits she is bitter. I didn't read the entire interview, but what I did read she sounded reasonable. And her insights into Valve culture aren't surprising in any way. I'd guess she is right in concluding Valve has grown past a point where the type of "management" they use can be effective.

Am I correctly understanding what they are saying? People are buying twitter followers and it is a multi-million dollar business? Simply as an ego boost or brag? Or is there a business angle here I overlooked? This seems well beyond the normal stupid...

Not familiar with him or the web-site, always a bit sad when anyone dies this young, especially difficult given the timing of his recent marriage.

Am I missing something, or is the idea that I wouldn't be able to leave an MMO without being safe from others in the game is a serious issue?

It sounds too good to be true to me. I'll believe they can pull this off in a way that causes a useful, reasonably stable economy when I see it.

I'm always a bit amused by the argument of "regulation got us here." As if things would be better if we just let the businesses make decisions as they like. The instances of companies making decisions to make money over saving the lives or health of their customers or employees are too numerous to count. Why would you trust them in matters less critical?

Not that relying on the government is a cure all, I'm just pointing out their is no more reason to trust businesses than there is to trust the government. We need a balance between the two, achieving that balance is not an easy task.

Or you could, you know, uncheck the box that says "allow non-intrusive ads". I dunno if they still do this, but AdBlock Plus went out of its way to point this out on initial setup last couple times I installed it.
Ah, yes -- you are correct, I totally overlooked that.

"nonintrusive" my ass. I noticed this, switched from ABP to AdBlock, which oddly are apparently totally separate extensions.

Ahh, the first Nefarian kill, 1 am, after 5 hours of raiding. First alliance kill on the server. Those were the days...40 people running around in a somewhat organized dance. I miss that.

yea, I made a quasi den in the basement for the yellow lab. He freaks out and shakes, pants, etc. He finds the furthest place away in the house, which is in the corner in the basement next to washer and dryer.
I must live in a neighborhood of old fogies or something. The most I ever hear of fireworks is dull thuds. Nothing I can imagine would bother any dog despite their superior hearing.
