If there was DX10 for XP I'd be all for giving it a shot, but again only way to get DX10 is with Vista, and I'm just not ready to do that until my catalog of games are fully Vista compatible. Out of curiosity, what games are you worried about Vista compatibility with? I've got Home Premium 64-bit and all the games I've tried on it work fine. I've certainly tried nowhere near my full library though.
Actually, what's been my biggest problem with Vista has been nvidia's craptastic SLI support in their drivers. In a number of games, my framerate is significantly hurt by enabling SLI. In the previous beta driver, enabling SLI caused the display driver to stop responding every few minutes, but the latest beta driver fixes this issue.
Single card support does work acceptably if SLI is disabled, but I'm not a fan of having one card just sit there. Vista has been RTM since last November, and nvidia still can't get their drivers fully up to par. Fortunately, I've learned my lesson and my future computers will not use SLI.

"We at EA would like to thank you for your support of our games by disabling part of their functionality. While you paid for a game that included multiplayer online functionality, we did state in small print at the bottom that the online features may be "retired" after 30 days notice. We hope you will choose to upgrade to the latest version of our football/golf/hockey/basketball/racing/soccer simulations which include new jerseys/polo shirts/advertisements/decals/grass animations as well as functioning online play. Please note, the previously mentioned online play will be canceled this time next year may be retired with 30 days notice.
All of us at EA would like to thank you for your money and hope that you buy our current and future lineup so that you can continue to play online."

I know I'm judging this extremely early, but it's not exactly the most original of plots. Id, what exactly about this game makes it special? It's more outdoors than most your games?

Fact is, making such a big game so early on in the 2 platforms lives was nothing short of stupid, now they're bitching they dont know the platforms? Actually, if the rumor is true, they're bitching that the PS3 is hard to program for. I'm can't say whether the rumor is true or not, but given that the general consensus is that the PS3 is harder to program for than the 360, and given that the 360 has been out a year longer, it seems logical that if there was a version that was having problems, it would be the PS3 version.
Now as Take 2, the question is whether this is a smart move to delay both versions if only one is running behind. Their contract with Sony must have some heavy penalties if they'll give up this holiday season and take a stock hit to keep from breaking it. I'd be tempted to release both versions this fall, and then patch the PS3 version later. Given current console sales, I'd think the loss in PS3 sales due to it being unfinished would be offset by the extra 360 sales due to the holiday season.
That said, I really just don't want to have to wait until next year for GTA. If I had wanted to sit around and wait for games to come out, I would have bought a PS3.

Frankly I hate the voice chat on the 360 entirely. In my experience, 99% of the people who talk on xbox live are complete idiots I don't want to hear talking when I'm trying to enjoy a game. Instead of using voice chat for discussing strategy, it's used to tell everyone else they're n00bs who suck and that they need to learn how to play the game. It's a shame there isn't a system-wide option to disable incoming and outgoing voice chat.

And bottled water does NOT taste better than all tap water. My local water treatment plant pumps some damn fine H20. Wish I could say the same. My local tap water is among the worst I've ever had. Using ice cubes made from it produces a very noticeable bitter taste in most drinks, and the water leaves behind white mineral spotting after it dries. In fact, the water is so hard it was recently asked to star in pr0n.

The biggest class balancing problem in WoW is attempting to balance the PvE and PvP content simultaneously. They need to make it so that every spell and ability has dual functions. What it does against mobs and what it does against other players. That way they can balance one without screwing the other like the continue to do over and over again. Thank you! This is what I've been telling my friends for months now. Blizz screws up perfectly valid PvE spells/abilities because they are abused in PvP. It's not like they don't already tweak a couple spells for PvP, why not adjust them all?

A quick google didn't even turn up a website for "Parallel Processing Corporation." International Parallel Machines does have a website, and it's almost good enough to be on geocities.
IPM does seem to actually offer products for sale, so it could actually be trying to defend a patent rather than be patent squatting. As I can't find anything on PPC, I'm forced to assume it is nothing more than a front for a patent lawyer to make a quick buck. If they have an actual product, they sure aren't trying to advertise it.

The low end PCs will always suck as long as integrated graphics exist. They're all fine and well for corporate PCs, but any PC for home use that has any chance of seeing a game more technically-demanding than solitaire has no right to ship with them. PC manufacturers are more than happy to throw dual core processors and gigs of ram in the PCs they build, but God help them if they put a dedicated graphics card in anything but a "gaming PC".

While I can see how stripping out the Wifi, memory card reader, and using a smaller hard drive would save costs, if they use only software emulation as in the European model, I would think backwards compatibility wouldn't cost them a thing.
Personally, I'd rather they removed the Blu Ray drive and just used DVD, but obviously that wouldn't work at this point.

Nope, I thought the same thing. I assumed Blue stayed out of the console wars, much like a console version of Sweden.
I was surprised as well to find out that it was a 3rd person game. I could have sworn the screen shots I saw of it were from directly behind the craft, but apparently it's the drugs talking.

... an expansion I'm sure. The previous C&C expansions have been acceptable, but certainly haven't added a new dimension to the games. I expect this will be more of the same. I'll probably wait for it to be on sale for $20, unless it looks particularly good.
I should probably get around to finishing C&C 3 at some point as well.

The games for th 360 are rather generic as it were for a next-gen system. As I've said before, MS tries way too hard to carry the vaunted "HD-Gen" of gaming rather than releases containing true substance. That's a blanket statement true, and there are a few really innovative releases, but on the whole, MS hasn't managed to surpass the PS2 or the original Xbox for truly fun games. You're not the first person I've heard say that. For whatever reason, the 360 games I have I really enjoy (PGR3, Battlestations Midway, NFS:Most Wanted and Carbon, Guitar Hero 2, Gears of War, and Ghost Recon just to mention some of my favorites). There's nothing in this list that really breaks any new ground, yet they still hold my attention.
I think perhaps the HD graphics and 5.1 surround give the games that extra something previous generations lacked. There's a world of difference between playing it on a mid-sized SD screen with built in stereo speakers compared to a decent-sized HD screen in 5.1 surround (yes, this is from experience). In a game like NFS: Most Wanted, you hear the police sirens around you, and the cars zooming past; while the graphics are respectably life-like. Does this make the actual game content any better? Not really, but I'd argue it makes the games more immersive than any previous generation (and it's certainly the closest I'll get to a high-speed police chase).
As the PS3 and 360 are the only consoles that can currently provide that level of immersion, I have to compare them directly. Currently, I feel the 360 wins hands down in games actually available (and the coming months look quite strong as well). Since I already have a 360, the PS3 needs to get enough games the 360 doesn't have to convince me to buy it. Merely getting the same games is not enough.

New processors |

Wth kind of poorly written story is this? Some highlights:
Chip makers are no longer racing to have the fastest microprocessor and have shifted their focus away from building chips with a single, super-fast calculating core. Instead, to save energy and reduce heat, they're putting multiple cores on the same chip — the equivalent of several computers on the same slice of silicon. Really? I wonder which chipmakers aren't racing to have the fastest chip, because Intel and AMD sure are. And as for saving energy and reducing heat, how exactly do two (or more) cores generate less heat or use less energy than one? While the C2Duo uses less energy than, say a P4, that's because of improved manufacturing and a new chip design, not because there are two cores instead of one.
"You can imagine a scenario where people stop buying laptops and PCs because we can't figure this out," said David Patterson, a computer-architecture expert and computer science professor at the University of California, Berkeley. Yeah, I'm sure the general population is just going to stop buying PCs because MS Word doesn't take full advantage of their multicore processor. I can just hear my mom saying "you know, I was sending an email the other day, and I noticed that only one of my cores was being fully utilized by Outlook. I'm not going to buy another PC until more software uses both cores."
As processors sped up, software developers tagged along by making their programs faster and faster. Strangely, I was under the impression that faster processors ran software faster than slower processors. Apparently, it's actually the programmers that go back and tell the software to run faster.
"We'd be in uncharted territory," Patterson said. "We need to get some Manhattan Projects going here — somebody could solve this problem, and whoever solves this problem could have this gigantic advantage on everybody else." Good analogy; I can clearly see the link between a WWII project to develop the nuclear bomb to end the war, and the need to develop software that can take advantage of eight or more cores. Just imagine if the terrorists developed this technology before us!!!!!!
