Good work, blue. Bullets are your friend.

I was in the mood for chicken, but this'll do.

Fuck's sake. I'm tired of watchin' movies for this game and that game. Somebody give me the gist of them.

5. Coop is hard. And that's not sarcasm. May 12, 2004, 14:07 gerauchertes

Well shit, dude. Cut them some slack. If you're going to toss coop into any heavily scripted game, it's going to basically double (at least) the development time put into the campaign. Being as SC leans just a tad much on scripted events...yeah. Takes a bit more to account for two or more players; particularly, figuring out how to not allow anyone to get into a "wrong place, wrong time" position where they'll jack everything up.

Alternatively, you can cheat like Halo and just warp the players together whenever they stray too far apart. Or, just discard the plot and scripted elements and do like Serious Sam.

Maybe this'll be the last time the Western hemisphere hears about this, but you know it's destined to be go like quadruple-platinum in Japan.

Concerning Pandemic's ability to program a quality engine...well, check out the rundown of job openings they've got posted on their site:

  • Production: no open positions

  • Design: designer

  • Art: art director

  • Engineering: programmer, lead programmer, tools programmer, lead tools programmer, pc network programmer, pc interface compatibility programmer

  • Looks like they need a little help in that department.

    19. But I am better than them. May 6, 2004, 16:17 gerauchertes

Folk can do whatever they want with their time and money, as long as they're not fucking with anyone else, but reasonable people can agree that derelict EQ junkies are nonetheless worthy of redicule regarding their "lifestyle choice" (or could they be born that way?).

    Trust me, EQ = cheap.

Relative to various other forms of entertainment, OK, but we're not talking about hookers, skybox seating or a trip into orbit on a Russian rocket. Specifically relative to video games, there's never really been another game that's come close to costing so much. But there also aren't many games that have kept so many hooked for years, so as long as the juice still flows from the bottomless udders of Sony's hopeless fans, more power to 'em.

    7. Acronym-A-Go-Go May 6, 2004, 14:29 gerauchertes

I guess at this point the marketing team's biggest challenge is consistently naming all these things so that their initials won't be confused with one another. They almost dropped the ball early on with SoV and SoL, but it must be easier to come up with more distinct acronyms while you're rolling around in ever more mountainous piles of money. GoD: nice touch.

The solution to the problem with so many discs is to just toss them all into the trash. They won't be good for much once EQ2's come around.

They can really get away with $29.99? Take the release date MSRPs of EQ and all its expansions, top it off with $10 a month for something like (rough guess) 50 months, and you've got freaks who've paid somewhere in the vicinity of one thousand dollars for this game.

I guess, Scotty, but if you win that bet your only payoff is playing the game a week or two before I've finished with the reviews and all the commentary by (with all due respect) guinea pigs such as yourself.

Not me. I've never really regretted ditching the Xbox (didn't even bother selling it). Also didn't much mind when the motor in my PS2 took a shit. It's been sitting in a cabinet for a while. Parts of my PSX that served faithfully since its US release date have been scavanged for a bootleg tattoo rig. The only thing that still sees any use around here is the DC, but that's mostly running old LA games on DCSCUMM, which I enjoy when I'm all pilled up beyond being able to use a keyboard and in the process of passing out.

I guess that's when public opinion will have made it about clear whether this game is too far from Thief or too close to IW or otherwise just sucks/does not suck. 'Cause I ain't gonna be shittin' out cash onto nuthin' by these jokers again just based on the pedigree of the series they're allegedly following.

Maybe I'll track down that guy I gave my Xbox to and make him rent it.

Edit: Replaced "Deus Ex" with "IW" for the sake of clarity.

Technically, "post-apocalypse" is a term, not a word. But in this scenario, which apparently involves a catastrophic meteor strike and not a nuclear winter, mutant vegetation would not be an issue.

A nuke war might have actually made as much sense, though. Photos of the area surrounding Chernobyl would seem to indicate that foliage can survive in areas of high radiation where humans cannot (or at least ought not to). I guess the answer to how long it would take for vegetation to bounce back is however long the sun is obscured by dust or whatever.

So, to answer your "Why, why, why!?" question - it's because the COD developers do their homework.

Ah ha! No, my friend. You yourself have pointed out that the British had abandoned the combat use of their B-17s, and daylight raids altogether, before 1942. However, CoD takes place in the latter half of 1944, long after the RAF had dedicated its heavy bombers solely to night attack duties. The handful of obsolete RAF Fortresses had been entirely replaced by British designs such as the Halifax and Lancaster.

Additionally, there can be no explanation for the USAAF squadron markings (specifically the paint job on the vertical stabilizers) on aircraft flying under the insignia of the Royal Air Force. Missing are the black and white identifying stripes on the fuselage and wings which all Allied aircraft in the European theater wore from just prior to D-Day until the war's end.

Furthermore, all B-17s provided to the RAF under the lend-lease program were, as stated, B-17Cs. By 1944, none of this variant were in combat service under any flag, and the screenshots shown clearly depict B-17E or F variants (B-17C did not feature the characteristic ventral ball turret or a tailgunner position; these were not introduced until the E model).

Clearly, the CoD team has not, in fact, done its homework.

That's right, my head is crammed with useless knowledge. Edit: And Gray Matter ought to pay me to keep their shit in line.

Am I the only one pessimistic about LFilm's marketing director also being LArt's president? I guess as long as he doesn't confuse his advertising duties with game design...nyah. Bury LA, it's dead.

Maybe the apocalypse doesn't happen for a while yet. You know, until all this futuristic shit has had a chance to be invented. Whatever. At least not everyone feels compelled to anchor a game squarely within reality.
