No way! Stats are half the fun! Just ignore the cheaters and keep plugging away!
Stats are not gameplay. This is working. People only like that, because they are victims of purposly implemented addictive reward mechanisms, which have replaced actual gameplay in most modern games.

Some of them may hate DRM, yes.

Some other customers aka emotional addicts will do whatever you say. You can rape them and they still thank you for your kindness, when you give them an old rag that they can clean themselves up. THATS the people you should cherish as your customers.

Whats so bad about this? I always want to build myself a castle to LARP in. Garriott can chainmail all day if he wants.

My guess main gripe is there's no compare feature for items.
What about the red and green numbers on the bottom of the screen, signaling worse or better stats in comparison to the eqipped item?

Yes, the UI is just horrible. I mean, really bad, even for Bethsoft.
The UI is better used with a pad or only the keyboard. Mouse support seems like an afterthought. The interface and menus are looking better than the clunky crap from Oblivion, but dont try using the mouse. Horrible!

A good procedural game would be a first (besides DF). That kind of innovation is sorely lacking in gaming today, for the last few years it's just been graphics and casualisation innovations.
There was Hellgate: London.
I believe the wording he used was good procedural game
Hellgate was very entertaining at times, when you were in specific mood, or drunk, or both.

Does this count?

Erm... they release daily patches - so wtf are you talking about. They tweak and fix the game constantly.
Maybe they shoud have done this BEFORE releasing a game? Or they should have made it clear, that you buy an early beta? Like Notch does with Minecraft?

The publishers are losing a lot of purchases with always on DRM.
We dont know for sure. Ubisofts 90% drop in PC sales might be a hint, but we sadly lack hard and solid data.

It is a shame that Blizzard chose to go that direction because I would have bought Diablo III. As it stands now I have tons of games to play without supporting always on DRM.
Blizzard will survive, because Diablo 3 is not some handydandy Ass Creed. Its Diablo 3. People will sell their children into slavery to play this game.

But will these games be playable in, lets say, ten years? Or twenty years from now? Can a always-on game become a classic when there is no possibility to play it after the publisher vanishes? DRM might be tolerable for selling games, but its a definitive Cultural Black Hole. When a creative work is no longer watchable, readable, viewable or playable, people will forget.

Having multiplayer be the main draw of the game such as with cd keys or something like steam accounts (or blizzard with star craft) is one great way to have a "carrot" instead of a "stick".
If a multiplayer game is popular enough, there will be in-official servers and/or LAN-emulators. Heck, even MMOs are being "pirated" through freeshards.

So as a result, IMHO, its far better to use carrot than stick, and have limited DRM such as steam. Most other measures are useless beyond screwing and annoying legitimate customers.
Of course the carrot works better than the stick when it comes to video games. Video games arent a necessity of life, there are nothing more than luxury. You cannot force someone to pay for something he doesnt need to exist. You will NOT get more revenue by trying to force people into paying. Ubisoft is actually learning this the hard way with their 90% reduction of PC sales after the introduction of Ubi-DRM.

Learn to live with "piracy", learn to make attractive games, care for your customer and dont spend ressources on people who wont give you their money anyway.

What needs to happen is bring to the PC the same level of piracy control found on consoles.
I'm with you mate. It has to happen.
There is another way. Stop releasing games on the PC. No games, no piracy! No? Still enough money to be made on the PC platform? Then just stop worrying about things you cant stop or prevent. Stop worrying about things you dont even have a proof that they are damaging your sales.

Bugs aside ... its the same game over and over again. If you have a patched Stronghold 2, there is no need for Stronghold 3. Heck, S3 even looks the same than S2. Same textures, same models, same water shaders. And paying 40-50 bucks for a slightly modified interface?

*goes back, playing Stronghold 1*

The easy response to that is that some of the best games in history are text based.
THE best game in history isn't even digital.

And yes, isometric & turn-based is a no-go for games produced by major publishers, because isometric isn't 3D and turn-based is not fast enough for the shooter crowd. Sadly, the Syndicate IP belongs to EA and not some nifty little indie dev, who doesn't care what the biggest demographic target group seems to want or not want.
