I had the complete opposite experience. Worked right out of the box, controls were fine with either keyboard or gamepad, performance was great, and I didn't hit any big bugs. Great game, just needed more fleshing out.
I agree on the technical side. Prototype was a solid, straight working PC port.

But the game itself was so boooooooring, so full of adolescent "I am teh ubercool killing machine, wohoo" crap! Not my cup of tea

Always astounds me that people make stuff like this (which is revolutionary awesome) but then don't make it an actual unique own project but just rip-off someone else's art to finish it quickly...
People have different talents and interests. This is not a game project, this is a technical show case to show his programming talents.

As a game artist I find this deplorable, even if he had no graphics skills, there is free sprite sets - this demo did NOT need CNC art-assets.
No, it doesn't NEED them. But it doesn't hurt anyone either besides some crappy intellactual property laws, made for the 20th century.

It starts with psychology. There are so many dumbshits thinking they know how to rule the world when they cant even rule their own minds. Their instinctual territorial impulses have grown far beyond the amount of piss they can muster up to mark it, even while the biological basis for language goes unrecognized by their "intellect".

Unfortunately the vast majority of people (including the super rich assholes) are living far beyond their means when it comes to actual intelligence. Its why everyone spends so much time and energy on blaming the conspiracy theories, the illuminati, the masons, the reptilians, the church, the gubment, the liberals, the republicans, the commies, the socialists, the tea party, the niggers, the jews, the faggots, etc. etc. - because even if its bullshit, at least its something you can point your finger at.. unlike the actual truth, where nobody is actually in control, and the forces at work are incomprehensible (at best) to the average person.

Its impossible for such a conglomerate of various disparate and utterly mindless mechanical processes to drop its own facade of "personality", because that is the binding agency which allows it continued function. If people actually experienced the "truth" of their own condition, their "sanity" would be ripped apart at the seams. Of course, that "sanity" is all an illusion to begin with, but at least its comfortable, safe, and familiar. Plenty of people will agree with your "sanity", because it is in their best interest as well. There is no lack of people willing to play that game, where people "know" themselves.
Hear, hear.

While I do miss WOW, I miss what it was, and not what it is now, or what MOP will bring to the table.
One day Blizzard will offer unaltered classic servers.

"What you're doing today?"
"I'm going to this NPC on the other side of the world"
"And then?"
"Then? Thats all i can do today! The day has only 24 hours!"

No, really. Classic servers will come when WoW slowly drifts into F2P and Activision wants Blizzard to milk the cow a little bit more.

Advertising agencies are deluded.
Advertising agencies who still believe that ingame advertising is TEH NEW SHIT! As i said, MS sold Massive, their own ingame advertising branch, two years ago because ingame advertising is not working as intended. Potential advertisers are weary because ad reception ingame is very, very low. Much lower than in other media. Prices dropped, estimated income figures had to be drastically corrected downwards.

Nowadays, ingame advertising is a nice little additional income for the publishers, but not the major business model it was supposed to be a few years ago.

Why do you think blizzard made the game free now for up to level 20? Previously they only had time limited game trials.
Which had a level block at 20. They just removed the time restrains. And considering how MUCH faster you progress nowadays, there isn't much sense in a time limited trial anymore. Blizzard made only cosmetic changes to clear up the trial offer, they do not offer MORE game content for free.

Btw. i had a good time with WoW, even with all the changes. But i didnt prolonge my WoW subscription last year. I need a long absence from this game. I need to forget how to play WoW that i can re-discover it

The subscription numbers have started dropping.
Most other MMOs would be glad to have the numbers WoW lost as an active player base. WoW ist still THE leading MMO, lightyears ahead of the rest. Blizzard has to act, sure, but they are in no need to hurry.

There is a reason Microsoft sold Massive, their in-game advertising unit, nearly two years ago. In-game advertising is not THAT profitable than expected. Studies showed that gamers do not perceive the advertising, that they can hardly remember any advertising after the game. Potential advertisers lost interest, this once booming market has become a minor revenue stream.

The movement control is especially responsive and well implemented.
That is nice. A gamepad movement which doesnt feel sluggish, crappy and slow. What an achievement to gaming history! We've gone full circle and are now standing at exactly that point ten years ago before devs were forced to make only console games for the dumb masses.

Anonymous attacks on Whitehouse.gov? That's smart!
Sadly they only attack the website, not the real building.

If they would do that, the USA would start a war on nearly everyone, bancrupting itself in the process finally for good and the rest of the world can go on.

I never understood the F2P model for MMOs.
It's easy. Lure the player into spending much, MUCH more money in the games item shop, than he is willing to pay for a subscription fee.

eunichron wrote on Jan 18, 2012, 03:43:
Until someone thinks of a better model for MMOs, one that is profitable and doesn't give players 1/4 of the experience, "F2P" in this genre will always be synonymous with failure.
There a quite a few F2P-But-P2W-MMOs which make a good fortune. This business model may be a long-term failure for the stupid and naive gamer, but its a proven and sucessful business scheme.

They've already made insinuations that they're going to leave the PC industry
They didn't. Ubisoft has the highest percentage of PC-only titles of all major publishers. They make good money on these franchises (HoMM, Settlers, Anno), production has already started for Settlers 8.

All this bullshit about THE GREAT THREAT named piracy and their DRM scheme to counter that made-up threat was and is aimed at the investors after Ubisoft had some rough quarters two or three years ago.
