A rushed, console port with no PC advantages...who would want that? Well in this case it's the only chance somebody without a PS3 is going to have to play the game. Have you never used an emulator to play a game for a system you don't own? I've experienced plenty of games that way. Sure. But why would someone buy (!) a rushed console port with no PC advantages for full retail price? This seems to be a candidate for future Steam sale around five bucks or less. Or to download the warez version just for 30 minutes of "experience".
But at least the devs were honest. I appreciate that. Isnt' very common in this business. |

Basically if you have a good marketing campaign with some good CGI and the full weight of a Star Wars licence behind you you can sell 1 million pre-orders without breaking a sweat! Its paradoxical, but it also happens to be true. Why do you think so many developers get away with basically taking a huge fucking dump in a retail box and still make a buck??? It can also work the other way around, making a good game, selling it to break even and then letting the game's quality do all the marketing work for you. I couldn't agree more But top managers of major publishers, especially managers at LucasArts, don't think that way because they are not forced to do so. Business still works that classical Triple A retail way. |

Three years ago i really wanted to have an ATI card after NVidia shafted me with their product policy regarding mainboards. And because ATI cards are WAY better hardware.
After a month of trying out several driver versions i was forced to trade my ATI card in for a NVidia card, to get my games in working order again. ATI makes excellent hardware, i still want to have one. But their drivers are crap, utter crap compared to Nvidia. There i have only minor issues with for example aspect ratio settings in some releases. But all games work perfectly as they should. No graphical errors at all, no startup problems. |

I have heard many things of Zynga games like Farmville, but boy, do i have no interest in playing this kind of game at all.
That said ... to get the money of LucasArts newest target group, you have to rape and twist Tie Fighter into a simple action-arcade game. |

edit: ah yes, look at that. Completely missed that or don't care enough to remember. Try it. The addon is way better than the main game. Better gameplay flow. Less boring and predictable "horror" moments, better timing and scripting. |

Hmmm, you might be right ... |

Lord Tea wrote on May 29, 2012, 03:16: Also: if that was the case every copy of D3 would stop working the minute Blizzard decided to drop support for D3 (e.g. because they go out of business for what reason ever). No data-streaming server, no game! So cool! Blizzard has no interest in culture or society. They dont care if you can play D3 in 20 years or not. They make D3 to make millions of bucks NOW. They make games for people who see in games nothing more than a short distraction from every day life.
Which is ok. I find it very amusing that these kind if games will vanish from history. Nobody will talk about D3 in 20, 30 years. They will talk about Diablo 1 or 2. They will talk about other Diablo clones. But D3 will be forgotten, only known to some experts in gaming history. |

Yepp. Because the graphical progress is slowing down so much, most people need captions to distinguish DX9 to DX10 to DX11 screenshots. Yes, there is progress. But it's only in details. Details only people can recognize who have the knowledge.
As someone in the idustry has said a few months ago, concerning the upcoming console generation: Graphics are good enough for most people. Graphic is no longer the motor that drives sales, the main factor people buy a game. If it were otherwise the rise of the indies had not happened. |

This crap however is only your standard browser building game, where you are forced to buy points/ressources/whatever to play the game without waiting for days just to have enough ressources to buy one advanced building or one advanced unit. The C&C universe is just a setting, nothing more. The same game was called "Lords of Ultima", where EA slaughtered the Ultima brand for the exact same boring building/waiting gameplay. |

theyarecomingforyou wrote on May 17, 2012, 03:50: What the hell did they spend money on to lose $75m? Big names require big paychecks. RA Salvatore doesnt come cheap, even if he does some very cheap work on KoA. And having much money to begin with leads to spending too much money on unimportant stuff, spending too much money on management, spending too much money on creating assets with no or little importance to the game itself.
Why are indie games often more fun than their triple A brethrens the majors churn out? Because their creators dont have much money, so that every pixel, every game mechanic, every bit has to count. Look at Grimrock. This game has only a limited set of sounds and textures, a limited set of features, but EVERYTHING helps perfectly in creating a fun and engaging game.
Budget limitations are good for creativity |
