This game sucks! Happy now?

No, seriously, have fun! If you like it, you like it.

Microsoft has given consumers no reason to upgrade to Windows 10.
Microsoft has burned more bridges with Windows 8 and its stupid forcing of Metro than with Vistas shoddy release. Which is a bit sad, because from a purely technical point of view, W8 is quite nice.

Heck, outside the gaming world there are even more people still using XP than Windows 8 & 8.1

This is what pisses me off about the "media/news". It's gone from reporting the news and facts, to pushing a one-sided narrative.
Dont follow an illusion. Media was ALWAYS about taking sides and pushing a narrative. There never was "only" a reporting of facts.

The key lies in creating a vast array of media outlets with several opinions and narratives. Viewing something from different angles, so that you, the reader, can read about every aspect a "thing" can have.

setting the standard for physics based gameplay?

Painkiller preceded HL2 by 8 months with full "next gen" physics.
Setting standards for a feature != was the first with this feature

Way more impressive than the graphical update are the optional "developer" comments. Even a seasoned Half-Life veteran can learn something new listenig to them.

erm ... this is new? The online version of Securom, first used in Bioshock, did this too. It monitored hardware changes, triggered a new call to the auth server until all your activations with a certain key had been used up.

And yeah, he who buys EA, has to suffer EA. No pity!

Yes, the poor, poor gaming industry. Barely managed to survive with their yearly two digit growth rates and record profits, until they became bigger than the music industry. Oh, how they suffered!

But what exactly has Valve been doing for the past 5 years?
- Expanding Steam with new features, a new data structure and more content servers around the globe for better, faster updates and content delivery.

- Left 4 Dead 2

- SteamOS

- Steam Controller

- Steam Switch

- and many experimental project, including VR concepts and game
concepts like "Prospero"

Considering that Valve is not a big company, its not like they did nothing ...

If Valve says they're working on it, then the somewhat quiet rumblings of "are you working on it?" which is one question every so often, becomes a constant deluge of "what is it?!" "when is it?!" "is Alyx back?!" "where does it take place?!" "when are you revealing more?" "will you be showing it at PAX?"
There are jobs, specialising in dealing and communicating with current or potential customers. You might heard of them. This is no witchcraft. Nobody gets hurt.

If Valve says they aren't working on it, it's "why aren't you working on it?" "were you working on it?" "can you show what you worked on?" "why didn't it work?"
What is wrong with "It didnt work out because ..." or "Here, some examples of art work and design documents.". Or even "Hey, we will not work on that anymore, but you might. Here are some pointers, what we wanted to do. If you want to make/mod a HL3, we will encourage that."?

Making Half Life: Episode 3 would have been dumb. Why make another "Episode" when the first two "Episodes" looked and played exactly the same? Why?
To complete the story? To provide the same level of high quality shooter gameplay?

I'm thinking Valve thinks of Half-Life 3 as a carrot way to valuable to waste as a mere game.
But ... the longer they wait the less nutritous this carrot becomes. Its already a little bit stale and wrinkly.

Can you actually waive your rights away in EU like that? Don't we have some people with legal training that can tell us on these boards?
You actually can. Valve follows the law to the letter. You, the customer, have the right to return your purchase within 14 days. But ... the shop you bought something from, has the right to inform you BEFORE the purchase, that this right is invalidated, when you want to buy something from them.

They dont NEED to be published by Paradox. Paradox distributes the retail version. Which is something Obsidian clearly cannot do. Like Namco had only retail distribution rights for Witcher 2.

That would be awesome.
May be it would. But it will be NO LONGER have anything to do with "Descent".

If someone wants to make a new "Descent" game, it should be at the core an action game about flying through confined spaces and shooting stuff to smithereens. This central gameplay mechanic can be enhanced by other elements, but not replaced. So, not the other way around, some other genre mechanics with a few action elements tacked on and named Descent, because someone spend money on aquiring the licence.

Descent without single player is not Descent IMO.
I too am not interested in a MP only game, but in defense of this Kickstarter project ... Descent still has a strong and loyal MP fanbase, supporting projects like D2X-XL and other ports, introducing MP via Internet and such.

Kinda feel like their numbers for the F2P games must be completely broken, though. I've never even heard of most of the games they list.
Your knowledge of these games is not relevant
For years i thought WoW was the biggest MMO in the world until i learned of Runescape, which dwarfed everything i knew about MMOs.
