CS:S is a huge downside, had Valve also provided HL2M it would have a better chance of lasting.

I can't believe what i'm hearing, CS:S is a downside?- even some of the reviews reflected this. Maybe it's because I've been playing CS since the day it came out, but I honestly think it's one of the greatest games ever made.

I can also see why people get frustrated by it... I just started playing after a two year hiatus and my skills REALLY depleated. I went from being one of those 32-2 guys to a 3-25 guy. The only map I recognize so far is Dust.

There's just too many 14 year olds that live by that game.

1. Forget this, just order through stardock Nov 12, 2004, 13:11 BIGtrouble77

Funny this has been delayed so long that it's finally getting released just before GalCiv2's open beta.

I'm starting to really take to online distribution like stardock central and steam. I actually just installed steam the other day for the first time and am really amazed how seamless and stable it is. I download CS Source and preloaded HL2 in a matter of a few hours.

Granted, I hate the fact that it automatically pushes files, so I just don't leave it running all the time.

so do guys find the game to be playable and easy to understand? i am really looking forward to it, though the gamespy review raised some worrying points. they claim it lacks focus and that it is difficult to know what your goals are and where to focus your attention. they also said the interface is inadequate and difficult to navigate. they had a lot of good to say about it as well, but seemed to think it had too many flaws to be truly enjoyable... what is your take on this?

As far as not knowing what to do... The manual kinda goes over this. Plus there's several longish tutorials so i didn't get that impression. With that said I know a decent amount about egyptology so I kind of understand what the developers are going for.

I still haven't gotten to play it a whole lot, just made it through most of the tutorials but it seems pretty fun. The interface really didn't seem that bad to me.

I posted on these boards a few days back about how I hated the name. I picked it up anyway over the weekend. Honestly, the interface isn't that bad. I can easily get to everything I need, albeit I haven't gotten very far yet.

The only problem i have with the interface is that the graphics aren't very clean and sharp. It's more of a stylistic issue. I just prefer bland utilitarian interfaces that are easy to navigate.

I also want to mention that this game supports non-standard resolutions. The developers deserve a lot of credit for this capability as I can play the game at my laptop's native resoltion (1680x1050).

So far it's pretty fun. I have a feeling it's gonna get really good when my city gets a lot larger.

Going from my Audigy to an M-Audio Delta 1010lt was like going from AOL to a Cable modem Internet wonderland.

I can't believe Creative hasn't gotten a clue yet and redesigned their audio apps.

A company can legitimately patent international electronic transactions??? The sad thing is we find this stuff funny, but I'm sure it's a hardship for most companies to defend against this crap.

Dude, aren't you supposed to boost your cooking skills and buy better appliances so that food is more effective?

To a degree, yes. But... If I call out for a pizza I still have to eat a bout 3-4 servings to fill-up. Some of my sims have pretty good cooking skills, but I have yet to sit down to a meal and completely fill up my hunger meter without going for seconds and thirds.

I only have one issue with the game... Make food more effective!!! I have to eat 3-4 times in a row to max out nourishment. Plus, a sim should not die if food goes down to nothing. They should get sick or something. As it stands, they live longer if they catch on fire.

It was actually called 'Football Pro '99' at that point. Sales were waaaay down before that game was recalled. I was actually a part of that F'd up customer beta test.

All they had to do was go with someone else's 3d engine rather than try to develop their own from scratch. I think they were banking on that game saving Sierra sports- so it was a really quick death.

I'm not sure what to think about EA basically owning the game industry. I was pissed that they put sierra sports out-of-business (cause I loved the sim features), but it doesn't look like they're out to influence the games that they sell too much.

Maxis has been doing pretty well under EA. I guess Origin is an example of a great company going waaaay south after EA acquired them.

One thing I do know is that competition is a good thing and it appears that UBI soft may be their only other major competitor after this- which isn't good.

More recently they said in interviews that Strategy First was having serious financial problems which caused Altarian Prophecy's delay in stores. They noted that it would most likely be released in this form.

It's really a great game, I hope galciv2 turns out to be a success too.

never actually caught it up here, but since it was well received on this site, and a few others have mentioned it to me, I may take a chance with the 'blind buy'... I have a fondness for good westerns.

It's worth it on DVD being that it's one of those series that you have to really watch every episode to get immersed. If you just watch one episode it'd be the same thing as trying to figure a guy like howard stern from one broadcast.

Took them long enough to release this. Unless it's $19 you're better off downloading it directly from stardock.

I need the ram for 3dsmax and maya projects- not for games.

Sims2 is just too funny. My goal is to get Jeeves to father over 20 b*stard kids, I know I'm sick. Only thing I hate is that you have to eat 3-4 meals to max out the hunger bar which is such a pain in the ass. One meal should be enough. And if you let that meter go down to nothing your sim dies, which sucks.

I picked up a copy of Pharoah a couple months ago but never got around to installing it.

I just bought a Hypersonic AX7 laptop completely decked out with 2gigs of ram an Athlon 64 3400+, radeon 9700, dual layer burner... I just hope my games will support the 16x9 aspect ratio.

I snagged a Geforce6800GT when it came out and only use it for the Sims2 so far. Doom3 totally bores me. I played it the first day and haven't touched it since.

I agree, I sooo sick of playing games that have linear storylines. I need to have something to show for my hours of wasted productivity- like a huge virtual egyptian empire complete with slaves and multiple wives. They really knew how to live it up back then;)
