News Comments > Age of Pirates Revealed
10. Re: what i learned today Dec 20, 2004, 15:08 BIGtrouble77

Now that I think about it, I think Age of Empires was first.

Age of Sail, 1996.

Age of Empires, 1997.

That's what mobygames says, anyway.

Sweet, I was right. Well, at least my first stab at it was.

Newest bandwagon scince WW2 and Vietnam.

Age of (insert any thing you can think of that will sell your game faster)

In all fairness to Akella, I think they started the phenominon with Age of Sail.

Pirates of the burning sea, actually (http://www.burningsea.com/).

It looks preyy impressive, visually at least. Nvidia featured some of burning sea on their site at one point.

Interestingly, Akella modeled most of the ships for burning sea, so I wonder if any of those ships will show up in Age of Pirates.

I agree completely with Creston. With that said, I'm never buying another EA game. Unfortunately for EA I'm good at sticking to my guns.

I think it's up to consumers to let EA know how they feel now and stop buying their games. It's easy enough to mosey on over to suprnova.

News Comments > Tortuga - Pirate's Revenge Announced
2. Re: No subject Dec 7, 2004, 18:03 BIGtrouble77

In ascaron's defence, they've pretty much been specializing in Pirate themes games for several years now. Started with the Patrician trilogy then Port Royale 1, Tortuga (Pirate Hunter), Port Royale 2, and now Tortuga 2.

I'm not sure what to think about this one, as it seems like they are copying the Sid Meier format once again. The problem is all their games have a weird german flair that aren't well suited for carribean adventures.

1. Sold Civilization??? Nov 24, 2004, 09:52 BIGtrouble77

And they didn't say who they sold it to? I wonder if that means Firaxis no longer has the rights to develop sequels, or that they'll just have a new distributer. I'm suprised this revelation occupied so little content in the article.

Atari must have been REALLY despirate for cash.

If you want speed then use Opera ( http://www.opera.com ).

The newest beta renders pages at least 2x as fast as IE. The only issues with it are the add banner(if you don't pay), messy skin out-of-the-box, and rather poor java script support.

Other than that it's phenominal, there's so many feature that you'd spend months discovering them all.

44. Ships Ahoy? Nov 22, 2004, 21:54 BIGtrouble77

I always run out to get these games after the Ships Ahoy announcement here on Blue's, but the damn games are never in the stores.

Took a ride out to EB and Gamestop, both of which will be getting it tomorrow...When will I learn to call in advance?

Read some of the reviews, much has changed but the basic gameplay has stayed the same.

I concur 100% with nighthawk. I'm sure most kids on this site hadn't even been potty trained when this game came out.

It's gonna be interesting seeing the reactions to this.

Americans are so used to playing games where we massacure people from other cultures- I'm sure the vietnamese, koreans, germans, japanese, russians, etc, feel they are the good guys.

I have a funny feeling we're not gonna be able to take what we've been dishing out for so long.

Number 11 is not buying studio monitors.

Is that saying studio monitors are good or bad??? I've considered hooking them up to my system, but I didn't think they'd get loud enough before distorting.

CS:S is a huge downside, had Valve also provided HL2M it would have a better chance of lasting.

I can't believe what i'm hearing, CS:S is a downside?- even some of the reviews reflected this. Maybe it's because I've been playing CS since the day it came out, but I honestly think it's one of the greatest games ever made.

I can also see why people get frustrated by it... I just started playing after a two year hiatus and my skills REALLY depleated. I went from being one of those 32-2 guys to a 3-25 guy. The only map I recognize so far is Dust.

There's just too many 14 year olds that live by that game.

News Comments > Ships Ahoy - GalCiv Altarian Prophecy
1. Forget this, just order through stardock Nov 12, 2004, 13:11 BIGtrouble77

Funny this has been delayed so long that it's finally getting released just before GalCiv2's open beta.

I'm starting to really take to online distribution like stardock central and steam. I actually just installed steam the other day for the first time and am really amazed how seamless and stable it is. I download CS Source and preloaded HL2 in a matter of a few hours.

Granted, I hate the fact that it automatically pushes files, so I just don't leave it running all the time.

7. Re: Well Nov 9, 2004, 23:14 BIGtrouble77

so do guys find the game to be playable and easy to understand? i am really looking forward to it, though the gamespy review raised some worrying points. they claim it lacks focus and that it is difficult to know what your goals are and where to focus your attention. they also said the interface is inadequate and difficult to navigate. they had a lot of good to say about it as well, but seemed to think it had too many flaws to be truly enjoyable... what is your take on this?

As far as not knowing what to do... The manual kinda goes over this. Plus there's several longish tutorials so i didn't get that impression. With that said I know a decent amount about egyptology so I kind of understand what the developers are going for.

I still haven't gotten to play it a whole lot, just made it through most of the tutorials but it seems pretty fun. The interface really didn't seem that bad to me.

I posted on these boards a few days back about how I hated the name. I picked it up anyway over the weekend. Honestly, the interface isn't that bad. I can easily get to everything I need, albeit I haven't gotten very far yet.

The only problem i have with the interface is that the graphics aren't very clean and sharp. It's more of a stylistic issue. I just prefer bland utilitarian interfaces that are easy to navigate.

I also want to mention that this game supports non-standard resolutions. The developers deserve a lot of credit for this capability as I can play the game at my laptop's native resoltion (1680x1050).

So far it's pretty fun. I have a feeling it's gonna get really good when my city gets a lot larger.

Going from my Audigy to an M-Audio Delta 1010lt was like going from AOL to a Cable modem Internet wonderland.

I can't believe Creative hasn't gotten a clue yet and redesigned their audio apps.

A company can legitimately patent international electronic transactions??? The sad thing is we find this stuff funny, but I'm sure it's a hardship for most companies to defend against this crap.
