On topic with Gib, everyone I have ever played quake with has said it with a hard g, so that is how I pronounce it. I'd be willing to bet that while Carmack says it is a j sound, others within iD say it differently. So I chalk it up to dialect differences.

I'm guessing that everyone there pronounces it the way Carmack does. On a similar topic, it's id, not iD (nor ID Id, or i.d.).

As for pwn, I think it indeed should be pronounced the same as own, as it is meant as a goof on the common typo. I and friends sometimes pronounce it powned, but this is meant as a verbal way of expressing the same joke.

What Lucas "fixed" weren't problems.

Han shot first, goddamnit!

I think that's the point he was making, which is why he related it to the sentence that followed:

"Isn't that a little bit like George Lucas going back and fixing all those problems with Star Wars? Maybe the game really needs to be what it is back then."

How much $$$ is left in that cash cow? Unless Lucas builds a life-size Death Star in orbit around the Moon and runs it like a resort hotel, its time to let it rest.

That's no moon...

Lol- did Blues clear their username database at some point? I've been a reader for about 10 years but rarely comment. Tried to log in today and found all my info had been wiped since I last commented (probably about 2 years ago).

Just noticed this. Nope, no data wipes here. Bits are cheap.

Also, which of the three did Brenda sleep with to get that job?

I'm torn over whether this should be dignified with an answer, but Brenda actually is currently in a relationship with John. I think it needs to be said that your comment seems unfair, as she has more than enough game development credibility to warrant working in any number of studios.

Yeah, it was called Frontier: First Encounters, but Braben had no involvement in it.

In other words, you got 92% correct.

I thought I'd do even worse, I am as terrible with faces as I am good with voices.

Yeah, I don't understand the lack of her at Blue's house, either. Hell, I'd watch her in an infomercial.

I have no problem with Anne, I find her delightful (though I'm irritated she never calls me).

As I said, it's MrsBlue who takes issue with her. I called this arbitrary, though this is not as capricious as some of her celebrity prejudices, as it's actually based on feeling Hathaway knew more about her scammy boyfriend than she let on (though I don't think that's based on anything in particular).

But hey, anything that keeps the Oscars off the TV is fine with me.

They recently did some tinkering that impedes online play for free clients. This does not impact servers on your favorites list, so we have added a favorite link to the sidebar to facilitate this:

tmtp://#addfavourite=bluesnewsdotcom

Hopefully that will do the trick!

Edit: And who is the voice actor doing the narration here? Sounds so familiar and I'm usually very good distinguishing the voice actor but I cannot place this guy.

Sounds like Max Von Sydow.

Edit: Just Googled it, and it's indeed him (and an excellent choice, too). Recognizing familiar voices is one of my best useless talents, though it only works with male voices (and MrsBlue can only do it with female voices).

even still the idea is stupid, and if it even takes off i'll eat my hat.

if it was direct neural smell simulation that would work - like virtual reality.. but hey thats like 100 years away.

As the article notes, the device is called the "ScentScape." Smell-O-Vision was my joke. Though I was tempted to go with Professor Farnsworth's Smelloscope.
