Dude you have gone from ADSL to Fibre, inexplicable? .... really?

I went from a 30 Mbps cable modem with a 6 ms ping to a 50 Mbps FiOS connection (still waiting on the 75 Mbps provisioning) with a 6 ms ping. I don't think I was crazy in thinking there would be no perceptible difference in loading websites.

I think you need to shop around. Pastrami isn't some kind of wonky exotic meat prep method, it's just brining and smoking. I've mentioned here how a local mart carries turkey pastrami at $5/pound that is damn good. I just wouldn't put a whole pound of it on one sandwich. That's just stupid.

This is another instance of cultural divide in food, something metro residents are famous for promoting. Talk to anyone from NYC and they'll insist there's no such thing as pizza outside the NY state line.

The makeup of the local water goes a long way towards how some foods taste. There is obviously pizza outside of New York, but there's a general acceptance that it doesn't taste the same the farther you go from the area.

Preparing pastrami is not unlike BBQ, it varies from place to place, and people have their preferences. Many are fine with supermarket pastrami just as they are fine with prepackaged supermarket barbecued ribs, and I don't see any reason to look down on that. Likewise, I see no reason for reverse snobbery in favor of grocery food.

Can't remember the last time I used a deli, I just get sandwich meats from the grocer and make my own. Doesn't take a chef to make a deli sandwich.

No, but it takes a deli to make proper Pastrami.

No trade in or battery replacement?

Ahh, I recently got an APC Back-UPS XS 1500 (model: BX1500G; 865 watts). I am addicted to its on screen status like its real-time power watts (reminds me of KITT)!

I think we have the same models.

Can't stand Bobby Flay, or any of the Food Network chefs (now that Alton Brown is gone).

I don't think he's gone, they just ended production of Good Eats, which I will miss terribly, but since it was a reference series rather than a weekly recipe show, I can understand the decision to end it rather than starting to re-hash old topics or drift into more and more obscurity.

I do hope they now find something to do with him on that network that's better than just being a game show host.

Best unknown cooking show on TV: Bitchin' Kitchen.

Surprised and disappointed at the spam outburst from a long-time member, Hoop. Regrettably, a repeat will force a permanent ban.

Cosell was awesome.

And here I believed I was one of the only people who thought that. Seems like everyone I know hated him. :/

Here are my opinions on some of the announcers being discussed here:

Loved Cosell. Love Marv Albert. Hate Joe Buck. Used to like Tim McCarver when he began doing Mets games, but before long his attention to detail gave way to pedantry. He's become positively tedious.

In any case, I can definitely tell you guys have your own little world and anyone that doesn't hold your views isn't welcome. Sounds like tolerance to me.( Coughing ) So go ahead and ban me then fucking hypocrite.

There's a simple rule against slurs because they are inflammatory: If you run afoul of that it's not because I'm a hypocrite. And you even pretending you occupy some sort of intellectual high ground here should have you more embarrassed than the churlish behavior you are attempting to justify.

What are the odds that the deli you (the general you) go to in New York makes its own Pastrami?

I would suspect now that most places just purchase their Pastrami from some distributor; and there is nothing special about most of Pastrami in New York delis.

I'll ask the next time I'm there. I'm guessing you're wrong, but I can't say for sure.

Hey Blue when you get a chance can ya check my Avatar, I changed it to the Arrow, which was fine and tried to change it again to something else, and it reverted back to the arrow. Had it under 10kb and 64x64.

Weird. I think there may be a bug in there somewhere. Is the avatar there now the correct one?

Yeah, he's a pretty tough dude. OTOH, he had a terrible game with drops and penalties, so he seemed like a liability out there.
