Halsy, you are most correct. Good post. Let me say this too...

It's NOT a matter of believing in evolution, it's matter of knowing the facts.

Let me guess, this was programmed by a bunch of republican chimps? Does human life have no value? I can hear the developer now... "Yesss here's a game about slaughtering arabs, go have fun!" Good games depersonalize the enemy, or make it a group of generic evil-doers. I say, fuck "freedom" mongers who drive gigantic oil-sucking pickups and have support the troops plastered everywhere. They'll be the ones buying this sort of game.

Razor, NYT is FAR superior to CNN in terms of its professionalism, writing, its breadth, and overall quality. CNN is for TV, NYT is for journalism.

Somehow I'm not suprised at Wal Mart's actions. Too bad I don't have a giant laser to blast their crappy stores off the face of the earth : ) I've gone to the one here in town a couple times to find things like watch batteries, and the clientele are always the trashiest denizens imaginable... Yuck.

Yes, steam is a great program! Slim, fast, efficient... I've grown to love it, even though at first it was thorny to say the least.

Of course science cannot prove Christianity right or wrong, but what it *can* do is devestate notions about our centrality in things. When you realize that we evolved on a gradual, non-linear path to our present state, and that we are not (as early Christians would tell you) the center of the universe. We aren't even the center of the Milky way, we reside in the "backwaters" so to speak. There is NOTHING to suggest that we are different from other life other than our remarkable evolved language, culture, and intelligence. For Christianity to be philosophically or intelligently feasible we *have* to be "created in the image of God." There is no getting around this. To suggest that God sent his son to redeem all the supposed sins of humanity, and that we are his children and so forth, is to spit on the marvelous collection of knowledge that science has given us. It is wonderfully humbling to realize one's place, and that we are intelligent primates, not angels or demigods. Christianity is all about a fallen earth, and you cannot discount genesis, or you discount Christianity. Logic, my friend, will set you free from primitive beliefs about human sacrifice.

Thontor, if there is one thing I have learned, it is that faith is synonmyous with blindness. It is grasping for beliefs because someone told you to. For instance, if one looks at geolical evidence you can see the earth is billions of years old, and that life evolved. This is emperical, proven fact. Everything bespeaks it. When you ask a Christian about this, they say, no, we accept Genesis on faith. But they have NOTHING to back it up! Faith is also synonymous with fear. It is saying, "Ok, I have to believe this or I am in danger of eternal hell." Realize the fallacy here. We live on what is a remarkable planet, surrounded by amazing, diverse, evolved life (from such simple beginnings!), and we are directly tied to the earth, not to some violent desert god who needs sacrifices! We are simply part of the wierd phenomenon of life, not a grand, cosmic (self serving) scheme. Look at how amoral all is, and you will see that God is either A. Bloodthirsty, or B. In a ceremonial role as some sort of phsyics rulemaker.
