News Comments > EA Investigating Incorrect BF3 Bans
23. Re: EA Investigating Incorrect BF3 Bans Jun 24, 2014, 13:06 pagb

My grain of salt...

ERASE PUNKBUSTER FROM THE FACE OF EARTH ALREADY FFS!

It causes more problems than it helps against hackers. I had to spend 60 in a PCIe soundcard because every game using punkbuster would make my comp hang up. (EDIT: This has been around since forever, never fixed, know quite a few people who found themselves screwed by this)

Correct. It was the best part of the show by far. Carmack knows so much, and unlike so few engine developers is willing to share it and is articulate enough to do so effectively.
...and he actually pulls it out in a way I can understand it!

This sums up how Postal 3 turned out. I got it as a present, still waiting for a patch that allows me to play it past the shopping mall pornstar mission, as it runs like at <10fps there.

sigh, the good ol bf4 hate-train, gotta love it

trying my best to ignore the baiting, let's just say this, that a "high frequency bubble" is a cool idea. i don't care what game implements it, it seems like a high tech solution to a complex problem. now in the back of my head, i'm thinking that this will over-complicate things, and more stuff will break as a cause of it, but that's progress for ya, gotta think big.

and please for the love of god stop comparing BF4 to counterstrike. there's a LARGE difference between calculating 12 player's hitscan weapons in a 400 sq meter map and calculating 64 player's every bullet, the trajectory and flight-path in real-time, across 4 square kilometers. oh and vehicles. oh and destruction, oh and a dynamic water mesh. ALL SERVERSIDE.

2 VERY different simulations going on. keeping what you think of the quality of the games aside, accept that you're comparing 2 very different engines. call bf4 a hunk of junk all you want, but don't convince yourselves cause "just because counterstrike can do it" means they're doing the same thing. one is doing one hell of a lot more, over the same networks.
They even compare it with quake, a 15 year old game usually played 1v1...

Modern Warfare didn't use GameSpy, so it will be fine.
Didn't? Then it was every CoD until MW1, right?

Many of the new legendaries are game changers. I got a bow that turns elemental arrow to a hatred generator... can't wait to get more items like that and try things.

The game was hyped on its visuals, so it's only fair that it be judged by them. As for texture streaming, it's certainly not worse in BL2.
The game was hyped over megatexture, they never talked about making 15 passes per frame ala BF3.

Worse than Borderlands 2? Sure. Regular day in borderlands 2:
- You open a crate, there is money inside.
- The money texture HORRIBLY streams in.
- You walk 2 feet, open another crate, there is money inde, same model as before.
- The money texture HORRIBLY streams in AGAIN.
Dude, we don't have 128mb vram anymore, we can hold all of that lazy cartoon textures at once in our graphics cards.

theyarecomingforyou wrote on Feb 9, 2013, 08:41:
RAGE was a backwards step from Doom 3 in many respects - it didn't have dynamic lighting, dynamic skies, as high quality textures, etc.
Doom3 with better textures? No. People bitched about them back in the day with stupid nose sticking screenshots like they did with RAGE. At least RAGE looks fantastic as a whole, and runs good even with older hardware, which doom didn't.

theyarecomingforyou wrote on Feb 9, 2013, 08:41:
Yeah, heaven forbid that a developer include the mod tools that they SAID were going to be included. Fuck you. If you want to suck on Carmack's man-juice then that's up to you but don't pretend to be slightly objective about the matter.
You should thank them for releasing the mod tools, very few AAA developers do it anymore. A year has passed and the game was ill received, yet they still went on with that. Skyrim tools also took a while, yet I didn't see you raging around.
