My impression so far is that the reports of failures are really overblown by an extremely vocal and connected gaming community, but that said...it's probably still not a bad idea if you can afford it. I've been considering getting the extra warranty myself.
Ditto. There are absolutely malfunctioning/damaged consoles out there and people unfortunate enough to have one. But like most issues of this nature, the ratio of reported broken consoles to working consoles is going to be out of whack as the people with working consoles are going to be too busy playing on them to say anything.

I am perfectly fine with strategy games at 30fps, and I can even put up with action games at 30fps. But a racing game at 30fps is absurd; it is the genre that absolutely benefits the most from higher framerates.

$20 for Rayman Legends is a very good deal, and it's on the list of games that's better than BF4.

They could change the name to "free steak and sexual favors" and we still wouldn't want it. It needs to go away entirely.

Speaking of performance, does the retail version come with a benchmark or rolling demo?

So, what are the restrictions on R18+ games?

Sale is restricted to 18 years or older. Not a big deal.
Don't they have to be kept out of view behind the shelves too, so that minors can't see them?

A developer versus a producer? It very well could be.

Got some laughs out of that clip. Professor Chaos ftw! Still have the game on my wishlist, I can wait if that means a better game in the end.
Agreed. It looks like fun and something that I'd want to play. But it's also nice that they're not rushing it; there's nothing else quite like it and it's not as if it's at risk of becoming graphically dated, so better they get it right than get it fast.

This came up in the past, I think they qualify an account as anything with a purchase. Of course that purchase can be a single copy of Snuggle Truck, Half-Life 1 or it might be an account with thousands of games. Judging by the concurrent user numbers I have no problem believing there are roughly 25-30 million accounts that are used on a regular basis though.

With the number of F2P games (TF2, PoE, etc.) on Steam these days, counting accounts with purchases doesn't make much sense anymore. So it's probably now based on account activity in past X months?

Either way, they're impressive numbers.
F2P games don't count as purchases, the last I heard. You have to actually spend money through Steam to count.

Rather ridiculous if you ask me, most of these games will flop.
Probably, but there's no reason they shouldn't be on Steam. Not being on Steam will drive away most of a game's potential audience.

So, it's a Quadro without the cad support?

That's just stupid.
It's somewhere between a Tesla with graphics support and a Quadro K6000 without CAD support. It's also thousands of dollars cheaper than either, making it an entry level compute card that you can also play BF3 on after-hours.

NVIDIA Announces GeForce GTX 780-770 Price Cuts; GTX 780 Ti Launch Date & Price.

So what about the Titan's price?
If the 780 Ti is $699 and they feel it is sufficiently faster than the R9 290X to justify the price, why wouldn't they also loawer the $1000 Titan price? I mean it sounds like the 780 TI will spank the Titan too.

Titan price is not changing as long as folks doing compute are snatching every single one as soon as it's listed in places like Amazon, just read some of the product reviews over there - 80% of those cards most likely is not even connected to screens. Heck I can easily sell mine on Ebay and break even after 8 months of use. So I would say its a best value card I've ever own.
Exactly. Titan for gaming stopped making sense the moment GTX 780 came out; the factory overclocked cards could match it in performance for $300 less. The purpose of Titan is to be a card with GeForce graphics performance and Tesla compute performance. The next NVIDIA card up with this level of compute performance is thousands of dollars more, and that alone secures Titan at $1000.

Titan is a prosumer level card that includes compute functionality not found on any regular GeForce card. It won't get a price cut as it's not competing with either the 290X or the GTX 780 Ti.

I don't understand why all of a sudden people are expecting improved graphics, improved framerates and improved resolutions on day one. Some titles will ALWAYS choose to run slower but look better, on every single platform.
Because it has been 8 friggin years since the HD (but not really) consoles came out. A newly released console not doing 1080p is a bit absurd at the end of 2013.

Eh, not so much. With the Pro 2 being out, the Pro 1 is pretty much done for. This is Microsoft cutting the price to help clear out the old Pro 1 inventory.

Would this equate to lower framerates not looking so shitty as well, considering the refresh rate is matched?

Sorry, I'm no techie

I don't think the monitor would sync to lower framerates than its default refresh rate (likely 60hz.) It'll just run at 60hz unless your fps goes above 60, then it just scales up.
It syncs to everything down to 30Hz. If a frame doesn't come in 33ms, it will refresh the display with the same frame.

So how many major games are left with GFWL? Off of of the top of my head I can think of GTA IV, Dead Rising 2, various Codemasters racing games, Resident Evil 5, and Street Fighter (whose next edition drops GFWL anyhow). Am I missing anything important?

I am sure all five of those who use Linux as a gaming platform would be willing to hand over the money require to make a AAA title be Linux-compatible right out of the gate.

I kid. I kid.
You may think you kid but you are actually correct.
You ever look at the humble bundle numbers? Linux users average a higher donation the mac or windows users, though they do have a vastly smaller number of purchases.

Is this a new development? In the past I thought OS X had the highest?
It depends on the game. But in general with Mac OS X getting so many ports these days, it's the Linux guys putting up the biggest individual contributions. Which is the right move on their part, but they're still fighting against much larger user bases.

High individual contributions only last so long as the platform is in the evangelist phase, which Mac OS X is past.
