Wow, and it only took you two edits to explain this. I'm impressed. You must be "special". I'm obsessive compulsive with my edits. I don't want to make any grammatical errors.

OK, so GT Interactive became Infogrames Inc. after being bought by Infogrames Entertainment. Infogrames Inc. became Atari Inc. after Infogrames Entertainment bought Hasbro.
Infogrames Entertainment, which owns the current Atari Inc., is the "Infogrames" referenced here. They also want to change their name to Atari now.
So right now, Infogrames Entertainment owns Atari Inc....after the name change...Atari (or Atari Entertainment) will own Atari Inc.
(Had to look it up on wikipedia, gets a bit confusing, heh) This comment was edited on Apr 14, 20:42. |

I didn't buy it, and I have no desire to. That said, I love the game...at LANs. Their free LAN play is a bit of a double edged sword, it gets people to try the game, but also gives a free ride to people like me who can't stand playing games like these that depend on teamwork to be fun. The few games I've played online have been pretty dull compared to LAN play with some buddies. This comment was edited on Apr 13, 22:00. |

Not unusual at all to release beta patches. iD has been doing it awhile with Quake 4. Valve does it as well, though they don't usually publicize them.
Most people skip them as they usually aren't compatible with older version servers. But anything that improves the quality of the final patch can't be bad. This comment was edited on Mar 1, 09:49. |

Let me repeat; games in DX9 mode in Vista run at the same performance level as the same games in XP.
Then why is my dual-boot XP/Vista system always in XP? Every so often I boot vista back up to check recent updates, but I still have a consistant 10-30% FPS drop in pretty much every game, making newer games pretty much unplayable on my poor 7900GS.
I love actually using Vista, normal applications start up fast and it just plain looks nice, but until I'm able to play a game of TF2 with the min FPS over 20...I'm gonna have to sit in XP.

uhhh Crysis actually does look better in DX10. Still runs like fuckpiss, but it does look better.
Only because the "Very High" mode was artificially disabled under DX9. By editing config files you can get it to look exactly the same.
Otherwise, there just isn't big enough of a difference to market Vista. By disabling effects under DX9 in new games, it encourages more people to upgrade to Vista to get them. There may be requirements in the "Games for Windows" program to give a certain number of extra features in the DX10 version, and developers take the easy way out and just disable features in the DX9 version.

But does anybody know if Shadowbane supports widescreen? I tried googling, no luck.
It does. I play at 1280x800.

This is a good thing. Shadowbane is a MUCH different type of MMO from WoW. It revolves entirely around PvP, you can easily hit the maximum level of 75 in a few days. There were tons of cheated items in the game and other fixes that this needed to be done for.
Not only are people not leaving, lots of new people are returning, looking at getting into the game again (or for the first time) because of the level playfield everyone will now be on.

Quote from Gabe Newell:
"If you right click on a game in Steam, you'll see that you can back up the files yourself. Unless there was some situation I don't understand, we would presumably disable authentication before any event that would preclude the authentication servers from being available.
We've tested disabling authentication and it works."
