I'll just put a LOL@fallofamericanempire in here - RollinThundr gonna leave it if Obama gets back in, to goto Canada? Thundr, you do know that all of us in the Commonwealth all each put a five dollar note in the post and send it to our Queen each week. (The Queen face is on stamps for a reason!)

It's what we do, so she can build an army and take back America.

Just joking, it's good for morale, America is shit and the Commonwealth don't want it.

A bit more thinking and I'd say that Dragon Age 2 sold manly on name too. Also SW:TOR

There are heaps of games over the years which have sold large at thier launch (not all at same level as Diablo 3, which came out in 2012 so is fresh in your mind)

Your statement "I'm starting to think D3 may have been the first observable game that sold on name and name alone." is just very shallow thinking and I'd say is more about your personal views towards large publishers and games company than anything else.

The fact that it had a '3' in the name make me think that they are keen to use the 'Diablo' name in selling their game or else they may have gone with a name like "Tristram"

You don't game enough then
What about CoD games?

Hehe true but CoD didn't have a 12 years wait between sequels.

Doom 3, Duke Nukem Forever, Spore, Carmaggedon 3, some of the NFS games, too add a few.

You should try to think a bit harder next time (or always)

pfff, Video game expert - pfff what ever!

I heard that this "Stephen Heaslip" could not finish Doom 2 on medium level and got to scared to finish Plant's V Zombies after he seen the first Thriller Zombie!!

And he has spent 78 hours in portal 1 looking for the cake.

It's just sad really.

Video game expert - pfff

I'm a bit shocked - For once I completely agree with everything that Batman has said in the topic.

It's the way Blizzard choose to code their game, if you don't like it and did not wait to see how it turned out (i.e. You pre-ordered or brought at release) then I hope you take a lesson form this - You should wait abit first.

Thinking to many people are getting controlled by the hype.

This is Nebraska's big chance to step up to the plate and get itself in on the digital age - cheap as - for just $150 million, 38 Studios could be doing business in your state! It's Win - Win!

They must have gone thought a lot more than just that $75m, thats just to the state and I doubt the state would have let it get that high unless they had other sources of funding/money at some stage.

Is this the company that was in Florida and moved for the tax incentives?

Also - "There’s not a great pool of advisers in this industry, but we’ll find them." Some where right now, Derek Smart is traveling a speed to help Gov. Lincoln Chafee.

This is happening the world over in many industry .... this is what happened to Ireland - this is now Lord of the Ring's (was) and The Hobbit ($30 million NZ tax dollars!!) are getting made in New Zealand - Tax payer money with none of the profits coming back to the govenment.

Peter Jackson gets rich out of the LotR movies, NZ who garanties (said they would pay if it fails) gets less than nothing, we got the bill and now they are changing the employment laws to better suit 'sir Peter' (i.e. he does not even use local crews, he flies in to the country whom ever he wants and the govenment gives them work permints.)

I'm so in rant mode, someone bring me a error 37!

EA Tigerwoods PGAXXX 2033 has so much more custom options for your dildo's that I cant see why this would get my attention.

Expect I'm totally over the top with throwing my attention around so it just might.

So you are saying Veterator, that PC games are like the same as anit-aids drugs?

I've never meet a person who would die if they cant get there PC games.

I've meet two who would die sooner if they could not get there anit-aids drugs (which in this country , NZ, and paid for by the goverment)

ENTERTANTMENT is not a right of life.

To steal it is to steal it, not a 'I only stole the beard so my family could eat' type of stealing.

The funny side being that those stealing only help to make less of it in the future.

Hey EricFate, I'd say that EA does believe that. It's like some people around here think that they have a meeting and say 'piracy made it fail' and then they just all go 'add more DRM next time'.

These companies are making millions, ten's of millions, hundred's of millions making games across all platforms - they are not as dumb and unaware of what works and what does not as some people make out.

They would have never lasted this long and made that much money if they did not turthfully review their own products. I know it popular amongst some to think they are just a bunch of suits looking out for their share holders (which is true on some levels) but to try to say that they don't understand the industry and the relaity in it, is just foolish.

As for that reply from Aseven - I'm indiffent to the artical I linked to, was just using it to illistarte one of the differnetions of "free riding". What do you make of the (2 year old) OECD report into the matter then? (it was in reply to 'show me where it make econmic harm')

Prove it. Show us numbers. It's an economic effect. It should be easy.

Oh, wait. The United States Government Accountability Office couldnt find any reasonable, clear numbers:
http://www.gao.gov/new.items/d10423.pdf

Good luck!

Start with this if you like - OECD Piracy Link

I also have read a report into the cost of illeagly steaming of live sports events of which I worked on and the cost to the company I was working for - put at around $23,000NZD for that one event. This was a private report so I cant share it with you.

The event still made plenty of plenty of money, but the company is more worried about more and more people "free riding" and therefore over time making these event uneconomic.

Or Al Lowe (of Lesure Suit Larry) saying how back in the day they sold more hint books than copies of that game.

Why do you need a hint book if your a pirate just having a look but you anit gonna play it any real amount of time?

Piracy is real, it does have a econmic effect on many industries.

To think otherwise is being nievie (shocking spelling sorry)
