News Comments > Star Citizen FPS May Come Next Month
152. Re: Star Citizen FPS May Come Next Month Jul 21, 2015, 19:28 Kosumo

My issue is when people are presenting information that is demonstrably wrong and/or misleading.

Like when you said yesterday -

They have 15% of the company working on the FPS module. And yes, my quote is direct from Chris Roberts.

Which is wrong and misleading due to Chris Roberts saying outwise in the very interview that this thread is about.

Without being personal - I troll these topic due to what I see as people placing misplaced faith in Chris Roberts - your response's are starting to come across as a Parriot in White Knight armour You eat everything that he says with out any salt at all - watch out for cramp.

ROFL

His efforts to develop Freelancer put his company, Digital Anvil, into a place where it had run out of money and had to be brought out to stay alive. Microsoft had enough money to take the risk that was buying Digital Anvil with out even have to think much about it - it was during Microsoft $$$$ days.

Even still, they where not prepared to just keep giving Digital Anvil money while Chris was in charge.

There is a track, there is a record.

Anyway that avoids the point that you said you there was no second chance at making this game, while I pointed out that there very much could have been if he choose to keep it smaller to start with.

Wrong - It says right thier in the text that Blue posted and I quote Christ Roberts

"A large amount of the company, especially now, has been working on it. We've got extra help from the German studio, which is a bunch of CryEngine experts."
They have 15% of the company working on the FPS module. And yes, my quote is direct from Chris Roberts.

Your quote of Chris Roberts is 3-4 weeks only and as the word 'has' in it; The Chris Roberts quote I used is form the new article i.e. a few days old at most and shows how they have now move more people onto it to get it done ..... it's there in that video .... did you not hear him say so?

There is no 'round two' - there's one shot at a game like this.

That's bullshit - if he made a good game that people enjoyed there would easily be a round two - after all how many times has he made space sim/fighter games already? 4 Wing Commanders, Starlancer, Freelancer and here we are at round six!

Thing is, is he is not really building on anything, he has gone back to the start and is trying for/backing on a bases full home run in the first innings when he would have imho been better to start smaller and work his and his teams way up - remember he made a new studio for this, does it not make sence to you that they should get some smaller progects out first to get their production shecludling and team work up to speed?

However, you have to remember that it's being developed by a third-party studio - the other modules are being developed independently to minimise the impact of a delay with any one of them.

Wrong - It says right thier in the text that Blue posted and I quote Christ Roberts

"A large amount of the company, especially now, has been working on it. We've got extra help from the German studio, which is a bunch of CryEngine experts."

Also why do you use GTA 5 as an exsample? To me that undermines what you are trying to use it to say. For instance GTA 5 greatness comes form Rockstar evolving their games over time, using each one to learn lessons for the next. Exsample - the greatly improved shooting in GTA 5 over GTA 4 came very much form the work they done on Max Panye 3, Driving from lessons they learned with their Midnight Club games and the fleshing out of the open world eviroment from Red Dead Redemption.

This is how CIG should have gone about this - making the oringal 20 million level of game, learning from that and moving on to improve and make better a second time round. CIG is NOT a AAA game development house, at this stage, they have no track record at all apart form getting money from crowd funding. Roberts anit released a game in over a decade.

Also you mentioned Hollywood level voice actors (?) like most AAA games have these days - other that Kevin Spacey in a COD game, I struggle to think of any in the last 5 years - could you list 3 recent exsamples? (none in GTA, none in Assassian Creed, none in Far Cry)

ARK is killing it. They must be renting apartments to house money like in the the movie Blow at this point

They should exchange all their money for internet pew pew spaceships in Chris Roberts record breaking, crowd funded, super duper, BDSSE!!! It would take up less space than having to rent apartments* to store it. And how could you lose, Chris Roberts knows what he's doing!

*that joke has nothing to do with Derek allueuding to CIG paying for rent on a house/apartment - that is it's own joke.

That Rocket League is exactly like/ is Carball mod for Unreal 2004.

I loved Carball, remember when there was only like about 9 people playing across the whole world due to the patch up-dates and we got 6 togeather in one game! (should have called it "the 2/3rds world champs!"

Glad its back, wondering if the origanl mod maker is making anything off this - it may have been sold on way back when?

Bluesnews Carball with the mode maker posting in.

Would be nice if you included the dates of the e-mails imho.

I must say, as far as I'm concerned, since that guy has worked at Blizzard he must be right (j/k) and he is going to beat you due to already having your money.

To him, I think you are a dirty heritic

I'm going to go look at some old Bluesnews threads from around when Chris hit $20 million and you where still a fanboi.

Good luck getting your money, I agree with you totally.

What the corporate expenses (paying approx $14K per month rent with backer money as a corporate housing in Pacific Palisades, is usually a big Red flag) for this company, built on crowd-funding, is?

What the what? Is Derek suggesting that CIG are paying $14,000 rent for a house in Pacific Palisades for Chris and Sandi? If so, how in anyway is that right?

(I read how fanbois where explaning why there maybe a good reason to use a private plane after Derek drop a hint that that maybe happerning - was total cult type stuff)

Really? You believe that? Could you tell me what you think is a 'ready' state for a ship to be sold in.
As I'm sure you're aware, there are three stages in which a ship is sold - when they're concept ready, when they're hangar ready and when they're flight ready. Each stage is pretty self-explanatory, so I'm not sure what you're expecting me to say.

I'd like to know if you think selling/pledging a ship in a 'concept' ready stage for ~10 times the price of a whole AAA computer game, for a game that is not ready, or close too, is a sound model for software development?

So you think that making a promise that you will get this ship at sometime in some state for a game that you will get at sometime that itself will only be in some state, is where it would be good if PC gaming headed towards?

"Ships are sold as and when they're ready but many are being held back for the singleplayer campaign and will never be sold."

Really? You believe that? Could you tell me what you think is a 'ready' state for a ship to be sold in.

"You got your refund, now go away."

Don't be like that, everyone has a right to be here unless Blue says otherwise.

Derek says some stupid things but also raises valid points that can't be hand waved away. If you don't agree fine, but he should be able to say them if he wishes. Chris Roberts is a big man, he can look after himself, defend him self by straight out saying that there has been no use of charted/private planes if he wishes or he can just say nothing.

I believe I can clarify this. We refunded Mr. Smart’s package because he was using Star Citizen as a platform to gain attention as part of a campaign to promote his ‘Line of Defense’ space game

Hahah, that is exactly what it looked like to me. Some sort of snow balls chance in hell that people would try his game and abandon star citizen. Or more likely just because Star Citizen has a lot of fans if you talk about it then you get a lot of eye balls looking at your game that wouldn't otherwise.

He's not being to subtle about it either. You could turn it into a drinking game - for every embedded link and/or reference in his missives to his products, drink. I'd say drink twice for every straw man, argument from authority, or begging the question, but even with wine coolers you'd go blind.

Mmmm, tasty console tears mmmm

Like what you are saying! - game runs well for me, enjoying it heaps; two other gamers, one hardcore, have been over and played it and loved it and thought it run well.

I did for the first time come across some missing textures on a character's cap (Azreal?) which was weird but all I done was reboot game and never had it again.

Anyway, the console fanboies will get their full of PC gamer tears when Star Citizen comes out; or does not come out!

Will I be able to create a server for say 16 friends and have house rules and have a reasonably large area/planets etc to run around in?

I doubt it, I'd say they run into both tech problems and money problems way before that point is reached.

My evidence is Chris Roberts track record of over promise, under delivery.

Hey, if people are only 'donating/pleaging' money and not 'buying' ships - how come they are able to sell these 'ships' that they 'pledged' for?

Sounds to me like people are buying ships not making donations.

Freudian Slip - "A Freudian slip, also called parapraxis, is an error in speech, memory, or physical action that is interpreted as occurring due to the interference of an unconscious ("dynamically repressed") subdued wish, conflict, or train of thought guided by the ego and the rules of correct behaviour."

So part of Ben Lesnick 'refuting' of the concerns (more like damage control - his job IS to be a paid shill, paid for by the Star Citizens - like a government taxing you, then using your tax money to spy on you aginst your own interest), he goes on to say the following regaurding the departures of staff (some very key staff - Executive Producer, which they said nothing of until Derek had his rant and said the guy had left, which they try to minimize by making it sound like its just another person around the office).

To Qoute Ben
"‘X employee is leaving, we’re doomed!’

As I said in a recent post, turnover sucks… but it’s a constant in this or pretty much any other industry. The sky is not falling. From the inside, it’s always interesting to see how the world reacts. Because it comes off as so specific – the guys who decide to let you know they’re leaving like Travis or Eric are the heart and the soul of the game… because you know them above anything else. In the past two years, we’ve had some amazing talent that has moved on for plenty of reasons (other opportunities, personal issues, etc.) and it’s always sort of a shame to see they’re never appreciated. I’ll also say that the averages work out pretty well: we are hiring extremely talented people many times faster than we lose them.

I also believe there’s some confusion as to just what a producer does. It’s nowhere near as glamorous as it sounds: they aren’t designing the game or telling anyone how it’s going to work… they’re responsible for very methodical processes. A producer is essentially a scheduler, someone who works with giant spreadsheets and charts to make sure the components needed to realize Chris’ vision can happen and that personnel are tasked with individual processes. And then they’re responsible for holding the whip: you said the Freelancer rework would take seven days and you’re on day eight, what’s going on and how do we fix it? and so on."

Ok, did anyone else see that? In the way he explains what a producer does and their role he uses an example using the word "Freelancer" and a job taking to long!

WTF Dude, that's totally what happened on Chris Roberts last computer game "Freelancer" which Microsoft had to rescue by removing Chris form it due to Chris saying it would take X amount of time and it being past that time, full of feature creep and over budget. After this Chris left the gaming scene for Hollywood.

Like Hello, History, Repeating.

Ben has been drinking form the Kool-Aid dispenser again .... I feel sorry for those who can't see what is happerning with Star Citizen.
