I'd much rather Relic take it's chances with Ubisoft or EA than that sillyness. Yeah, we never thought we'd live to see the day that another publisher made EA look good! |

The isn't bad. Everyone on the CD team knows it as well. Purportedly, they sold over 1.5 million copies, and only missed their projected sales by 10%! Ten-fucking-percent, and they lay off half the team.
Don't buy shit from these companies. Let them fucking sink. Studios that go along with this crap don't' deserve your money, and the employees they axe deserve to work for better companies anyhow. |

Are you telling me that this many companies are this badly managed? Oh man, if you ONLY knew. I can think of... maybe 3 studios in the US that aren't completely fucked in terms of management. That is not an exaggeration.
The layoffs are a product of upper management/publishing siphoning up as much revenue they can get. I may work in this industry, but I also can't wait to see it implode upon itself. May everyone of those responsible for such greed die a fiery death.

I prefer Tribes 1. If they could at least push that damn fog back a few miles in T2 I might give this a shot, otherwise "meh".

I don't understand why they're "remaking" a game that's not even 5 years old. I actually just played Butcher Bay for the first time a month or two ago, and it stands up just fine to today's visuals.
They could release it as "Butcher Bay Gold" and no one would think any different. What brought this about? |

I never had many problems with Gothic 1 or 2. 3 was the real bug-fest.
Then again it's one of my favorite series, and I could just be mis-remembering 1&2 due to the bugs in 3 overshadowing it's predecessors.
Still, great games, but bad development. Wish Piranha kept the rights though. No studio should ever be stripped of it's original property or ideas. If anything the publisher should drop them, hire another dev, and get to work competing with them. |

They're trying to do the Sims model for this one by selling crap content add-ons. I find it hilarious that they don't even know they made a game where that was totally unnecessary for the end user.
What they need to do is expand on the gameplay from this sorely linear experience. Let the player stay in the water, or any other age, for an indefinite amount of time, and have that wonderful "procedural" engine grow in on itself to create really unique experiences. Unfortunately they just turned it into a staged experience, with no real actual sandbox gameplay outside of choosing where to do the same things over and over again.
This is going to tank, but it's okay! EA will just lay off a few hundred folks for "their" failure, and all will be right with the world again.

Yeah, indie games are really the best entertainment to be had lately. They say that PC gaming is dying, but honestly I can't wait for it "die", because then it will just fill up with crazy games by hobbyists and small developers who want to make something cool again, like it used to be in the 80s/90s. Good stuff, not hollywood trash. |

Dear Nefilim, I hope you get syphilis and die you pirate fuck! Just wanted you to know "CrimsonPaw", my download should finish in... oooh, 2 more hours!
For me, I'm going to stop by and actually BUY a copy like I have every other game for the past 10 years... Thank you for paying my paychecks for the last decade! Tool.

Sadly, I suspect that they are going to head in a more mainstream direction and make something more "action-packed", simplified for easy access, and hollywood-esque. This is just based on what all the other devs seem to be doing nowadays, so I hope it's not the case.
For me the X series has been a really nice reminder of what the space sim genre used to be, but at the same time never reached its full potential in my mind. I always wanted to go screaming over landscapes within planet atmosphere, and was hoping the X series would evolve to resemble something more like Elite Frontier. Oh well.
Also, I echo DmitriM's question. Is this an addon or a standalone release? I have X3 Reunion either way, but still curious. You can at least pick that one up for roughly $10-$20 right now, so if you're hankering for some X experience DmitriM, at least check that one out. I think it's the best in the series so far.

If no DRM is acceptable to Stardocks users, then why do they need to develop "acceptable DRM"?
Stardock is respecting its customers wishes by not putting DRM into their games, and that seems to be working out for them. I get the impression that others in the industry are trying to strongarm in the opposite direction because it undermines all their arguments of "omg-wtf-pir8s are killing us".

I like UT3, and I hope this does in fact "grow the customer base", but it seems like an odd announcement for what I personally perceive as an unpopular FPS. I don't know though. I look forward to seeing what it is.

Well, I'm all for piracy and love and sharing, but as soon as you start selling other peoples stuff to make a profit for yourself, you should hang from a very tall tree by a very short rope.

My parents are both dead, and I work forty hours a week. It's called having roommates to split expenses with. 11k (which is after taxes) is a lot of disposable income when rent, utilities, food, and the ISP bill amount to $375 a month. Sure sure. Your dog ran away too.
I live in a modest apartment with roommates, and you couldn't afford my rent + utilities on 11k a year. You're a liar trying to add details to your story in an attempt to separate yourself from the norm. If you want be apart and above the other folks on these forums, don't bother posting here you little tool.
As for the story topic, it doesn't matter if PCs have controllers. When you make a game for a certain platform, you support its default hardware. They probably see doing a proper conversion as a wasted investment, considering that most PC ports are considered internally at these companies as just pirate fodder.
