News Comments > Spaceships Ahoy - SOL: Exodus
5. Re: Spaceships Ahoy - SOL: Exodus Jan 25, 2012, 22:50 Ludomancer

There's a space-flight sim/shooter on Xbox 360 - it's called Project Silpheed. Anyone who has ever been a fan of X-wing, or Wing Commander, or any of the like, should try it if they have the console.
It's an absolute crime the game was not on PC. It's entirely linear, but god DAMN is it good. Such a fun game.

Dunno about this one, but may try it out. That 360 game made me fiend for space shooters like nothing else, so I've been pining for something similar, more than the nostalgia of those games would lead me to, even.

News Comments > Dead Island DLC Next Month

If you get this game for any more than $5, you were ripped off.

I know some people have had a good time with it. However the percentage of people who've found they just purchased a broken piece of shit is somewhere around the majority of the audience. Friends and I picked the game up during the steam christmas sale. We played for about 3-4 hours, absolutely never making more than 20 minutes of progress. Each and every one of us crashed out repeatedly. The four of us literally never had more than 5 minutes of stability where all of us were present online together. The game is a broken piece of shit. I've never been so appalled at a release in my life. the shit they got away with in this game, and it's still selling, and they're making DLC for the fucking thing (as opposed to fixing it).

Even if you're one of those who've had a good time with the game, please think of your fellow gamers and the development and consumer situation at large, and just warn everyone away from this piece of shit. The four of us ultimately guilted steam into giving a refund (developers would not answer their support email after a month of trying). This was only after I tried to see what I could get out of the game in single player, and after 10 minutes of playing alone (the game does not crash as much offline), I died and respawned within a locked boss room that I did not have the key for.

BROKE-ASS SHIT GAME

I cursed out loud when I read that they were releasing DLC for this pile. Fuck these people.

Or people who buy games a reason to rationalize their piracy.

"Crunch Time" is fraud. What is so fucking god-damned important about shipping a stupid material product at specified time, to the point of not being able to get home and see your fucking family on the weekends?

All we would need to do is collectively stand up to it, and it would end immediately, but too many people are too chicken shit or too desperate, and they just cave to the whims of their corporate masters.

Fuck industry.

I'm still trying to get into Call Of Pripyat but I think I might have STALKER burnout, as I'm finding the massive empty landscape - seriously, you just walk and walk and walk without anything to do - and unintelligible plot to be a huge turn-off. The graphics are barely an improvement over previous games, which makes it feel very dated. After playing Metro 2033, that had great atmosphere, a strong narrative and awesome weapon handling I'm having trouble sticking with CoP.

It took me about a year (maybe two) to finally push through Pripyat. It's a rough one to penetrate, and it wasn't until after I beat Pripyat that I even got what they were trying to do. Pripyat is meandering because nearly everything is optional. Every major quest in the game alters the ending you get, right down to who you keep alive during fire fights. It wasn't the best design of the series, but it makes me happy they keep trying out different formulas.

Ultimately the only thing Pripyat really brought to the table for me were the localized anomalous zones. You could see where each major anomaly was on the map, and you knew if you went there you were in for a very different experience than the last, and pretty much guaranteed to get at least 1 relic out of it. They were like little mini-dungeons scattered all across the landscape. I really hope they bring that aspect back to the next game.

And I thought Pripyats visuals were a major step back from both the first two games. You could see incredibly far, but everything beyond a 100 yard limit looked like an early polygonal game from the late 90's.

This is fantastic news. Hearing about their potential closure at the end of last year really brought me down. I hope this is legitimate and comfortable continuation of their work, and not, say, a group of unpaid highschool kids rounded up at the last second to monkey-away on the end of a project in some russian warehouse.

Sadly, a console version would be the one thing to keep them afloat, I think... Would be nice to hear though. I could let them go quietly into the night if they finished Stalker2 for PC. Otherwise, I spend this holiday season in mourning.

you can sure tell the games that don't bring home any butter for anyone in these forums... if this were a north american game you'd all be clamoring to suck it's dick in-front of the media, regardless of it's quality.

You think that many folks here are patriotic gamers? I've never thought about the nationality of a game developer, at least since I was a kid in the 80's when "Japan made the best games".
Most American devs today are still sub-par. And fuck the whole country anyway, with all it's problems, but maybe that's what you were hoping someone would say?

Fucking hilarious. I was waiting for someone to fix that atrocious UI, and they made it look like Oblivions atrocious UI! God damn, did we completely lose sight of the graphical drag and drop?

Oh well, this is far more usable than what it was.

I want to love these games. Played a bit of X3. The solitude was enjoyable... but that only lasted so long.

Really wanting a replacement for Elite 2 Frontier, eventually.

Have no idea how these guys stay in business...

I have *heard* that they actually fund their company through drugs. Seriously. Really no idea if it's true, but the only reason I don't disregard it completely is because I've known more than one game studio to do that in the past.

No need to have trouble. His entire post is gibberish.

Edit: and it's only 29.99 at Get Games RIGHT NOW

Awe, cute, a shill.

I'll break it down for you:
+The engine renders beautifully...
-But the actual art is really bad.
+Melee attacks are awesome. You can basically kill every normal-size enemy in one hit. Most of us played through the first half of the game without weapons.
-Level design throughout is extremely messy. Very unfocused and headache-inducing.
-It felt like the game returned to it's oldschool roots only during the last couple levels.
+The sandwhale is cool.
-The game is very short. We finished it on Serious difficulty in about 4 hours, playing from 3pm to 7pm or so.
+A couple hilarious quotable moments. Sam out-Dukes Nukem at his own game, by far.

5 buddies and I just played through the entire game. It's definitely the worst of the series. I love Croteam, but I recommend against this one. I am really disappointed in them for releasing this. Probably 4 hours max, on the highest difficulty. Not good.

Yeah... fuck these developers that think they can give their games away for free. We'll show them. Let's burn their offices and rape their families!

Right... If it has always on DRM, that generally means it's recording your browsing history, folder and file arrangement, system details, and anything else it can observe since there are no laws against spyware at this time. Why would you defend that, exactly?

Anyway:

Endless fun. Zero cost. What are you waiting for?

Why, I'm waiting for you to stop talking down to me, bitch-marketing-team. Thanks!!!

Title rocks. Goes unplayed. Glad I read the comments first. Even if you can block the .EXE via firewall, Microsoft put backdoors (svhost) into their OSes a long time ago which you can't really prevent from use by individual applications.

Good thing there is release date drm! Silly pirates, you can't do anything with that until release day anyway!

Right?
Just depends on the DRM method and the platform. Remember HL2 for PC? Valve didn't let anyone have the final .exe files until near the release time, I don't think it was playable very early, despite some stores selling it days ahead of time.

Hmm, I don't remember the specifics, but I do recall quite clearly that I played HL2 weeks (if not months) ahead of it's release.

The fact that you're whining about the gay activists tells me you've had a lifetime in a world that accepts you for who you are. Many people do not have that, and you are a shit human being for complaining the moment they speak up about it. Maybe you tell yourself you accept gay people, but this is still a world where many are beaten to death just for living as themselves.

The reason this issue was significant is because the state of mind that accepts content like the offending video perpetuates inequality between these groups. Yeah, it's totally thought-policing, but until you extinguish the acceptance of those beliefs, no one from the minority group will be treated with respect.

@Eldaron That you refer to yourself as "Normal" shows a fantastic level of ignorance.

odd that they'd come out and say they weren't releasing anything at all.

I do believe Avalanche is currently working on a Mad Max game using their beloved engine. It's supposed to tie in with some stupid film "reboot", so I can imagine that taking most of their time. Would have expected it to release next year though....
