It's not really going to be a shitstorm, it's just a bunch of shitty games that no one wants. Not really a thud per se, more like a whiffle.

Yeah... it needs to be more than a gaming machine, like the big consoles are going... Bluray player, streamer for mobile devices and NAS storage, netflix / youtube type apps, internet surfing on the TV, etc. etc. etc.

That's pretty much the only reason I'm considering finally buying a console... so far smart tvs and smart bluray players, suck at that stuff.... and I'm not willing to buy a new TV... and I don't think a bluray player will ever have enough processor power / storage to be good at that stuff.

There is the possibility of a media center PC... but I don't know of any real good ones, and I don't feel like building one.

So, a PS4 is looking like a decent option.

It's a two-way thing. The developer should design the game for the latest drivers they have available to them but manufacturers should be given access to final code to allow them to make specific optimisations. Apparently the new nVidia drivers have more problems than the previous version, so it's hard to say for certain who is most responsible for the situation.

At the end of the day developers and manufacturers should work together to give customers the best possible experience. That clearly didn't happen with this game.

Agreed.

That's why I don't get the apology from nVidia. The developers should have targeted the latest, or just previous to the latest drivers for a STABLE release... then any optimizations by nVidia or AMD are a bonus.

This got funded pretty damn fast

Now at double their original goal, in a day and a half...

It is slowing down now... but I figure they'll get another rush wave just before the time expires. A bunch of kickstarter games barely made their funding in the last 24-48 hours... so I figure the on-the-fence people will provide a burst in the last 24-48 hours.

Either way... I'm sure they'll be way over 2 million by funding close day.

Well... the big publishers have become mostly irrelevant to me.

Other than a FEW major titles that I'm looking forward to (Watch Dogs, Thief, etc.)... I have 3 kickstarter projects backed and there are several I haven't backed but will purchase after release... and I don't have to worry about DRM, Consolitus Porting, nor some fucked up data mining client running in the background (Steam, Origin, UPlay) even in "offline mode".

nVidia and AMD should both be given the final code as soon as the game goes gold so they can release performance drivers to coincide with release.

To me, this is ass backwards.

nVidia and AMD shouldn't have to adjust drivers for new games. New games need to be developed for the latest drivers released. Period.

Yeah... close to double their pledge goal in the first 24 hours. Pretty Amazing.

Other contenders in the "best strategy game" category included Diablo 3, Dark Souls, and Football Manager 2013. BAFTA is even worse than the VGAs...

Given how much Football Manager is at the top of the UK sales charts, and The Sims... I'm surprised one of those didn't win.

I totally agree with the first, and mostly agree with the second. As long as they don't throw stealth out the window...

Well... it wouldn't be "Teef" at all, if there were no stealth options.
So, I'm not to worried about that.

I think they did a great job with Deus Ex:HR, and I really didn't give a shit about the boss fights... to me, it was more about the journey.

Same goes for Thief... if they make it a great journey... I won't care if there are more "action-type" options compared to the original series.

Obviously I won't pre-order... nor will it be a day 1 purchase... but if the buzz about it is good after release... I'd be likely to pick it up within the first couple of weeks.

To be fair, the whole A:CM may have not been their fault. It sounds like they got a worthless shamble of assets and an impossible deadline.

They had like 2 years out of the 6, didn't they? I don't think that was an impossible deadline. The last 8 months or so was allegedly Gearbox trying to clean up the mess.

Either way... I do agree that Gearbox is just as much to blame, if not more, considering that they chose who to outsource the project to in the first place, and wasn't paying attention.

saying this was because a publishing deal fell through.

Gee, ya think?

After the Colonial Marines mess, who would hire this studio?
(Not that Gearbox doesn't significantly share the blame)
