AKA -- internal chaos at SONY with occasional anxious arm-flailing at each other. Uh... the article simply states that they haven't come up with a final version of what the actual box / device will look like yet. The internal hardware is pretty much a done deal.
In other words, they're still deciding on a case design... and it probably has more to do with manufacturing costs than looks. |

I'm glad they backed down on their weird DRM strategy, they make a lot of interesting games and I didn't want to miss out on a bunch. Ditto. UPlay is annoying extra launch click for offline mode... but I can live with that. I have the NIC in my gaming rig turned off 95% of the time... the exception is buying and downloading new games, patching, and playing GW2 (or some other MMO). |

So unless it's stipulated in writing I wouldn't hold my breath. And at the very least they never said there wouldn't be a charge for used games - which there already is for multiplayer. I'm sure the other shoe has yet to drop on this issue. True, but I read into that being probably the publishers pushing some online DRM component like EA's Origin... not Sony doing it themselves with the PS4. Which would put it on par with the PC... avoid EA games, then. |

Well if I were to get a console... I'd be leaning towards the PS4.
won't block used games, doesn't require a constant internet connectection, and can avoid all the social network bs... correcting link that is broken: PS4 won't require constant Internet connection.
If I did get a console... it would be because I'm dissatisfied with my current bluray player's apps... I could go find a better one... but maybe the ability to play a couple of games would be nice too. A casual box for the wife and guests.
EDIT: Another is that they'll use Gaikai to let you try the game before you buy... that's a huge plus. I used Gaikai to try Saints Row the Third, because I was totally unsure of that series... and ended up buying it for my PC, even though there was a bit of input lag on Gaikai... a 30 minute trial was enough to convince me to buy it.

Which is probably why neither is my cup o tea... but I still find it difficult to believe that Cryptic isn't going to shit out some generic piece of crap, and then rely on everyone else to make their content for them, much like STO. |

nin wrote on Feb 20, 2013, 10:07: I remember my trips to London (a decade or more ago), and hitting every HMV I could find, as well as the Tower (Piccadilly Circus, I think?). I swear to god, it seemed like there was a HMV about every block.
There was a Tower and Virgin stores in Vegas I'd always hit, too, but they're both gone...
Well... Barnes and Noble still sells CDs and Blu-Rays... but ridiculously expensive... can get the same Blu-Ray in a Walmart for $10 cheaper... and the CDs are still the same cost as 15 years ago??? Hah! (The only reason I'd get a CD is for ripping to MP3)
Also, with e-readers and tablets starting to sell e-books... I'm not sure how long Barnes and Noble, and Borders will be around. The Borders book store in my town, shut down 2 years ago. I have to drive 30 miles to get to Barnes and Noble, if I want a book right away. But otherwise I just order those online too. |

It looks like HMV is the equivalent to Tower Records in the States... which brick and mortar-wise... is pretty much out of business and has been so for a long time. The only additional things that HMV seems to have is some computer hardware and some clothing.
It sucks... but getting blu-ray movies and such is just way cheaper online... and music CDs are pretty much dead now... so there's hardly a way to survive for these products (brick and mortar-wise). |

Is this the patch that makes the OS functional on a Desktop Computer?
or, in other words...
Is this the patch that will let you turn off Metro without 3rd party hacks?
(I seriously doubt it... if anything it will probably block those hacks even more) |

I'm pretty sure that GPUs are much more efficient at floating point arithmetic than CPUs. How many cores it takes to get that efficiency, I don't know. I do know that they wouldn't be using these cards for supercomputing if they couldn't do complex calculations. |

I'm pretty sure they mean compute power, and not game average framerate power, though. The 6XX series was skimpy on compute... which most gamers don't care about anyway.
So yeah... I don't see this card being worth $1000 for gaming. |

Bloody previews. No benchmarks. I hate that crap. Looks like we won't see benchmarks until later this week, because the nVidia PR machine won't allow them. |
