Description Old, beer drinking gamer. I think my first game was the ASCII version of Star Trek on an IBM mainframe at my Dad's work. Second was probably Pong that he built out of parts from an 'Electronics Today' magazine on a black and white TV....

I agree with the Justice posts, last good album, although I haven't listened to many of them since.

Bob Rock produced the 'black album' and that was their downfall.

He was famous for (at the time) producing such radio friendly bands as Bon Jovi, Aerosmith (who'd turned mainstream, although we didn't call it that back then), Loverboy, Motley Crue, etc, etc.

Metallica lost their edge long ago. Of course they've become an extremely rich pop phenomenon so from a business sense it was good for them if not for their original hard core fan base.

Diablo is a different breed from games which use the D&D ruleset. I tried sooo hard to get into Baldurs Gate 2 but to no avail.

I completely agree with you there, except I loved BG2 and have never been able to get into the Diablo games despite repeated attempts.

To each their own I say...

Sometimes I think Riley just blabbers on and on to hear his own voice and to argue semantics without really caring about the topic.

It really get's tiresome sometimes.

I don't know why their dead. As I just mentioned in another thread, both Freespace 2 and Nexus: The Jupiter Incident were a lot of fun for me.

Freespace 2 is an awesome game. I thought it was abandonware as I've even installed it on a Mac.

I think it holds up well on it's own especially with the enhanced graphics mods. It's mission based and arcadish but has a fun story and more depth that we expect these days.

If you like that, I'd also recomment Nexus: The Jupiter Incident.

If this is even something that you remotely think matters....get more RAM.

Do you have something against programmers developing efficient applications?

Shoddy code doesn't matter? Just throw more hardware at it?

I think that Rock Band and Guitar Hero have gotten a new generation of kids interested in actual songs, those that have musical instruments such as guitar, drums, bass, melody and singing.

That can't be a bad thing.

If you want to blame the ills of society on anything, blame Dungeons and Dragons.

It's evil I tell you. Eveeeel.

Like I've always said, make it easy for me to use a prepaid/recharchable card at any gas station.

Then let me download the shit for cheap.

Steam is getting there, but do it for movies, songs, albums, games, whatever.

When you make it instantly accessable and inexpensive, then you have a fucking business plan.

Or sue people.

agreed. thats how i like my deathmath's too be too.

You know, DeathMath might make a good gory edutainment title, sort of like Typing of the Dead.

As you round a corner you see a mathematical problem in large fonts followed by three creepy demons with multiple choice solutions on each of their chests.

Shooting the correct one advances you to a more difficult problem and explodes the monster into a gory shower of gibs while shooting the wrong answer makes you start the level over again.

If half the people on the internet could type or complete simple mathematics as well as they can play video games, this might be a better world.

News Comments > Maxis: Spore Doesn't Need Demo, Does Need DRM
62. Re: ... Aug 18, 2008, 04:45 CreamyBlood

I'll just wait until the install limit is patched out like it was for Bioshock before I buy it, assuming it gets good reviews. I have plenty of games to keep me busy until that time.

I agree. I'm usually months if not years behind when playing games. By the time I install them there's a version 3 no cd patch available, which I automatically install.

DRM is really irrelevant to me.

43. Re: No demo? Aug 16, 2008, 05:58 CreamyBlood

Unfortunately, the hype machine is all publishers need to sell a game. Why risk losing potential customers with a lackluster demo when you can just hype the crap out of your game?

Which, if you actually go to their website, you'll find nothing but merchandise and a few sentences describing their game.

I still don't know if this is a sim city, civ, or RTS.

I have, No. Fucking. Idea.

Edit:

To me, it looks like the beginings of an RPG, where you get to pick your stats, your haircut, tatoos, gender, bodysize, etc.

All done before, I'm just not seeing where it goes after that.

36. Re: No subject Aug 16, 2008, 03:49 CreamyBlood

What is the game though? If I go to spore.com and click 'What is Spore' I see links to what appear to be different products.

Clicking 'Spore' gets me to a page that vaguely tells me that I create, evolve and explore.

Is this an RTS?

I watched the video but it's still unclear at describing what the game is about. I didn't see any civilisations or battles or 'planets getting blasted to smithereens'.

No demos? Are there any more descriptive videos or words? Just an interview with Will?

Normally we get a a shitload of feature lists, gameplay videos and the like, but I'm quite clueless about what the actual game is all about in this.

44. Re: DRM Aug 15, 2008, 00:33 CreamyBlood

As for Spore, for a game with so much hype, we've really not seen ANYTHING new in what... a year or so? That's usually not a good sign.

Wow, that is actually a good point. This game was hyped to death for quite some time, and then a year before release you suddenly stop hearing so much about it. Hmmm...

Well I for one am not going to hate the game before it comes out, I actually hope it's worth playing, PC Gaming needs another hit.

I didn't try the demo and only really remember the demo/concept/walkthrough video from a year back or so. Plus all the hype and regular speculations here.

But from the press release, despite what Jerryk says, I really don't know what this game is about.

What it makes me think of is Slurpee Cups, Big Mac Meals, keychains, T-Shirts, toy dolls, movies, comics, etc,. I'm not getting the 'what the hell is this game about' part.

News Comments > id: Quake Live "Premium" Service and Wolfenstein Live Possible
21. Re: Quake Live Aug 14, 2008, 23:55 CreamyBlood

Q3 isn't as bad, but W:ET is just absolutely dieing for a platform like this.

My thoughts exactly, sponge. I recently reinstalled W:ET and really wanted to have some quick fun but after endless mod downloads and several disconnects I just gave up. Seems like every single server is running a different version of some crazy mod and, frankly, this just pisses me off.I want vanilla gameplay damnit!

W:ET is still my favourite online game, I prefer ETPro myself but just getting Vanilla running with the patches properly can be a pain sometimes. To have that playable anywhere and get your friends into it with no hassle would be nice.

But before we get ahead of ourselves, let's just do what id is doing and see how Q3 Live pans out. If it works, great maybe things will evolve. If not, nobody loses except a bit of time and money from id.

I think Carmack is just looking ahead and thinking out loud about possibilities. To me it seems like this could be a failure and his speculations will be a moot point or it might pan out and we'll see this grow into a simple and accesable way for people to easily experience some really fast, furious and fun games that we've all enjoyed in the past, for free.

They could make a few dollars on a side project while lots of people get a free game. Or they might lose a few bucks on a failed business experiment with a somewhat minimal investment.

We'll all know soon enough.

Damn Jerykk, you need to post all this research you're doing in a wiki or blog or something. Can't let all that rage-fueled research be buried in the Blues archive.

I don't think it's rage-fueled, it's just fact for the most part. It's disapointing to see gameplay devolve after so many years of playing games.

The year is 2008, you'd think that gameplay would be reaching new and exciting levels, but it's not for PC gamers, maybe for young console people that don't have a bar to compare it to, but for many of us it's going backwards and it's just frustrating.

However no one ever goes far enough back. DOOM killed adventure games. During the Sierra hay-day, adventure games were tops: well written stories, clever and fun puzzles, interesting characters. The DOOM comes along and nearly destroys point-and-click adventures.

Umm, I think the Point-and-click adventure genre has been doing pretty good for the last several years. We're getting the same core gameplay but with updated graphics, sound and voice overs. Unlike other genres.

I'm playing Perry Rhodan right now, but go look at the list of quality adventure games available right now.
