25. Re: PC Gamer: Dragon Age Oct 27, 2009, 00:39 Reactor

but i wish these supposed "writers" would take some time to make a case for that kind of thing instead of vomiting up something that would get a "D-" in elementary school english class

Yup.

What the heck are these developers doing to need a 24gig install? Are there thousands of 4k textures extracting to 64bit tiffs, or a Blueray movie included in all of that?

Crazy.

Guerrilla's pricing in Australia is a repeat of COD4. It $99 AUD, and so with 50% off it comes to the same price as I could buy it in store.

Dumb.

News Comments > First Borderlands DLC Announced
18. Re: First Borderlands DLC Announced Oct 16, 2009, 00:19 Reactor

This is an awesome precedent. Creating some DLC is a lot easier than making full game, so I'm going to release some DLC now and worry about a game later.

Thanks 2K Games! You've just saved me a lot of time.

Just Cause 1 wasn't that bad. I had a huge amount of fun with it, despite the rough edges.

Even if it works, it still feels like a bad move for gaming in general.

True, that's a valid point about business. That said, there's not much out there which can't be made to run well under Vista.

What a sucky article.

Discovered that none of the software (and even some hardware) you've been using for years is compatible?

I did this amazing thing called 'upgrade'. All of my old software kept working, and my computer stopped lagging like a lame old thing when it came to the new stuff. Amazing!!!1

That, and flying up to the clouds in a helicopter and dive-bombing out. That was just pure entertainment every time

I have an original, still in shrink wrap! Got it for free when I worked at EA 11 years ago! They were throwing that shit out!

Cool.

Hmm, that trailer was a lot worse than I thought it would be...

Looks like an awesome game for consoles, but that's about it.

Somehow I doubt most gamers give EA a second thought. Hardcore gamers (if it's okay to use that term) on the other hand...

39. Re: EA: Marketing = 66-75% of a Game's Budget Aug 28, 2009, 02:37 Reactor

The Indie developers don't seem to have any problems with it? Braid, World of Goo, Crayon Physics, The Maw, Audiosurf etc. Most of those guys spent approximately zero dollars on marketing, just relying on word of mouth. Worked out well for most of them.

Do you have any idea who the average indie dev is? You know, the guy who worked for a year on his game, only to have it rejected by Steam for no apparent reason? Those games you've listed are good ones, but their success is also down to a healthy helping of 'right place, right time'. There are tons of indie devs who'd love to put more money into advertising, because generally speaking, getting the word out (even if their game is great) is damn hard work without money.

This month's PC Gamer has an awesome interview with all the Indie devs.

All of them, huh? I guess you're talking about the guys above...

...in the style of Douglas Adams, Terry Pratchett and Matt Groening...

Looks cool, but... yeah, that's just a silly statement, in more ways than one.

I guess the artists and mission creators needed something to do while the programmers fixed things.

It's not that bad. When I first started playing it, I thought it was terribly buggy... but as I kept playing, eventually it got to the point where I had trouble noticing any.

It was an earlier version than the 360 one, so the engine was inferior, but it was a great game... mostly because it was so funny. I enjoyed it from beginning to end.
