News Comments > DCS Su-27 Trailer

Agree 10000%. I know back in the day they didn't have funds/manpower to do much but I thought it had all changed for them money wise (just a guess) but nothing else has changed. There still isn't even pressure clouds when you pull high G's..little things like that make it feel alive but its all so sterile.

Very, very sick of the map. DCS World could have been so much more than it is, if only the development pace wasn't sub-glacial. I really, really hope 2.0.0 makes a huge difference and isn't delayed yet again.

I did buy the F-86 when it was on sale for $15, though, because it's such a cool aircraft. Shame that it's unlikely there will ever be any enemies (aside from the AI Mig-15) to fight against that make sense. So, for $15 it was okay, but DCS is at a weird point where the basic engine is showing its age, and the most of the third party aircraft don't really fit in any one unified scenario. Cool as Mig-21's are, I don't want to fly them against F-15's. Cool as the Huey is, I don't want to fly anywhere near Shilkas or even modern manpads.

I'll probably keep trying the Flaming Cliffs aircraft as they're updated to the AFM (and the Su-27 certainly is quite an aircraft), but even with the updates, I already played the hell out of that sim years ago.

Basically, as far as the overal DCS World package is concerned, what we have right now is Lock On Modern Air Combat upgraded to about a 2007 level with a few modern quality but disjoint baubles thrown in.

They have gimbled and even defense turrets, although not as powerful as direct aim weapons

I tried the beta, looks like they put alot of thought into the game, but it just does not feel right having to aim your ship to shoot. Just seems a bit ridiculous in a space game.

I seem to remember that some weapons are "gimball'd" meaning you can aim them independtly to shoot, and some are fixed, meaning you have to move your whole ship to aim them, XWing style.

I was the same at the beginning and had my hopes on SC, now its 180 degrees. How ironic.

My hats off, and apologies, to David Braben (and team.)

I thought for sure he was just trying to get in on the free Kickstarter money, and had no intention of actually working on this game, same as he'd done the roughly twenty previous years.

But they got it done, and appear to have made a great sequel to Elite while they were at it. (Or should I just call it a remake?)

Great, great work, and I hope it becomes massively succesfull. Kudos.

Well I figured we'd be hearing from whistle blowers or something by now, was surprised the wingman was fired though. I expect we'll be hearing more about this disaster soon

Wow so what was the drama that caused them to get fired?

Thats just what happens when the cult leader feels threated.

I mean, he's now got his cult leader uniform and can mustter up 200-400 people into his trade shows to cheer at stuff like helmet animantions and fps sheild deployment.

He's like a God now, all hail Christ Roberts the savior*

On a semi-related note: A bunch of guys who were fired from CIG's Austin team have announced their new game at http://peezocker.com/ today.
The game's name is to be revealed at a later date but it's basically a Descent kind of game.

Here's a bullet point summary of that new game from their forums (sorry about the fucked up format but that's what copy&paste will do). Or if you want to watch the half hour stream yourself then go here: http://ustre.am/QLWp

  • He says the company is made up completely of ex-CIG employees so far, including Mike Morlan.

  • Jason Spangler, Elijah Mcneil and Chris Olivia are all part of the team. Wingman's Son is part of the team as well.

  • 300 Years into the future. Players take the role of Resource Agents, trying to get our hands on resources to make money.

  • Game-play and mechanics will be similar to the classic game Descent. 6 DOF. Fly around tight spaces and through tunnels.

  • 4-5 Ships to fly at launch. (Stealth Ships, repair/support ships, gun play, mining ships)

  • Several game modes. Create your own Corporation, play single player or multiplayer.

  • Burrow through the ground in order to find secrets and upgrade your ships.

  • Will be crowd-funded and community made. Looking for people to help make the game and be people like community managers. Not looking for money yet.

  • Still figuring out which engine to use. Looking at unreal 4, and leaning in that direction.

  • Looking to Ship the first version of the game withing ONE YEAR. Company started just two days ago. Already have a ship flying around on screen.

  • Have a hangar or garage, such as World of Tanks, to upgrade weapons and engines and other parts. More arcade like and less hardcore of a flight model.

  • Have a name in mind for company, but are looking for ideas from the community.

  • New show like Wingman's Hangar will be coming out for this game. Called something like Wingman's Basement.

  • Mod tools will be available as soon as game is released

  • Will sell map-packs after game is released.

  • Looking to make a companion App for the game as well, which would allow you to map out areas and find things.

  • Voxel-based mining system

  • Track-IR and Oculus rift will be supported

  • Looking at have 60 people or so playing at once in a game.

  • Regarding Star Citizen
Still a huge supporter, and will continue to Support Chris Roberts and his vision.

  • No truth to any of the rumors on the forums. He is happy to be his own boss again, and fully supports Chris's decision to do whatever he needs to do to make his vision happen.

  • Happy to have helped form CIG, and will continue to support Star Citizen in the future

  • Would not be surprised if on his new show to have segments about Star Citizen, as he still cares about its future.

Played with the new flight model today, I find it greatly improved.

Blues seems to be the place to rag on SC and praise ED. I have both, I play both all the time. ED is good, but it's not THAT good, guys. It still has a huge lack of variety in things to do. The cargo hauling missions get tired pretty quick and it's flight model isn't that great. Yaw and Pitch speeds are frustratingly slow. An opponent with better manoeuvrability will make a fool out of you. I know there's youtube vids of pro's showing you how it's done, but if you're not pro, then combat in ED can be a painful exercise. You end up screaming at your sidewinder to turn faster god dammit!

Personally I prefer the dogfighting in SC. I like the potential of fps stuff, if only to give the option of having some more stuff to do. Cause I am tired of hauling fish.

Uh maybe because Braden has actually delivered and all we see from Roberts are commercials and talk?

Braden is far from delivering. ED is impressive in it's procedurally generated scale, but not so much in all the rest. Having 400 billion stars to go to means squat when you can only do 5 or 6 things in some of them and 0 things in many others. And they're still sticking to a 2014 release date. I'd rather they take another year and add more content. Because the game as it loses it's zeal pretty quick.

On the forums someone asked "what can we do in this game" given that it has no storyline and the common answer was to use your imagination and make up your own story as you're delivering fish and claiming the odd bounty. So if you're good with that, then this is your game. But it's hardly the next coming of PC space sims.

The injected story stuff will be neat, if they can deliver on it. But we haven't seen a working implementation yet and with only 2 months to go it probably will be out on an expansion later next year.

I have hopes for ED, but I've found a lot of people are using it as a symbol for everything that SC isn't and that's completely untrue. Play ED for a couple hours and see if you still have the same amount of enthusiasm as you do now. It's just not close to done yet.
