I've seen a lot of ATI vs. Nvidia drivers stuff on here lately so I thought I would post something that happened to me recently.

About a month ago I spent a lot on a big PC upgrade finally making the jump to PCI Express. I bought a spiffy new ABIT Motherboard that officially supported ATI Crossfire(and unofficially supports Nvidias SLI), so I was fully prepared to switch over to the ATI 1950 Pro having heard a nothing but good things about it, even though I had been a loyal Nvidia customer for several years.

Well after trying to install 2 different 1950 pro's (same chipset, same maker) bought from Fry's and Best Buy respectively, and wasting 2 days of my life trying to figure out why the drivers werent working, I finally decided to put an Nvidia 7900 GS in just for shits and grins.

It worked the first time with absolutley no problem whatsoever. It couldn't have been easier.

Just a footnote, my tech buddy friend couldnt figure out what the problem was with the ATI card with that ABIT Motherboard so he gave up. It's the first he has failed to figure out a problem with one of my PC's in the last 10 years.

The moral of the story is that it will be a very long time before I give ATI another shot, and all this stuff I've read about how ATI's driver support is so much better than Nvidia's, well let's just say I'm rather dubious about that.

Just to be fair, I don't have Vista so I can't speak with any authority about Vista driver support, I just know that the only drivers I've ever dealt with from ATI sucked a wet fart right out of my asshole.

I remember way back in the good old days when I was a regular visitor of the SiN forums, and Charlie W. was a regular poster, and a very cool and stand up guy.

It was either right before or just after SiN was released that Charlie annouced that he was leaving Ritual to join 3D Realms and basically do his dream job of being a level designer for the sequel to his all time favorite game.

That was a about 9 years ago I think.

Whenever I would hear news about DNF being delayed, or how it was not going to be released "until it's done", I would always wonder what Charlie was thinking, and did he still consider working on DNF his dream job.

The whole situation to me is just very, very sad.

I still like PA although I'm not quite as enamored with them as I used to be. They used to play a lot of the games that I did, but now they do a lot more comics based on console stuff and since I'm still mostly a PC Gamer, I often don't get the references they make in their comics. The recent series of Armadeadon comics were quite amusing though and I really like some of the characters they have created. Chuck/Charles, The infamous Fruit Fucker, and my favorite, Div. That guy just brings it

I do have to agree with the earlier post that Tycho often tries to hard to sound smart when he is writing. I'm a college graduate with above average intelligence and an above average vocabulary, but he often annoys the piss out of me with his "look at how smart I am! I can use big words!" style of writing.

As far as the game goes, I'm going to take a wait and see attitude.

One last thing. Personal attacks about the physical appearance of the PA guys are really lame and have nothing to do with the quality of the comic.

Sounds interesting if it wasn't being made by Codemasters

I can't think of any other games that Codemasters was involved with off hand ... but Blade of Darkness kicked much ass and had great atmosphere

Not a particularly sociable sort myself most of the time , and that's my only real concern about the game .... I would like to be able to solo some and from what I've read that can be a tough way to go ... hopefully future add ons/expansions will be a little more solo friendly ... but hey ... did I mention that I REALLY like the fact that there is NO MOTHLY FEE!

I don't post all that much here, but I read the more popular threads and I've noticed that generally speaking this group can be pretty hard to please ..... the fact that I've seen very few ill words about Guild Wars in here tells me a lot .... I was already pretty much planning on getting this game anyway .... but the positive feedback about this free add on for the game has really sealed it for me now ... soon I will indeed by "joining you" ;"^)*

WoW also looks like I would have fun with it, but keeping and extra 180 bucks in my pocket per year of gameplay makes it a no brainer for me. No Monthly Fee makes Baby Jesus very happy indeed

I thought KB2 was much better than KB1 mainly because KB2 had an actual story, with some actual plot and character development ;^")* ....

KB2 also didn't constantly beat me over the head with a bunch of severed limbs and blood spurts.

Maybe it's me ... but after the seeing 15 billionth severed limb/blood spurt it kind of loses its entertainment value for me.

KB1 certainly had it's moments though ... the Lucy Liu "I collect your f%$#ing head" scene was a classic ;^")*

It's definately a shame ..... I really enjoyed SiN ... in fact I had more fun playing it(once it was patched) than I did HL ... I wouldn't necessarily say it was a better game ... but it was more MY type of game

Like #38 said earlier ... it had many innovations that have become standard in FPS's today ... and Spry(Behind Zee Bookcase) is still the most fun I have ever had playing Deathmatch

I certainly hope that someday Ritual gets "do-over" and that SiN2 is the commercial success that SiN wasn't.

NOLF2 also ran great for me ... Maybe I was running it in 16 bit instead of 32 .... the "JACK" demo only allows you to run it in 32 bit (I think) ... better go back and make sure ... btw I am also running 45.23 Nvidia drivers

Thanx for the suggestions .. I will try again ;^")*

I have an Athlon 2.5 and a GeForce 5 ..... but my framerates are subpar compared to Tron 2.0 .. which uses the same engine(and looks a hell of a lot better)

I have to bump the resolution down one notch and bump the detail down from high to medium to get comparable performance to Tron 2.0

Maybe it is just because there are more enemies on screen at once but that shouldn't make THAT much of a difference ... anyone else have sluggish performance on this demo?

And yes the mouse aiming does indeed feel wonky ... again with Tron 2.0 the controls are smooth as glass
