News Comments > Tribes: Ascend Closed Beta Patched
10. Re: Tribes: Ascend Closed Beta Patched Dec 16, 2011, 14:29 gtrogers

I am currently in the beta and really, really enjoying the game. Spinfusor feels great and yes there are issues, but HiRez is really listening to the community and taking feedback seriously.

While others will debate about classes/loadouts and the microtransactions, I'll just state that this game FEELS like Tribes and looks and plays great. It's still in beta, so sign up, be patient, and enjoy. It's free and most importantly, fun.

Each Assassin's Creed game has gotten better than the previous one. I can honestly say I had one of the best gaming experiences of the year with Assassin's Creed Brotherhood.

It's absolutely worth checking out, but as it's a direct continuation of Assassin's Creed 2, you may want to start there. I'd suggest starting at AC1 but the game can be a little shaky and was a little repetitive, but it laid the foundation of the series really well. Perhaps reading the story summary on Wikipedia or watching the cutscenes on YouTube would get you up to speed. AC2 was a big improvement over the first game.

On the age verification, it asked how old I was, so in my typical passive-aggressive fashion, I entered 100 (just as I always choose 1900 for my birthdate in the drop down menus).

It says I'm not old enough to view the site. LOL

I'm actually 32, but these age verification things are complete stupidity.

News Comments > Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands PC Plans
11. Re: Demo for 2008 version for PC? Dec 3, 2009, 15:07 gtrogers

Another thing I thought of: I really did not care for the way the combat was handled. You can't even pull your sword out and swing it around unless you're on a designated fighting-spot, which seems unnecessarily restrictive. The fights themselves, while gorgeously animated, felt almost "quick-time-event" and quickly got frustrating with all the blocking and deflecting.

Prince was a liiiiittle douchey, and the Princess was a liiiiittle wet-blanket. Occasionally they had some nice exchanges, though.

It may sound like I'm ragging on the game, but I'm not. I really do like it. I think I just want the next one to be even better.

I really enjoyed the last PoP (2008) for the PC. I have been playing it with a 360 gamepad and it's been nice.

But yes, I agree about the backtrack through the levels stuff. I feel like it's Prince of Pac-man where all you do is grab light seeds. Once you "heal the lands" it's a bit of a sigh when you think about having to backtrack all over. Oh well. It felt very much "on-rails" even though it was technically open. The power plates were way too similar, too.

I like the direction they took with the art, though. No more of this hardcore/emo stuff.

Overall a good game, though. Looking forward to seeing what's next.

Animals for Crackers,

If you're currently playing Chrono Trigger, do yourself a favor and play Chrono Cross if you haven't. Probably some of the finest music in videogame history. Also, the art direction is fantastic. Gorgeous (lo-res, of course) graphics.

If you haven't played Chrono Cross, you're doing yourself a disservice.

I also enjoyed the gambit system.

As a former/current Square lover, I think what I'm tired of is their art direction and character archetypes. It's the same feathery-haired girly-boys and shy, demure females for the main cast, all... the... time. I know it's popular in Japan and it used to work here in the USA before high-def and voice acting let us see and hear what the Japanese designers were thinking all along.

Games like the earlier FF's and Chrono Trigger/Cross worked because the art was relatively blocky and open to interpretation and we couldn't hear the obnoxious voice acting, leading us to picture the fine details and hear the voices in our own minds.

Bah, I guess I'm ranting. Not because of anger, but because I miss the golden days of Square RPG's. I could be way off base, but I'm tired of Japanese art direction.

That said, I'll still play the everloving bejesus out of FFXIII. The MMO FF14? I'm not going to touch that with a 10 foot pole.

Looks like I'm in the minority, but personally, I LOVED BloodRayne 1. Great action, mindless, and a hot hot HOT main character. I guess that's enough for me!

My buddy loved the game, also. 2 people eagerly looking forward to the sequel.
