I liked that probability article, despite his conclusion. The probability that evolution needs is beyond that of the probability that shuffeling will change the cards into volkswagens.
That probability indeed approaches and exceeds impossibility.
It seems that he's arguing that perhaps the cards would become lug nuts first, a set of tires, an engine, a chassis, etc.

Huh? EQ2 Problems? I left after the great market crash of December 9th. I'll try WoW after I let real life catch up a bit. EQ2 is intentionally designed to inhibit players from buying/selling items to and from one another. Screw that crap.

Don't watch it. Ever. All the world knows you won't be missing anything anway. Refuse to watch the movie unless they add in enough HELL SPAWNED DEMONS and GRATUITOUS GORE so the rating gets pushed to XXX for VOILENCE. THAT is Doom.
The only hope is that they'll decide not to name it "Doom" after all, because it's nothing close to it.
No marine. No demons. No mars. No Doom. No point.

[BIG RANT]
Did anyone actually read this article? I have a hard time understanding that people exist who are so fundamentally FUCKING RETARDED that they actually believe we are somehow running out of FUCKING WATER. W A T E R. Where do these people COME FROM!?!? Ya know, if they want to get the world population down to a half a billion or some BS like that, they can start with themselves and go KILL THEMSELVES RIGHT NOW. Now. Just go, slit your wrists. All you fucking retards who are scared of RUNNING OUT OF WATER, go kill yourselves. Please. Our planet is just fine. It's the PEOPLE WHO LIVE HERE WHO FUCK THINGS UP. ...food shortages my ASS. You hungry? GO KILL THAT GOD DAMN COW YOU'VE BEEN WORSHIPING AND EAT IT. Or how about those potato plants you've been praying too? Or the apple trees you've been hugging? Or how about you just get up off your ass and stop being a lazy bastard, and W O R K: PLANT A GARDEN. HELP A FARMER, GET PAID IN FOOD. Is it REALLY that hard to understand?! You don't WORK, you don't EAT.

Is anyone listening?

I got it a few days ago from Best Buy, and I have but one question:
How the HELL do I get past the Communication Transfer level?! I've been wandering around for 45 minutes, backtracking, clicking on every possible surface, shooting every possible surface, re-reading ALL PDA messages... WHAT. THE. HELL. I have no freaking clue where to go.

Very true. The other games were tremendous as far as gameplay. Although, that does scare me: ALL new people working on this game... NO connection with what made the game good before. NO experience listening to requests from players from the old games. It could swing either way I guess.

That is freakin SWEET. In a decade or two we'll have one two hour movie on a 35 terabyte disc!
I think I saw an UHDTV going on slickdeals.net for $999,999.95 (after $3,000,000.00 in MIR).

Hm... that new software with "no boundaries or rules" sounds like it's going to either be the Matrix's 'Construct' or an early '90s version of MS Paint.

It was OK. There were a few tricks in there that I hadn't seen before, but other than that the performance itself wasn't even something that I wouldn't be able to duplicate... I was expecting a similar performance to the Super Mario Brothers 3 run. Which was, quite frankly, done by a god. I could not close my mouth for the entire 11 minutes and 2 seconds. If I'm not mistaken, it was a japanese player? Someone verify this. So I guess I came in with unrealistic expectations. Overall enjoyable though. Nice soundtrack.

There is a $20 mail in rebate if you buy it by 11/04/03. And even if you pre-ordered it in 1994, the day you pick it up will count as your "purchase date". 50-20 = $30. Not bad at all.

Holy man. I've never seen the errors generated by that AXeS of Evil demo. It locked up my ATI Radeon 9800 Pro (256 version), forcing me into software rendering mode! Had to reboot to fix it. It does this every time I try to run the game.

Well, I wouldn't quite say "it's a big hit or miss on whether you can play or not." I would sometimes play for hours... then it would crash repeatedly at a certain point in the game (thank goodness for save/load).
Once, I was involved in an epic battle with two wear-wolves. I didn't have silver weapons, and I had to widdle them down. Very tedious. During the battle one of my area effect spells (I think it was blizzard or something) hit a nearby ... object/NPC. It was a mirror that talked to you. Unfourtunately, when it got hit, it was brought into the battle! Every time it's turn occured it could do nothing, but the game lagged for a good 90 seconds. And there was no way to damage it! I killed the wolves, but... I was trapped in a never ending battle - no way to run from battles. All I could do was walk my guys around in battle time, then end my turn. I would have had to load from way before the battle. That was when I stopped playing.

MY HEAD |

Oh LORDY. 24fps, 30fps, 60, 85, MY HEAD HURTS!!! WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON!?
The one thing I would like to comment on is the occasional declaration that the human eye can only percieve 24hz. Really now, we must look at the defenition of your word "perceive". Because you'd have to admit that every person reading these words can tell (or... "PERCEIVE") the difference between 60hz and 85hz. Now, we know this is a universal truth because we can all TEST it. RIGHT NOW. Easy. And as surely as we can TELL THE DIFFERENCE between 60hz and 85hz... Can we say the human eye PERCEIVES MORE than 24hz? Is that not an accurate defenition for our purposes? Or.... not? Am I comming in clear?
And just so someone doesn't post this after me:
per·ceive ( P ) Pronunciation Key (pr-sv) tr.v. per·ceived, per·ceiv·ing, per·ceives To become aware of directly through any of the senses, especially sight or hearing. To achieve understanding of; apprehend. See Synonyms at see1.
Yes, we surely can BECOME AWARE OF the DISCREPENCIES between 24hz, and 60hz, and 85hz. So, in closing all you 24hz believers are MOOORONS. Oh, and if all that 24hz crap was just a joke, then forget this post.

"For the first time ever in a game, the player has to build his track before racing on it."
WrongO. Excike Bike for the NES. And I'm sure there are others. But hey, it's all about marketing, right? Who would buy "Excike Bike 2"?? Then again...
(And to think I registered just for this post.)
