I lost my original account, but I've been visiting this website since the nineties, always a reliable source of interesting gaming related news.

Blue, you're a legend, I congratulate you on keeping this website running for this long and wish you a happy birthday.

My father also started smoking at an early age and did so for more than a decade, fortunately he decided to stop in his thirties once he became a doctor and has been exercising since. We just celebrated his 70th birthday two days ago.

My sincere condolences.

Oh c'mon, it's still considered a girly sport in the US and you know it, I'm allowed to make *that* indiscriminate generalization!

I do share your opinion about theatrics being an embarrassment to the game, specially with all these painfully slow slow motion cameras, but it's far from being the skill that makes one a top player, as you jokingly implied.

Referees are very much encouraged to penalize diving near or inside the penalty area, mostly because it affects the outcome of the game, and they do take note of frequent divers for repeat offenses.

Funny how quick americans go back to dismissing soccer as soon as the US is out of the World Cup Diving and faking injury can also get you penalized, it's all up to the referee.

Quote by Zephalephelah,
It just looks well done. But then they add all this 13yr old bullshit into the mix & ruin it.

(...)I don't need another game of stupid lasers and rockets with people running around at 70mph in oversized suits with a bunch of stupid announcer voices rubbing it in all the time.(...)

Sometimes I just want to grab these developers by the throat in one of their meetings & say, "Shut up! Shut up! SHUT THE FUCK UP!!!!!!!!(...)

ROTFLMAO

Oh I wish I could just take over Epic for one or two days just to fire people.

Quote by Beamer,
I agree entirely about the art direction of the UT series. The original UT was cheesy as hell, and took a long while to win me over,(...)

Very lame art direction. What can you expect, though, I think Cliffy B is behind it. Just look at him and ask yourself if he has a clue what "cool" is these days?

LOL. OMG if what you say is true, it's one more reason for me to dislike the guy.

I'm seriously considering putting up a website/blog where I can voice this opinion. I LOVE the Unreal *engine* and Epic made a lot of remarkable technical improvements since the first UT. Technically, I think Unreal 3 will probably be *amazing*, but I wish they would just bury the Unreal Tournament franchise already and come up with something different and undeniably cool instead.

The litmus test: a game you could actually make a mainstream blockbuster movie out of. At the very least, a game you wouldn't be embarrased of showing to your parents or people who aren't total nerds.

Even cheesy games can be cool, look at Mortal Kombat. It's not a favorite of mine, but Midway took a risk and it worked. The game is a satire, with all the overdone violence and comical warrior characters. On the other hand, the movie sucked, but at least it shows the game franchise was good enough to be considered for movie production.

I think my biggest disagreement with Unreal Tournament, and Unreal Tournament 2003 and 2004, is their artistic style.

Their notion of what is "cool" is so off-base. The things they come up with, from character design to weapons, the "wtf"-like map locations and their unimaginative background history, etc. It's hard to pinpoint it exactly, but it's just not "cool", it's like "pseudo-cool", what nerdy game developers think is cool, but really isn't, you know?

Just compare it to Id's games (and this is meant just as a comparison in *artistic* style), with the exception of Quake 1, Id is not very original, but their artists are so much more on the money with regards to cool than those guys at Epic.

Art can be a very personal thing, so I don't think there's any point debating this. UT fans will of course disagree. What i'd like to know is if anyone else tried really hard to like UT, but just couldn't get over this.

I feel that the UT universe has a seriously dumb vision of the future, or this other dimension or whatever the hell this intergalactic "Unreal Tournament" is supposed to happen.

My only hope is that those artists get fired before any work is done in Unreal 3.

Dan, to invert screen colors, just go to your Control Panel's Display Properties, Settings tab, click Advanced button, GeForce/TNT2 tab (the one with the NVIDIA logo), choose color correction from the side bar. Now you see the color curve on the graph? You can change it now by dragging the nodes. Just turn it upside down (it should go from top left to bottom right) and colors will go bonkers! enjoy!

This is awesome! I have full control over the color correction curve... thingy, so I turned it upside down and, guess what? It inverts screen colors!

What's the big deal? Uh... well, it's just that I've always wished I could invert colors on the screen when reading text on a bright white background. White text on a dark background, on the other hand, is a lot easier on the eyes IMHO (which is one more reason why I like bluesnews.com so much).

I haven't tested the drivers with games yet, but I don't care, I can invert colors now woohoo!
