Prez wrote on Jan 9, 2012, 11:57: Of course there is no valid reasoning behind the move, your suspicions are correct. The Guild Wars analogy is dead out of the gate but inexplicably people still use it to attempt to invalidate reasonable frustrations at a disastrously stupid move by an otherwise fantastic development studio. Why is it invalid Prez? Because you say so?
Guild Wars and Diablo are both games you can play solo, both games you can play online with friends or random people. Only argument you've given is that Diablo 1 and 2 had offline single player options, so that means Diablo 3 should too. It's been 12 years since Diablo 2 was released, things have changed. Just because it's predecessor did something doesnt automatically mean the sequel should too.

Oh wait easy answer, to try to force people to use their real money transaction rape house. Right, cus that's why...funny how I've probably put 20+ hours into the beta and have yet to even look at the Auction House. You don't have to use it buying or selling. Has fuck all to do with being a persistent online connection.
I get that people don't like forced online requirement even if playing solo. I even get why, primarily because many look at it as solely a form of DRM. With it being primarily a mutliplayer game, being able to take a solo toon into multiplayer and the fact that fixes and changes can be made on Battle.net end without a patch are two very good reasons why I'm ok with online play even if I play solo.

Ventura wrote on Jan 9, 2012, 05:44: You're joking, right? Take your computer offline and see how many of your Steam games you can play while it's in offline mode. I just fired up Torchlight, MW3 and Dungeon Defenders with my network cable pulled from the back. Wrong question to ask. Now ask, how often do I have to go offline to play games on Steam? Basically never, less than 1% of the time. Now ask me how many games I play online...most of them. Now, why would I care if Diablo 3 is online only? I don't, because it's probably never going to effect me beyond how any other online game being offline has in the past.
While that may be a problem for you, it's not for me. And I don't think it will be for Prez or many others complaining about a persistent connection that online effects single-player. Particularly when the reality is that Diablo 3 is primarily a multiplayer/coop game.
Guild Wars requires a persistent connection and is as much an MMO as Diablo3, yet people don't whine about it here and never did when the game was coming out.

This is most certainly NOT the Diablo 3 I am looking for. As much as I have been wanting Diablo 3 for years now, it's very unlikely I'll be playing this MMO wannabe. How is it at all different than you playing any games on Steam?

WoW and SC2 are the same way, which means 10's of millions of people are fully aware of how the Blizzard uses a p2p downloader that is defaulted to on. It's only sharing while you are downloading.

I got around to doing another playthrough of the D3 beta last night. There has been a couple patches since the first time. Gameplay was greatly improved. More monsters, less enviro clickys, my toon didnt feel over powered, I couldnt just charge into the middle of everything and overall I really enjoyed it compared to the first time playing.
Enemies coming out of walls and stuff need to be greater in number and animations faster. They are still just easy targets as it is now.
First playthrough was a Wizard, 2nd playthrough was a Demon Hunter. Will try another class today.

Man you guys can't take a joke. In all seriousness though, yeah Blizzard's graphics are a joke. We both know it wasnt a joke, particularly when you are still saying the same damn thing and still stating your opinion as a fact.
I've always liked Blizzards graphics style, particularly because their graphic styles hold up over time (Diablo 2 excluded). Diablo3 doesn't look bad, in-fact it looks really good. I do find the human models to be rather bland. If you are judging solely on screenshots, inaccurate representation, as the game looks great in motion. And I've actually played the beta, can you say the same?

I've backed up the "common" folder wih all the games & they never seems to work & I've used the in house back up tool & that has never worked for me either. Might just be me?LOL! Aside from the Backup tool they provide, all you have to do is backup the SteamApps folder. There are several games that will need to rerun the DirectX installs and the registry install process, but you should never have to redownload a game again. There may be the odd exception, such as Company of Heroes seems to come to mind as one of those games.

theyarecomingforyou wrote on Jan 5, 2012, 18:36: though it was such an abortion of a game that I can't imagine anybody that bought it at release is still playing it - the co-op had so many issues with lag and missing textures I gave up. I was going to reply to the same thing being said earlier, but many of us couldnt play the game when it first came out. And for many when the first patch and with each subsequent driver release it's been hit or miss whether people could play Rage or not at all.
I couldnt play for the first 2 weeks, while a friend with a newer AMD card could play. Then with the first patch or one of the driver releases he couldnt even launch the game anymore. Next release he could play again, then the release after he couldnt load the game again.
After I was able to play, we tried coop, but the game wouldnt let us connect to one another, yet we could connect in the car combat mode. We tried this a couple times with no success. Keeping in mind that we were able to connect right at launch, but I couldnt play because the graphics were so bugged out with messed up textures everywhere.

Red wrote on Jan 5, 2012, 14:49: But fortunately for my side of the argument, it is a fact that most gamers are online. You seem to get your facts from the same place that Cevat Yerli, Mr. "our game would have sold 20 times more if not for piracy".
The only fact I'm seeing demonstrated here is that you are a troll AND an idiot (your words, by the way), and you're one of those gamers that as long as they have no problem with the requirements, they don't care if the rest of us can go to hell.
Blizzard already spoke about finishing D3 SOLO, i.e., as a single player game. Your arguments suck. You want to pay them more for an inferior product, whatever, but don't take the rest of us for idiots.
Oh, and if you live in central new york and have an affordable, reliable net connection, congratulations. The rest of us don't. And the rest of us is the majority of the world. And that's a fact.
Because I say so.
And because it is.
Look it up. Actually, the FACTS are that in the US 60%+ have broadband access. 37% of those that do not said "not interested", 26% said "too expensive" and 18% said "no computer". These numbers are 2 years old, the numbers with broadband will have only increased in that time.
By simple deduction, the majority of gamers do have broadband internet. Quite frankly, if you dont have internet access, you probably don't play many games, particularly modern ones and your lack of purchase won't be missed. The world has moved on, industries with it. We don't care if you can't play game "X" 25% of the year due to lack of stable internet.

WoW did not have a solid launch. There were massive lag problems, frequent server crashes and rollbacks, insanely long queue times on servers, etc etc. That's just off the top of my head from trying to play at launch 5+ years ago.
Personally I wouldn't use WoW as the measuring stick for "bad" when compared to the majority of MMO's out there. I also agree that the list given was a fairly accurate (although incomplete) of failed/bad MMO's.

(It looks barely as good as Torchlight) Too bad Torchlight barely plays as good as Diablo 1 (so much for that promised multiplayer). There was no promised multiplayer for Torchlight. They said they were working on a Torchlight MMO, which was put on the backburner to make Torchlight 2, which does have multiplayer.
I'll buy Diablo 3 and enjoy it. It is lacking in some areas, but still fun (having played the beta). Unlike some folks here, I don't have a stick up my ass over online connectivity for games. Would be rather hypocritical of me (and anyone else that uses Steam) to draw a line in the sand with D3 over that issue. It wasn't a problem for me with SC2, it won't be for D3.
