Excuse me? i do believe you are the one who dosn't understand. I quote "Why should Valve have to ask them to take it down?" this implies that the person who posted it in the first place has enough moral sense and itellegence to not have posted it. Unfortuatly not many people involved in illegal ativity are privleged enough.
And second, i never said anything about valve demanding webmasters to take down the source, or even implied it, all i said was that many sites post illegal content without consequence. This is not debatable. Please do not not but words into my mouth.

in response to post #10

You honestly think they took there network down to a minimum just recently and then sent out that press release? Please, it has most likley been striped down before Gabe sent it out. He is not a moron.

>>Oh, and please include their phone numbers, social >>security numbers and a picture, if you could?

With an IP address you can obtain a phone number, and address plus other personal information of a person through contacting their ISP.

>>Isn't hosting someone's Intellectual Property without >>their permission illegal anyways? Why should Valve have >>to ask them to take it down?

Yes of course it is. However many many sites still post illegal material without consequence. Just look up warez on a search engine. Jesus man where the fuck have you been?

>>Oh yes, I'm sure that the perp is really frightened of >>all these 13 year old kids "hunting" him. Oohhh...

This is actually very smart of valve asking the community for help in obtaining an IP address of the culprit(s). I could not think of a better way of tracking it down. Hackers like to brag about their exploits, and 95% of the time, bragging gets them caught.

Get real people, anyone who thinks Gabe, or valve is a moron because of this attack proves you have very little technical understanding of how computers and networks work.
It is very unfortunate that valve had their source code stolen, these are the guys that took their profit from the original half-life, and didnt go out and buy fancy cars and such, they used THEIR OWN MONEY to fund half-life 2, and as a result this game is going to kick so much ass i can't wait to purchase it. Please Gabe and the half-life team, take your time to resolve this unfortunate issue and work on half-life 2 untill it is the gem you invisioned. I personally can't wait to play this game, but i will gladly wait as long as it takes for you guys to make it perfect.
