I guess I'll go rush out today and buy a new system so I'm ready for this game when it's released.

dancingpaul.com wasn't good enough? You did notice that one of the backgrounds was from Vice City, didn't you? I thought sure that would be enough to get it in.

Well, that explains why I can't get on BNet. I think.

I don't check player stats because they don't mean jack. There are quite a few players who start a new account whenever they hit 5 or 6 because they'd rather stomp on some new players then play challenging games against people as skilled as they are.

10. Re: To put it succinctly... Apr 26, 2004, 11:42 Baudkarma

Eh... kind of like an adventure game. The concept is that you're in a reality TV show, and to keep ratings up you have to keep pulling tricks on your mean, rotten neighbor.

Move the cursor around, find hot spots and click on them to pick up an item. Then click the object around the screen to set up a prank. Laugh upraurously as hilarity ensues. Find enough pranks and you move on to the next level.

Graphics are 2D sidescroller, effective enough for the concept. Everyone has a Wallace-and-Gromitish sort of look, if you know what I mean. Sound effects are some incredibly inane music, and occasional ooh's and ahh's that I guess are supposed to represent human speech.

In short, nothing that's gonna keep Valve or Id up at night. My kids might like it though... the humor seems aimed at their age level.

With a side of bunny-rabbit and panda stew.

Reminds me of a meal I had at a local brewpub a few years ago. Deer pate' and them rabbit filets.

I had Bambi and Thumper

Hey Blue! It's Saturday already!

I was going to check it out, but then I saw where you have to be over 18 years of age and a resident of the UK.

Maybe some of you Brits could check it out and let the rest of us know what it's like. That "Grown-up humor" thing has me all curious.

Well sure... iD has the resources to hire 10 liasons for the D3 community, and a 12 person web page team, and a few press agents, and assorted and sundry hangers-on... they don't do it because they're a small, focused company, and they want to stay that way. Oddly enough, their focus seems to be on making a very good game, rather the hyping a mediocre one.

As for losing touch with the community... well, they're still doing QuakeCon every year. That sucker can't be cheap.

ever play counterstrike? Half Life really introduced Mod making to the PC community.

Whoaaaaa... you might want to tap on the brakes there just a bit. While Half-Life had some really excellent mods (I never liked CS, but 500,000 fanboys can't be wrong), you're stretching things to say that HL introduced mod making to the PC community.

HL had good mod tools in part because it was based on Quake and Q2 code, and iD is the software company that first decided to put out games that were easily changed and modified by the gaming community.

All the informative comments from gaming industry professionals. All the though-provoking debate. It's truly a refuge from the mindless noise of the rest of the internet.

Ennyway.... maybe Valve is lieing about why HL2 is delayed, maybe not. It doesn't really matter, bottom line is the game is delayed. No big deal, I didn't exactly have a week of vacation time blocked out to play it or anything. If/when it comes out, I'll read some reviews, talk to some people I know, etc. If it looks good, I'll buy it. If not, I'll just kinda shrug and move on to the next game.

Just out of curiousity, why would Valve lie about the reason for the delay? If they needed an extra year for polishing, why not say so? If it went gold 2 months ago and they're just sitting on it to screw with the fanboys, why not say so? I put very little value in all these pissed-off fans saying "That's it, I'm fed up, I'm not going to buy the game.". If it rocks, and everyone is talking about how awesome it is, they'll buy it.

Kind of interesting. But if you get a chance, check out the link on that guys page to the movie someone made of the line of people waiting to get into the Apple store in Japan. That's just freaking insane... were they giving away free Macs or something?

12. Poodle Problems Jan 23, 2004, 12:04 Baudkarma

My only complaint about poodles is that as a breed, they just don't seem to have much personality. When I think of the dogs I've owned, or family and friends have owned, there's only one poodle that stands out as an individual. The rest were just kind of generic.

I got 7. And I have an issue about "Revenge of the Nerds" being included in the quiz.

Anyway, Blue... you don't want to move to Mars. If you think your lag time for Quake is bad now...

so now not only the entertainment mediums of TV and movies falling back to producing remakes of garbage 60's and 70's TV shows because of a fear of trying something new (or total lack of imagination....or both), now its time to start polluting gaming with this crap as well.

I knew it wasn't going to end with the Dukes of Hazzard

It's not the inspirations that's the problem. You could do a kick-ass, state-of-the-art, fully rendered kick-ass kick-ass game based on Gilligans Island. Basing the game on a known quantity gives gamers an easy way in, lets them feel like they'll be familiar with the world and its rules.

The problem is that when most gaming companies acquire rights to something, they just want to make the quickest profit possible off it. So the slap some half-ass game together, release it, and the rubes buy it up.

The problem is that most

...Thinking the link might feature ancillary information on the game,...

yeeaaah, right

That's not unheard of. Vice City has a few domains associated with it, and they're not even mentioned in the game. I know of www.degenatron.com and www.kentpaul.com. Also the phone numbers mentioned in the game are answered by recordings. If Ubi put an actual URL in their game and didn't register it, they're 10 times stupid.

9. What Gator should do Oct 30, 2003, 16:32 Baudkarma

Gator has a very bad reputation with most people.
Napster has a very good reputation with most people.

Gator should buy out Napster and just release their spyware suite under the "Napster" name. Most people would install it without giving it a second thought. Failing that, they should rename it "Napstar". Close enough that people won't notice.
