Dead Island + Mods = Awesome!

Just got official word (sent it to Blue), you can't be VAC banned for modding Dead Island! Allthumbsup

Here's the main thread....
http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2106453

There is even a mod that turns 3 NPCs (one in each of the first 3 hubs into Storage units. Not to mention the game looks with all the Bloom, Dust, Motion Blur, No Head Bob, No Desaturate, No Fog Before After, Adding Weather and even a Realism Mod (higher difficulty). It's just the first week, too.

It's hard to remain neutral when you're thrust into events outside of your control. Unless one of the paths is to become a hermit who lives alone in the forest, I don't see any way for the player to remain completely neutral.
I just can't think of a situation I've or anyone I know where you meet two sides and your only choice it to help one kill the other. Now even if there are people in the world who've experienced this or know someone who has, it must be a minority.

It's probably safer to talk about the Witcher 1, since some might not have played Witcher 2, yet. A good example is the false choice between the two women in chapter 3 or between the two factions in the bank. If I saw two people about to fight each other to the death, I wouldn't help one of them. Well, if it was good verses evil, evil might need to die.

Let's hope they keep the "unique world" and dump Geralt as a playable character. Secondly stop forcing us to take a side, when the whole uniqueness of this game is purported to be Witchers are neutral.

Where is the realism, the sense of tying us to this world when the way it written is to force us to kill one side or the other and how is that neutral?

Just glad I didn't buy Oblivion or Fallout 3 on Steam, since I'm using literately 100s of mods.

Is there a way to permanently disable VAC?

I would do it in a second, don't care about not playing in a VAC game or achievements. I'm new to Steam but it seems to force VAC on you as default, even though most people don't understand it or know about it (I sure didn't). Then without any warning you get permanently banned for editing a file for fov, wtf?

In regards to the link below about using a trainer, if we can choose No VAC and playing a COOP game, how the hell can you cheat in a COOP game. IF you use a trainer to give yourself extra cash, then buy weapons to give to all the players, who the hell is getting cheated?

The literal definition of cheating is 'to take' or 'to harm' or 'deprive' someone, else.

Then they need a way for players to turn off Achievements. If someone buys the game they should be able to play single player however the hell they want. And if a group of people get together who don't care about achievements and are playing a non vac game, who cares what the hell they use for mods.

What we DON'T need is more anal retentive people tell us how we should play our games. Middlefinger

Damn the game looks and plays great with these edits. W00t

Too bad D3 is a lost cause with AOdrm. It will be the first game Leon made I won't be playing. Bigcry

Won't hold my breath if/until there is a crack, but then could buy the game when the price drops, never activate it just use nodvd.

If you don't install the game through Steam then it won't touch it. It only updates games you bought through steam.
Thanks Effixi!

I want to start a Steam account to buy/play Dead Island and could really use some help. I'm concerned Valve's Steam software will have an effect on my nonSteam/nonValve games.

Does Steam/Valve scan and force update/patch all my games even if they are NOT on or purchased on Steam? I've heard it's possible to opt out of sharing data, but not forced updates. E.g. I don't want them monitoring and updating my Fallout 3 (retail version not Steam) install to breaking my mods, since it has nothing to do with Steam.

Thanks for any help.

Damn this story/dlc doesn't fit in anyway I can see, especially with the way Adam acted when he woke.

I got the impression Elisa wasn't intended/created for the Illuminati but they had essentially kidnapped/hijacked/hacked her.

Are there really no guns or ammo near the beginning? I can understand low ammo supplies but no guns sort of sucks.

This is why developers, regardless of how good they are, should not be in charge of QA. They won't. They think like scientists, so they'll say "we'll get much more useful data from asking thousands of customers for their crash reports anyway."
No idea where your getting this info. Developers don't release or Q&A for the publishers. This has publisher written all over it, they force out titles early and do their own Q&A fix list. I.e if the developer wants to get paid they fix what the publisher is paying to get fixed.

Think I'm done with the game until they fix it a bit more. Seems like the longer you play, to slower the game runs.

Also not a fan of weapon degradation and checkpoint saves.
Damn, hope there is a mod/hack to make normal saves and slower degradation.

I heard there is respawning also. Hate when developers do this without some plausible explanation. Obviously this game couldn't explain it. Unless of course there are new ships docking every time you leave a zone, with a new shipment. Sigh

Ooc does Steam monitor all your games are just the ones you buy from Steam and are located in the Steam folder? Asking since I have many games installed not from Steam, using no-cd/dvds, which I don't want touched/patched/monitored.

I've heard of an opt out of sharing data, but don't have experience with Steam yet.

Thanks.
