So much for a different game experience.

Different game experience is great.

Stupid ideas, however, remain stupid.

A defamation class action is a different story, as long as the original documentation can be found as used as evidence

Proving defamation, particularly as a class action suit, is nigh impossible. It'd probably be easier to prove libel/slander -- and even then good luck finding a lawyer that would take the case without paying them upfront.

But yes, the BBB will do all of nothing here. I can't imagine that NIMF is even a member -- what reason would they have to be? They're a lobbying/media organization, not a business.

Wow, think I'm gonna throw up now...

Over which one?

Showing my geekiness, I knew/heard of at least 6 of those.

emember that IT admin guy that was going to report a Linux distro called Cent OS for attacking his city's website?

You mean Tuttle, OK? Yes, I remember it. I talk with the CentOS developer in question on a nearly daily basis. It's a running joke at this point amongst the devs.

Remember wikipedia had rather negative posts about him from the CentOS and Linux fanbase in retilation, they where taken down quick quickly.

Yes, because Wikipedia has a policy on being unbiased, and those attacks are in specific violation of that policy.

Wikipedia do not censor, that right there is a blandant lie.

No, that's complete and utter cluelessness on your part. Not that this is a new thing.

Next, go learn something about DirectX and OpenGL and figure out why most devs prefer DX. MS's API may be fucked up, but it's still a helluva lot easier than OpenGL and OGL's vendor specific extensions.

Not that I expect you to. You've repeatedly proven that your issue isn't ignorance, but rather stupidity.

A lot of people who've read it don't seem to pick up on that

Sadly, I suspect the TECO interpreter bit was lost on virtually everyone...

That wasn't an era a lot of Americans remember fondly and are glad we've moved on from

Actually, I'd say "that's not an era a lot of Americans remember" and leave it at that. Most history classes never make it that far.

Moving right along from one extreme to the other.

Wee! It's a roller coaster ride!

We fill two recycling bins (no idea what capacity they are), plus various cardboard, plus at least one 45 gallon trash can every week (usually 1 1/2). And we're pretty good about recycling -- like yours, it's sorted after pickup.

There is some recyclable stuff that they don't take via curbside though. If it's large, I'll set it aside and take it to the recycling center (which is only a couple miles away) every few months.

Minneapolis REQUIRES us to put them in plastic bags....doesn't make any sense

That's insane... they won't compost if they're in plastic.

We have separate yard trash and garbage/recycling pickup here. I still haven't done a leaf blowing yet (although I did rake one side of the lawn at one point, not that you can tell anymore), but I have a brand new Toro leaf blower/vacuum just waiting for me this weekend.

I can't just blow them into my backyard anymore either -- the new house has a creek running behind it, and I'm not about to dam it or attempt to get leaves on the other side. So it's back to paper bags.

50 Marbles in a blender!

Which is ultimately from http://www.willitblend.com -- Heather was telling me about it last night.

Went to lunch w/ some of my coworkers yesterday and one said he's thinking about taking off next Thu/Fri to camp out for one at a local Best Buy; but he won't if there's already a line forming on Wed.

And while I think that's utterly insane, especially since he later told me he doesn't care about any of the launch titles, at least it's only "moderately" insane.

And, heck, he's in his early 30s, single (which surprises me), and no kids. Shrug.

Drainage problems are one of the biggest problems for older homes.

Yeah, and as noted, can be very expensive to fix.

Not fixing them can be even more expensive though... fixing foundation cracks is not cheap.

Dude, time to cull.

We rented a 5x15x10 storage unit, and I stuffed it nearly full; it was only about 1/4-1/3 of our stuff, but we were moving a family of four from a house

Good luck with the move man. It is always such a complete pain in the ass, no matter how much (or little) stuff you have.

Polls stay open until 9:00 in NY.

Should be that way everywhere in my opinion.

Polls should be more than one day, and particularly not on a weekday.

Early voting, absentee ballots, etc. help, but too often they're either inconvenient (not all polling stations are open for early voting) or they don't get counted in the normal tally unless it's a close election. Or both.

No hacking the state constitution to give special deals for a casino.

The jackbooted thugs will be by later to discuss your "decision" with you.

But at least they'll be Italian jackboots.

That old LJ IIP comes up with an "52 Error" displaying on its LCD

If it really is that, I recommend recycling it next time you get an opportunity to do so for free. Fixing it is not worth the money.

I had a HP IIIP (3, not 2) that had that error. Fixing it (several years ago) cost >$100. A year or so later it died the same way. And this was with exceptionally light use.

Also, unless it's been upgraded with additional memory you won't be able to print out much in the way of graphics on it, and the memory they used is proprietary so you may not be able to get it anymore (or it'll cost absurd amounts to get).

But hey, if you can get it working for free -- that's great!

We're in the midst of a Fry's Grand Opening here, and we picked up a refurb Samsung multi-function laser for $69 after rebate. I still have to hook it up; hopefully it'll work (fully functional) through the Hawking print server I have.

no one needs to know when I come and go from my residence.

Yeah, because they can't just watch for your car to leave the alley (or driveway, or whatever)...

One day I hope to be able to get Heather's car in our garage. I dunno that mine will make it in until I build a storage shed. One of the things I really dislike about the new house (but I knew it going in).

2. Re: IE7 Released As High-Priority Updat Nov 3, 2006, 10:30 Zathrus

Don't get too excited.

My company automagically installed an "IE7 Blocker" to prevent auto-update from downloading and installing IE7 until it's been blessed to work with the corporate intranet (and this is an intranet that works with Firefox and Mozilla). I expect that to take a few months.

I suspect many other companies are in the same boat.

I think Zath had this problem a while back and I was wondering if there was a way around it short of sliding it off the edge of my screen and ignoring it.

My problem was weirder and far more evil.

I presume you've rebooted?

If so, then there's several options, in order of ease:
- delete it in Safe Mode
- delete it with Eraser or Sysinternal's Movefile

And the damnit, let me do it methods:
- Boot with a BartPE disk and nuke it
- Boot with Knoppix, mount the disk, nuke it
- Boot with Trinity, mount the disk, nuke it (this is ultimately what I had to do; I told you it was evil).

Unless you're really determined, I wouldn't go past the free utils.

Not that Comcast is really that much better...

They're freaking geniuses compared to Charter though.

It may be, to use a poor turn of a phrase, like winning the special olympics, but I'd really rather have a company that is merely incompetent rather than outright malevolent.

And, FWIW, Comcast claims that they're slowly taking over all of the Charter territory in my area. No time frame. And I wasn't exactly inspired by the fact that they rep couldn't find my street (which is 10 years old). But I'll still switch the very first day it's available.

Oh, and Charter is charging for HD on a per box basis, not a per user one. Which is insane. It's like saying that you have to pay for HBO on every TV you connect rather than paying once to get it at all.
