While I do agree that the other games need some more loving, are you seriously complaining that the game you bought forever ago is still being updated and new free content is still being made almost four years later?

Yes. I don't care about this game anymore, having all these content updates is just slowing down steam when I start it. I've left it installed trying to ignore it but I think I'll be happier with it off my system. If every game in steam did the same thing it would be a nightmare starting steam everyday. There might be an auto-update option I can turn off but I'd rather just remove this game from my system.

Hmmm, Onlive has a free trial, might have to give that a shot. So much nicer to try games on that rather than downloading and installing demo's. Mouse lag is noticeable but with a gamepad it's ok.

Meh, why can't they do this with L4D & L4D2. I'd be on board with all these content updates to either of those games. I'm going to go home and uninstall TF2, I'm sick of it sitting there downloading huge new patches every week. I have no interest in playing it anymore. Why not update portal 2? How about some new puzzles?

And why do people keep mentioning the hats...who fucking cares about the stupid hats?

as stated, the next-gen nintendo system will have a hard time competing with last-gen consoles!

I don't see why, as long as Nintendo can get a version of 3rd party games coming to their platform like 360/PS3 I think they'll do fine. The DS software is wildly popular for some reason, the Wii U allows them to combine that library of games with a current gen console which means someone like me would consider buying them.

Nintendo is playing it safe, unless ps3 or 360 moves to the next console Nintendo will be perfectly placed to steal their customers. How much can it cost for someone like Nintendo to make a 360/PS3 equivalent system? If they shipped the console at $250 they will tank chunks out of the ps3 and 360 audience for many games. The main concern will be online support, if they can't put together a competitive online system similar to psn / 360 then I think they'll miss a major opportunity.

Tell me that controller wouldn't be awesome in CoD when you fire a UAV missle? Instead of that laptop screen coming up you look down and guide your missile in on that screen. Or in BF3 when you guide a laser guided bomb down to your target. (they're bringing that back...right?)

I tried this via onlive, I want to give the other demos a shot because its hard to believe how had it was. Maybe onlive and this don't mesh well...

Just finished LA Noire tonight. Excellent game but

*secret*
the game felt rushed toward the end. Once I was on the arson desk I felt like the game lost some of it's polish. Up to that point the game was top notch but the gameplay felt clunky after you are kicked off Vice. And the ending sucks...maybe there are different endings...I doubt it though, really bad way to finish such an outstanding game. I wish the game ended on the vice desk, everything was great up to that point.

Can you imagine the average console gamer dealing with multiple configurations?

...yes? Consoles have multiple configs right now. Different hdd sizes, some had no hdd's, the ps3's quickly dropped ps2 backwards compatability, I think the ps3 has 5 different models at this point?

MS/Sony would be very smart to sell a memory module, if possible, that doubles the systems memory. If they can make that work for $50 or less I think people would jump on it but ideally they'd be planning this for next christmas, maybe go to Activision with this and tell them to start developing CoD with 1 GB of mem and plan on shipping the memory module a month or so before that game.

Elite access now includes an exclusive video feed of the trial.

I doubt this will go to trial, someone will eventually offer a settlement and we'll never know who got what.

17. Re: Battlefield 3 PS3 Footage Jun 17, 2011, 15:33 Tumbler

Gameplay looks fine, not a big step down from pc or anything. I think the framerates and such we've seen on pc footage have been better, seemed to get blurry in this demo more often than on the pc. Think this might have been a framerate issue.

Old gameplay footage at this point, they were playing that scene walking out of the garage that starts with a soldier getting shot, then a firefight in a parking lot, RPG to a car knocks you down, etc.

Was hoping to see something more interesting like MP combat that shows large scale maps.

Okay, I'm super curious to see what this looks like on the consoles. PVR set.

Ditto, I am not expecting them to show much but who knows, maybe 10 min of mp gameplay with a direct screen feed! ...not likely.

I want to encourage pr guys at gaming websites to ignore these kind of threats. Covering a game like duke and giving it a good review to keep your bridges in tact is a good way to go out of business. 2k can learn the hard way what happens when you try and dupe people into a shit purchase. Fans are going to remember this when the next gearbox / 2k game comes around. Buyer beware.

You can play a free trial of duke via onlive at the moment. 30 min limit. I don't recommend using a mouse and keyboard, input lag is pretty bad, load times are pretty awful too, I was expecting it to load faster as its in the cloud and all.

This is the third pack, right? So this is $60 + $15 + $15 + $15, right? I am curious to play the game with all these maps....but paying 45 bucks.....pshhh Hahaha. Infamous is a far better deal assuming you get some credits for buying it. Incredible game all around. I finished my first play through and I can't wait to go evil and do it all over.

As someone said, I think there is a lot more to this than we currently know. It ties in too nicely with the launch of Origins, and the "only on Origins" label. Along with Steam already allowing GFWL integration/sales...albeit removed from Steam. ie: you dont buy from within the game, you have to goto the GFWL store, so there is some separation there.

I think EA just doesn't want to pay anyone to sell content from inside their game. That is why they setup all that crytek account nonsense to play the game online. Once someone has the game crytek doesn't need steam to sell this content and since that new content pack just dropped I'm guessing they pushed a patch out or updated something that makes it possible to purchase it from inside crysis 2. Seems like it was a deliberate move by EA. I'm curious what happens to the games sold on steam up to this point. No more updates? Does valve still download the game on demand? Will it autopatch from EA at that point? Or are the steam buyers stuck with a game that won't update so it can work with the new content?

This could get messy. EA would be wise to offer origin access to this game (as if they purchased it through them) with a valid steam code. (Assuming the game is going to have update issues on steam going forward.)

Sell content from within itself rule is weird because games that used gfwl but were sold on steam such as dow2, they allowed content to be sold from within game yet they were never pulled from steam.

What content was sold? Everything they added to the game was tied to steam, I believe? GFWL was just a matchmaking service. Even now the additional content for this game is all on steam. Could you buy the core game on GFWL? I think it'd still be a steam game under that.

which seems a bit hypocritical now).

I guess...but there isn't a good way to allow this without imposing these rules. What is steam supposed to do with a bunch of installs change because they've got new maps and new files for all this new stuff? I doubt the other download service stuff is an issue for steam, they just need to have all copies of the game on steam to be something they can verify and update. Crytek could probably sell the stuff on steam seperately from the stuff on origin but then you'd be keeping track of 2 seperate installs of the game?

That's exactly why you don't introduce another area of potential balance issues. If they have enough trouble balancing MP as it is you don't introduce a complex customization system that needs its own babysitting. I'm all for neat things in games man but you never stop to think of how they would be implemented. That's without getting into the fact that I really don't want THQ selling items that would be used in MP and you know that's exactly what would happen.

A messed up game is a messed up game. I'd rather have tons of customization options if I'm going to be playing an unbalanced game instead of having very rigid controls and still be playing an unbalanced game. You're damned if you do and damned if you don't. I can imagine a DoW3 with lots of paid content that didn't totally break the game. Everything in Tabletop 40k costs money, it's not like you buy the base game and you get everything, most players specialize in one army and spends hundreds of dollars buying the little pieces of that one army. If they were to offer something like the different war gear packs that we saw with DoW2 Retribution but didn't lock them behind certain retailers, you just chose which army you wanted to specialize in, I could see it working. The key would be delivering enough content to make it more than a gimmick. That retribution thing was stupid. But if that included multiple leaders for the army, plus dozens of wargear choices for each of those leaders so that each army became a massive amount of content and players picked the direction they wanted to go in it could be a lot of fun. Maybe make all the content unlock able to everyone but the army you pick you get everything from the start.

That would be very MMO like. Most people don't have access to all the content in the game, they spend weeks or months unlocking one section of the game, ie one class as they level him up to 80 or whatever. DoW2 didn't something like this with those cosmetic upgrades but I thought the game didn't make that process enjoyable. After the 50th game or so everything felt routine. You didn't have to adapt to new strategies...you'd already seen everything.

If they're just going to ship the same crap with a new coat of paint then don't bother. Either innovate and aim for the stars or go home.

Every patch would be a huge buff or nerf as players discovered the flavor of the month. They would have to basically redo the entire MP structure for DoW3.

...this is what the MP experience of DoW2 was. Every patch screwed something up, each race was horribly overpowered at one point in the cycle. If they aren't planning on tossing out everything DoW2 when it comes to MP then I'm already disappointed in DoW3. They need to go back to the drawing board. Who wants to go play more DoW2 at this point?
