Yes it will. You just made my day. I'll upgrade my 7950GX2, and then the motherboard and CPU a little bit after Intel and AMD get their new CPUs out the door. Not that my Core 2 Duo E6600 is aging.....but still.
Of course, I'll probably just OC my CPU and wait another half a year or so. I still have to sink $200 into Vista just to get DX10.

It makes it worse, because now the engie will just camp with his gun. Before, he could throw up a gun and then run around helping, and if he died his dispenser and sg would keep his teammates alive. Not really. Engineers are the second highest target in sudden death, right behind the medic. I typically play as a soldier, and one of my favorite things to do is unload 4 rockets at the camping engineer from outside the range of the SG. Thanks to the engineer bashing the hell out of his SG is won't go down, but he will--and his SG along with him.

From what I've seen all the beta drivers really do is add SLI profiles (and the required compatibility flags) for a given game. Helpful if you run SLI or a GX2, otherwise they aren't really needed.

Wow, there's some great fixes in the Steam updates. The server browser refresh now supposedly works on the first refresh.
Other highlights:
TF2
Improved autobalance calculation code when determining who to switch Good. I've been switched several times when I was in the top two.
Engineer buildings now explode when the Engineer dies during sudden death This should really help out SD. Unfortunately it's going to make engineers even more likely to camp themselves next to the dispenser/sentry combo.
I know Portal updated too, but I don't see any update notes for it.

The bonus maps are a little brutal. Hope they release more maps or at least update the SDK so others can. It's the challenges that are brutal. I've only accomplished a few, and then I've barely managed to get bronze. I'm convinced gold isn't even possible for some of them. As for more maps, I've seen alpha release of some Portal maps; I'm sure a good mapping community will spring up around Portal. My greatest wish is for the old Radium HL map review site to be resurrected as a Portal map review site.
I'm also going to have to agree with I <3 [<3]. Valve should make that into a bumper sticker.

On a somewhat related note, does anyone else in here regularly use Ubuntu as a Linux distro.? I updated to the latest edition last night and have all sorts of problems with my external monitor now. Before, it was just cloning desktops between the lappy and the monitor, now it won't let me set the monitor as the default. I've restored the entire computer and putting on Kubuntu and seeing if KDE works a little better this time around (had zero problems with it when I used it to introduce myself to Linux with it). I ask, no, I beg you, do not use Kubuntu. It is the single worst example of a KDE based distro that I have ever used.
With the limited info I'd guess that the update to Gutsy also put you into contact with Compiz Fusion for the first time, though I don't know if it's enabled by default. That could be the problem; I'd also check on the display driver that's in use.
Huh, I just went poking around and noticed that there's a Clone Desktop module in Compiz Fusion, which might be just what you need. I'm running Compiz Fusion 0.6.2 with plugins-main and plugins-extra.

That takes post of the week. Maybe post of the month. You know what, I'll just give it to ya since I don't have any other contenders and I don't keep track.

Anyway, off to try out some TF2. Anyone playing on any server with any regularity? I don't know if you have or not, but join the Blue's News community group in Steam. Everyone there will be added to a section of your friends list, and there's always a few of us playing.

That's what I'm hoping. ATI is supposed to be having their launch at around the same time, and with the 2900XT doing very well performance wise I've got hopes for ATI this time around.
All this coupled with the pending release of AMD's Phenom; I'm glad this is all happening when I'm getting ready for an upgrade. However, Phenom is going to have to beat the current Core 2 architecture (Conroe, etc) by >10% to be competetive with Intel upcoming die-shrink.

I've literally been avoiding this game, not because I don't like it, but because I like it too much. I started it up for a bit last week just to play around....and lost 4 hours.
I've been thinking about starting another game ever since (it was a small map). *sigh* I suppose I'll just suck it up and start a game on a bigger map.

Yeah, I found him this same way. I didn't realize until later that it was an achievement. Should be fun to go back and do.

Now the witcher is getting me more and more excited. However, this being a game from an eastern european devleloper, I'm concerned about bugs and a lack of polish (no pun-intended, they are a polish developer). Eastern european games are consistently unpolished and buggy. Also if the reviews say the witcher is good, then I want the European version. Not the censored U.S. version. Agreed on all points. If you're looking for the uncensored version hit gogamer.com, they're already offering a UK-import preorder.
I think I'll grab that trailer now.

I've finished Ep2 and the initial Portal game, both are freakin' great. I've finished all of the advanced Portal levels except for 18, that one is driving me nuts. st: The whole ceiling made of metal is driving me crazy, I can't get to the third platform. After that it's on to the challenges.
And then there's TF2. I'm not sure enough good things have been said about it yet. Oddly enough, the only map that I dislike is 2fort. I much prefer the flow of capture point maps, be they attack/defend or free-for-all captures (Well does NOT get enough love, IMO). The Soldier has also dethroned the Demoman as my favorite class; the ability to rocket jump is great. My favorite thing to do is rocket jump over a barrier to literally get the drop on a medic that's hiding while his Heavy is mowing people down.

stupid question but is there a trick to changing your name in tf2? i cant get the damn thing to change my name. Enable the console. In it:
name yourname
You can also change it through Steam, in the options. I'd imagine they'll get that touched up in time for the release on the 10th.

Valve does not set the release date (or territorial release dates), that is done by the publisher--in this case, Activision. Valve has stated this many times now, and yet still people bitch about Steam. Notice how the Orange Box gets a worldwide unlock just after midnight PST on the 10th? (IIRC) That's because Valve is in control of that one.

Gah, the update messed with my sound again. Seems like every other update the background noises drown out everything else. Time to update my drivers (again) and see if it helps.
Edit: Yup, going to the 1.78 Realtek driver did the trick. --- Xfire/Steam: GreySpire (alias Bucky) http://www.pclinuxos.com This comment was edited on Oct 6, 15:15. |

Getting more and more excited for Sins of a Solar Empire though. It's been on my must-buy list since I first heard about it. It's gonna be great, in no small part because they've been doing beta testing since this summer.
